Our family of 5 loved this house, good central location to explore the area around Tamarindo, nice and quiet, outside of the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo. The howler monkeys in the area can be heard through the valley it's quite cool! Marta came by and tidied up the house daily so we could spend maximum time at the beach. The kids loved surfing and boogie boarding and a sunset horse ack ride is a must. Our favorite beaches in the area were Flamingo and Allevena!! Thanks for sharing this amazing house with us!

Bottom line, even though we booked this property back in August, the owner did not have (or care about) the house ready for the family vacations between 12/16 - 12/21. Issues ranged from septic tank (that they were cleaning up today before we left the house), dishes with mildew smell (did not even care to clean them up before we showed up), and toilets broken to roof leaking, AC not working properly, curtains and stairs in poor condition, and 4 outside chairs broken.
Either the property has not been rented for a while or the house is missing major maintenance or both.
When writing to the owner, only replied back was “sorry for the shortcomings” and sent technicians to fix the issues, issues that should be fixed before even considering renting the property before the guests are arriving.
I always have had very good experiences with VRBO until now. Definitely, I will escalate these issues further with VRBO.

Views galore!!! This house is amazing. Our family just could not get enough of the house, the views, the pool and pool table. It easily fit us five and I can see it fitting quite a bit more. My advice for the house is to download the directions via Google Maps and don’t worry about GPS. We never used our GPS with the rental car. Plus, the roads are easy to learn after a day or two and we went to Playa Flamingo, Rio Celeste, Monte Verde. Tamarindo, etc…
Marta, is a great cook and overall solid person. Tia, is awesome communicator. Lastly, the best thing about staying at The Palm House is you get the authentic feel of Costa Rica that you never get at a hotel. ¡Pura Vida!

Overall, we were very happy with the Palm House! We stayed at the Palm House with another couple during our vacation this past February. The home is very beautiful!
My biggest issue with the house was the location. It is advertised as 10 minutes from beaches/downtown. I am not sure how anyone is getting to downtown (7 miles away) in 10 minutes with 1/2 of the trip on dirt roads. It took us on average 20 minutes to get to Tamarindo Beach. We rented a 4WD SUV as recommended, but the dirt roads are not well maintained. There are potholes the size of bathtubs all over the road, on both sides, so driving over 20 MPH was not happening. Also part of the dirt road going up to the house (HUGE HILL), was washed away. So we seriously put the car into 4WD and all held on as I hit the gas to get up! Since we were spending a majority of our time downtown, it was a slight inconvenience to do that much driving. It would have been nicer to be slightly closer and rent a golf cart to go back and forth in to town.
We did have an issue with the deadbolt on the front door, but we contacted Tia right away and she had it fixed within 24 hours! So communication with the property owners/mgmt was great!
However, if you are planning on relaxing at the home most of the time you are there, this is the place for you! We used the grill outside, played pool, and laid by the pool. (Note - the chairs that are in the pictures are not there - there are different ones and the "pergola" in the pool was not setup either).
Things to check out when you go:
1) Black Stallion BBQ (delicious!)
2) Green Papaya (AMAZING tacos)
3) Breakfast on the beach (Nogui's - get the huevos rancheros)
4) Sunset Catamaran (we went with Blue Dolphin)
5) Check out the El Mercadito de Tamarindo for a variety of food options!

We loved our week at Palm House. It's worth the drive out of town to get away from the bustle of Tamarindo and the evening mosquitos. It was windy, but we actually loved that. It was fun to listen to see night, and it is nature's air conditioner!! The outdoor room on this house is so wonderful; it's where we spent most of our time. It feels private, and the sunsets are amazing. Marta cooked for us one night... She is amazing. I highly recommend Palm House!!

The Palm House embodies escapist desires if that's what you're coming to Costa Rica for. From the creatively designed patio with inifinity pool overlooking the country side to the design of the wind to pass through the floor plan to cool the home, this property is timeless.
Marta cooked several meals for us and it was all delicious. Thank you for having us. We'd definitely stay here again if we make it back to this area of Costa Rica.

