Clean & Cozy Beach Cottage Close to the Beach
About this cottage rental
The Wave Den is a quaint 4-bedroom recently renovated cottage tucked away in a private cul-de-sac surrounded by live oaks in the charming Sound and Sea Village of Duck. With only a 5-minute walk (1,000 ft) to one of the best (and most dog friendly) beaches in the Outer Banks, you will be sure to make lots of great memories. There is ample outdoor space to savor the warm sunlight and cool ocean breezes during the spring, summer and fall months. And, if it gets too warm there is a shady area under the house for the kids to play and the family to gather around the grill to dine al fresco. The screened-in porch is the perfect place to quietly enjoy a cup of coffee every morning or sip a glass of wine in the evening. The Sound (beautiful sunsets) is only a short walk away. The nearby bike/walking path are great for exercising, walking the dog, or biking into the town of Duck. It’s the ideal ocean-side retreat to refresh and unwind.

It was our second year at the house. It is cozy and as described. Nice, private neighborhood and beach.
It could use new appliances and a more thorough cleaning but we had a great stay overall.
We will be back next year!

We loved this cute cottage ! Plenty of space, clean, nice size bedrooms, big decks and we loved the screened in deck. Great space to enjoy your morning coffee and playing games in the evenings. And a GREAT location, a short walk to the beach and the sound. We absolutely loved it. We definitely will be back !

Our family has never been to OBX. I was toying around with the idea when the Wave Den happen to pop up across my screen from VRBO. It was such a cute little place online, though the pictures do not do it justice at all! We were at home from the moment we walked in. It’s much bigger than you think, especially underneath the house. There’s a spot for everything! Coffee is perfect on the front porch in the early am - with a gorgeous breeze. We will truly miss our pineapple whiskey nightcaps on the back deck with music. The side and front decks are amazing for the night sky after coming off the beautiful beach - especially when you turn off all the lights for the full effect! We cooked at home many nights (but ate out a lot too at all the fabulous nearby places in Duck, Corolla, Kitty Hawk) and the Wave Den has everything you need to make it all perfect - just like home. Keurig, large coffee pot, dishwasher, toaster oven, pots/pans, utensils, grilling tools, washer, dryer, nice sized bathrooms. The bookcases in the living room give it an extra comfy feel, too. The little notes, tips and recommendations on the fridge from the owners were greatly appreciated. Thank you for being so inviting and sharing the Wave Den with others. Our family will never forget this trip and will be back “for shore”!

We all enjoyed this cozy cottage, especially the screened porch. Room enough for all. The beach was close enough and the beach cart made taking the gear easy. Taylor, the manager was quick to help with questions we had. Nice place.

For our needs a perfect fit, nice neighborhood, easy beach access, pup friendly. Kiddos played basketball, volleyball, rode the rented bikes, much beach time. The home itself very nice without being over the top. The screen porch was perfect for outdoor meals, book reading, kids putting Lego 's together. The inside living area is not huge square footage but very user friendly. Hope to return.

The setting for this cozy cottage is wonderful. Besides being a short walk to the beach access it feels so private because it sits at the end of a short road and is surrounded by evergreens. This is an old-fashioned beach community, the kind that is often lost to mega houses. The permanant residents took time to talk with us as we strolled the main road to and from the beach. Some have lived there most of their lives while others have chosen to retire to this special community.
The cottage itself is a raised ranch so it has only one set of stairs for those who struggle with 3 and 4 level homes. I gave it only 3 stars for cleanliness because it looked as if the cleaners did only a partial job before leaving. After contacting Taylor, we found out that there was an unavoidable problem with the cleaning crew. She wanted to get someone back out there but we felt that we had already taken care of the most pressing problems ourselves. Still we appreciated her willingness to make things right.
Finally I gave the accuracy of the listing a 4 because I felt like some of the positive aspects of the house and the neighborhood were not mentioned and should be.
With it's location so near "downtown" Duck and yet Corolla and Nags Head just a quick drive away, Wave Den is a winner.

We love renting this house in a quiet ,secluded location an easy walk from the beach. We were very happy with the upgrades to the house since we stayed there last year. The carpeting is gone, replaced with easy care linoleum floor throughout which was very easy to keep clean, and not something I had to worry about my dog possibly damaging. The floor looks great too, in keeping with the beachy vibe of the house. The front and back decks are all new, they look terrific. The front stairs with their deep treads easy to traverse with one’s luggage or groceries, what have you.
This the perfect relaxing house for a vacation at the shore. Lots of outdoor space to enjoy the beautiful North Carolina weather, the screened in porch perfect for meals with its large round table and 4 large benches and a large, modern new fan overhead, we ate every meal there. The star gazing from the decks is amazing, great for bird watching too. We saw a group of deer walk by one morning too.
Previous guests have left various items to share with others renting the house such as paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, spices in the kitchen, etc. We love that.
I cannot recommend this house enough, although I don’t want to go on about it too much so that there will be some availability when we want to stay there again!

Just ducky!
We just got back from a week stay at The Wave Den and it was perfectly appointed for our family of 6 for a vacation filled with firsts. We have always traveled with family or friends. This was our first vacation with just our kids and I’m so glad I found this place. So close to the beach and in between Kitty Hawk and Corolla. Kids did body boarding, paddle boarding and kayaking for the first time in ocean/bay waters. And we can’t forget our fur baby—who also took her first vacation with us. It’s not always easy to find rentals that allow pets, especially larger breeds. Our girl loved the screened in porch where she could chat with the neighborhood doggies about all the critters she saw and waves she surfed the day before. Plenty of beach gear for use; loved the beach wagon and outdoor shower.

