The 19th century building is spacious, inviting and bristling with comfort and convenience. It offers a unique atmosphere for people seeking a new experience. New Norfolk is regarded as the country capital and only 20 minutes from MONA, Hobart's world class Museum of Old and New Art, 30 minutes to, Salamanca Markets, and the Hobart water front. Travelling west there are bucolic rural settings, small townships, Mt Field National Park, Forestry, fishing, hunting, bushwalking and adventure. The township of New Norfolk represents one of the earliest towns in Tasmania, circa 1807. The 19th century early settlers relied on stunning river frontage, timber cutting and forestry, later cropping, fruit and hop farming and mental health. The 20th century was marked by industrial growth and the emergence of mining, dam building, paper making, tourism and continuing service to the mentally ill at Willow Court. This accommodation features heritage bricks, substantial timbers flooring and walls, heavy exposed beams, high ceilings, and well ventilated rooms. The rooms are heated by a fan forced wood burning heater in Kitchen / Dining room and an imposing free standing wood burning fire in the lounge / library. Today, the Oast House operates as a holiday home and Fine Wood working school. The woodworking school commenced in 2015. We offer short courses and accommodation throughout the year. Details of the classes and accommodation can be viewed on the web address listed above.

We had a wonderful 9 days (us and elderly mum) in this amazing historic home in New Norfolk, 25 mins from Hobart. Full of character! Chris showed us around the ancient parts of the building (really interesting g). His workshop is awesome! The house is a lived-in family home with lots of interesting books, decoration etc (chris and Kaye have separate apartment). Not the whole cookie-cutter beige pristine rental property thing! That suited us just fine. Comfy lounges, Netflix, beautiful balcony made for a very relaxing break. Our little dog was welcome. Some stairs and very high beds. We loved the location (inside Tynwald park). Lots nearby - don’t miss Agrarian kitchen., Quilted Teapot, wineries, antiques. Chris and Kaye are beaut people and were very helpful.