Palm House is better than the pictures depict. Our family of 6 immediately acclimated to the home and the amazing surroundings. Perched high on a hill allows amazing views. That is what I will miss the most. The home is great, but it is the outdoor living space coupled with the breathtaking views that make this home a 5+.
A 4 wheel drive is a must to get up the dirt hills, but once you do you will not be disappointed. We also quickly used the hills for our morning exercise, further adapting to our stay!
It takes about 15-20 minutes on dirt roads that are like washboards to get to Tamarindo. We didn't mind one bit and quickly adapted to the adventurous drive. We loved passing all the dogs and other wildlife that were on the road, so be sure to drive carefully.
Tamarindo was wonderful. Some favorite restaurants were Pangas for the amazing waterfront location. You sit on the beach and enjoy your dinner. Food wasn't as good as some of the other places but you want to experience it once. Bamboo Sushi Club was a hit. On our second visit the town lost power twice during our dinner. Quite an adventure. We absolutely raved over Fish and Cheese. If you want authentic Italian food, find your way to this restaurant. Santa Rita Cafe quickly became our favorite breakfast restaurant. The owner is a former chef I believe from Paraguay. They are open for breakfast and lunch and they make clean and fresh food. The green green smoothie was on my menu each time. Wrap Soda was good for lunch. Wonderful sandwiches and wraps overflowing with fresh vegetables.
My kids loved surfing and boogie boarding so we rented from Iguana surf shop most days. The beach across the street was perfect and became our favorite. We did a tour to Rincon de la Vieja where we ziplined, rode horses and tubed. A fantastic day. We also drove to Monte Verde and did a cloud forest tour. What a ride up there. Think really high and no guard rails and of course lots of winding dirt roads. Well worth the trip and the town is wonderful.
The house was amazing. Marta cleaned almost every day and cooked for us one evening. She joined us for dinner and we did our best to learn Spanish. She is a wonderful blessing.
The pool was the perfect temperature and we used it daily. The bedrooms have air conditioning that makes sleeping after long and busy days very comfortable. If I owned the house I would put a unit in the living room/kitchen area, but it was fine. Will definitely be back!!

Costa Rico Dream Vacation
The Palm house was the perfect set up for our family. Being a quick ten minutes from town but feeling like you have a hillside to yourself was amazing!! We really enjoyed the pool, the pool table, and the view. Marta was great and fixed us several evening meals that were delicious! The kitchen area was warm but the bedrooms were nice and cool. Of course, we lived outside under the cabana!! Thank you for allowing us to create such a memorable family week together in your beautiful home...

What a beautiful home tucked away on the hillside of Tamarindo. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Conveniently located. Marta was so hospitable and made us feel at home. Her meals were absolutely amazing. Hope to return again!

The house worked out great for our family.
Tia and Marta were wonderful to work with. Tia was a tremendous help when our luggage did not show up in Liberia with us. Marta made a wonderful meal with some of the fish the guys got spear fishing. Unfortunately it was very windy our entire stay so it was difficult to leave windows and doors open as much as we would have liked so managing the temperature in the house was more challenging. The Sunsets were spectacular from the pool and patio area. Love its and would definitely return.

Great home! Gorgeous views and an awesome location!
Tia was fabulous to work with and the views are spectacular. Marta is the best cook and really got to know us. She loved on our kids and made them laugh every morning! We hated to leave and are already discussing our next trip to the palm house. The things that are not so great......the geckos are loud at night when you are trying to sleep and the kitchen area gets very hot. If that area could get a unit, this house would be perfection!!!

Beautiful house with an amazing view!!
My family just spent a few days at The Palm House. We wish we could’ve stayed longer, this house is beautiful and located in a nice and secluded area. The owner, Tia was very responsive to the emails and Martha(housekeeper) was very nice and keeps the house very clean and organize. We’ll definitely rent this house again!!

Mountain hideaway close to everything
My family of 4 and another family of 4 extremely enjoyed our stay at the Palm House. The owner, Tia, is great to work with, fast to respond, and very informative. The housekeeper, Marta, is so sweet, funny, and a great cook! I enjoyed trying to converse with her and even our ride to the grocery store. The house has everything you need and more to relax and spend quality time with friends and family. My wife spent most of her time in the hammock. The boys and I played pool. We all hope to visit the Palm House again soon! Also, spend a day with Alex and crew down the street at Black Stallion. Very entertaining!