Just Perfect!
Our stay at this house was just perfect! It was clean, easy to find, perfect location and had everything we needed! We appreciate that it is dog friendly! We would highly recommend this property and will probably be back!! Some nice features were the keypad entry to the house, A/C, Adirondack chairs and like new washer/dryer. The location is ideal, you can walk to the beach and bike or drive into duck. The house was VERY clean and comfortable.

This was 9 days of well deserved and perfectly timed total relaxation. Clean.. quiet…well equipped. Beds are comfortable. Walk in shower is awesome. Close to the beach as well as Duck (love those Duck Donuts). The brand-spanking new deck was an invitation to sit out and just chill. New vinyl flooring was perfect for quick clean ups of sand and pet hair. I only wish there had been swifter floor dusters and mops.
We are back to the real world….. but next summer we’re hoping to return to the Wave Den.

Taylor was very quick to respond to any texts I sent her. The overall cleanliness was very clean, needs a good power wash on the outside but mattresses were comfortable, kitchen pretty well stocked, and a short walk to the beach! We would stay here again and stay longer!

Quiet neighborhood beach
Our 2-week stay in this quiet cul-de-sac home was perfect…clean with updated bathrooms, lots of kitchen amenities for cooking, large washer/dryer, great A/C and comfortable beds. We really appreciated all the outdoor seating and the roofed-screened-in porch that allowed us to sit outside during the one morning of rain. The tree-surround provides a nice layer of privacy. Couldn’t have been happier with outdoor shower and hoses to keep the salt & sand out of the home. The fat-tire push-beach-buggy for transporting umbrella, chairs and cooler is a god-send!! We already booked our 2022 stay….THANK YOU for being a dog-friendly home!!!

Loved our stay here - perfect for my husband, myself and our dog. Loved the screened porch and gated deck where our dog could safely go outside. The property had all the beach supplies we needed and a cart to take them to the beach - which was only a short walk with no major roads to cross.

Relaxation in Duck
Loved staying at this property, a short walk down very quiet , low traffic, gravel roads to a beautiful, endless Outer Banks dog friendly beach. Though the house had homes all around it, it felt very private because of all the trees surrounding the houses.
This house had plenty of beach chairs to use as well as a cart to transport said chairs to the beach.much appreciated Spent a lot of time on the generously sized screened in porch just off the kitchen. It was surrounded by greenery and had an overhead fan and 2 plugs available and a table that seats up to 8 persons. There is a very large outdoor deck on the front of the house we used to watch the sun descend and the stars pop out at night.Loved that a gate could be closed and the dogs could wander freely on this large deck. In addition, one more private small deck in the back corner of the house off one of the bedrooms. That porch we enjoyed to look at the moon and millions of stars, or to take in the ocean breezes in the afternoon. We were fortunate to have great weather the week we stayed at this property, we spent the majority of our time outdoors either at the beach or on the decks of this house.
As for the inside, clean, comfortable, bright spaces. A serviceable kitchen that includes a dishwasher. Plenty of cookware,
even spices and sugar, etc. Many cottages we have rented before would not even have salt and pepper. The beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows and blankets Loved having access to a washer and dryer at this cottage.
This cottage very dog friendly, so be aware that there are some subtle pet stains on the carpets and some baggy slip covers on the couches. A boutique designer type cottage this is decidedly not which is exactly what we liked most about this place. Mind you, everything was neat and clean and homey and beachy and a great place to kick back and enjoy.

The kitchen is well-appointed for all kinds of cooking (if one is so inclined). You’ll need a car to drive to restaurants/grocery stores (Wee Winks is about a 6min drive if you turn left out of Sound Sea Dr. & Harris Teeter and Food Lion are about 15-20min in Corolla if you turn right). Due to the current pandemic conditions, we chose take out from some of the local restaurants (please don’t forget to add a healthy tip for those hard-working service folks - they’re doing a phenomenal job in challenging circumstances!). The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes & the beach buggy the host provides is fantastic! The hosts have generously provided beach chairs, pool noodles, useable sand toys, as well as items for corn hole, volleyball and basketball. There are also several games and a plethora of books for all ages & interests. Beware that the dryer doesn’t automatically shut off when you open the door & there is no shut-off that I could locate, so keep the folding door shut if you have small children. If you have a dog, you’ll need a flashlight for evening potty walks - it gets DARK back there. The carpet is heavily stained in several areas with prior spot cleaning, but there is no residual pet odor (we had 2 small dogs with us & neither of them were interested in ‘marking’). Water pressure is good for showing and our bed was comfortable (we took the front bedroom just off the kitchen). Overall, we were comfortable, enjoyed our first Outer Banks experience, and appreciate the McIntyre’s hospitality.

We had a great time at the Wave Den! 2 couples, 2 kids, and a dog for 6 nights and everyone had plenty of space. The home's layout makes for laid back living. Our favorite place was the screened in back deck. The house is outfitted with everything we needed, even the little things that don't occur to you when going away. The beach cart/buggy made it simple to get down to the beach, and the neighborhood is extremely quiet. We loved that the Wave Den is dog-friendly, as is the beach. We got to meet a handful of homeowners from the neighborhood and everyone was nice to us out-of-towners. We made some great memories, and the whole family wants to book again!

It was dirty. Bugs lined the window. Noticeable dust everywhere. Dishwasher broke- smelt something burning, don't think there was really WIFI at all. Would of been nice to have basic cleaning supplies-trash bags, sponges. And really should supply some linen. We have rented many houses and this is far the worst. Deck boards coming up and is hazardous. Beds where not cozy. This house was not worth the money we paid and I would not recommend. it.

I especially liked the screened-in porch. There were lots of birds. I would like to stay there again. The town center is closeby.