The most beautiful house with unforgettable views
Me and 4 of my girlfriends stayed at Tia’s home last month and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Tia is super helpful in planning your trip and very responsive. We had an amazing time at The Palm House. Every morning we woke up to a beautiful sunrise and sounds of nature. We enjoyed the luxury of the open air patio and pool. It’s a close drive to Tamarindo beaches and grocery stores. You’ll definitely need your own 4x4. Marta, the housekeeper, prepared dinner for us 2 nights and it was delicious! We had a little trouble finding the house the first night we arrived but I think if we arrived during the day, it would have been easier to find. Will definitely come back!

Amazing 2 weeks !!!!!!
Beautiful home with all the amenities and gorgeous views. Great location to the beaches and shops but loved how the House was far enough away to be secluded on top of the mountain with amazing trade winds . One of the best things was Marta the caretaker. She was AMAZING and took care of the house and all of our needs such a sweet and caring person miss her already . You will not be disappointed if you decide to rent this wonderful home , definitely would go back 😊🌴

Private, Mountaintop Home with Private Pool & Pool Table
This was our family's first trip to Costa Rica. We flew into Liberia and drove about an hour to The Palm House, our mountaintop sanctuary. After successfully navigating the driveway, Marta welcomed us with an authentic Costa Rican dinner. She's a wonderful cook who also kept the house spotless during our stay.
The Palm House is a beautiful, modern home positioned to perfectly capture the breezes. Each bedroom has a view, air conditioning, large closets, and en suite bathrooms. The contemporary kitchen is well stocked with everything necessary to prepare meals & endless snacks for teenagers.
Our family enjoyed exploring the Tamarindo area restaurants & shops. We loved the food, smoothies & mojitos at Lola's & the lobster at El Coconut! We highly recommend Black Stallion Ranch for zip lining, horseback riding, & the Costa Rican BBQ with karaoke! It's just 2 miles from The Palm House. The owner is a former pro surfer from South Africa. He's an incredible host who has an amazing vision for his ranch.
Tia, the owner of The Palm House, was wonderful to work with from the booking process through our departure. She responds immediately to questions & provides lots of information on the area for her guests. Tia & Marta went above & beyond the call of duty when I made a mistake with our booking at Black Stallion Ranch. Marta personally met me at the ranch & the owner was flexible & super accommodating.
Thank you, Tia & Marta for a memorable Christmas family vacation!

Beautiful, elegant, peaceful!
We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. This is our first trip to this country starting in San Jose, then the Arenal volcano area and cloud forest Monteverde. The Palm House was our last stop to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery. The pictures couldn’t even replace the real experience of being there. We were lucky to have an amazing sunset over the range of mountain beyond the pool one night. And moonshine over the valley can bring extreme peace to any soul.
By night time we were greeted with ranges of music from the frogs at the pool area, little green ones, yellow ones and big toads. In the early morning, the misty clouds around the house and down the valley made the place so ethereal.
The house is spacious and modern, tastefully decorated, and all three bedrooms have beautiful valley views and air conditioning. There were plenty of closet space and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with all you need for your favorite meals.
We love the rancho area where we can enjoy outdoors meals, had fun playing at the pool table, relaxing in the hammock. The swimming pool is our savior for the whole day, enjoy the warm water under the palm tree with view of the mountain; what else would one can dream of?
We went zip-lining at the nearby Monkey Jungle Canopy tour and visited several beaches. At times we came home to a meal that was ready for us by Marta. We were lucky to have her there to help with grocery shopping at the nearby supermarket and preparing food. She is such a good cook. We love her rice, bean and the grilled fishes, her seafood soup is fantastic.
The owner was very helpful and checked in with us to make sure everything is ok.
It was such a beautiful get-away experience. Absolutely amazing!

Great home, incredible views, outstanding hosts and service!
I used to manage fine dining restaurants for several James Beard winning chefs and something one of those chefs/restauranteurs taught me early on that I will always remember is "it's not IF something is going to go wrong at some point in service, it's not IF a guest is going to have a complaint - legitimate or not - it's how you handle that mistake or grievance that will determine whether you'll be a successful hospitaltarian and run a successful restaurant."
That same idea could as easily be applied to hosting someone in your home and on that front Tia is a true hospitalitarian. The reality of owning and renting out a home in a tropical rainforest is that something is bound to break, malfunction or just not go to plan as is the case with a couple things during our stay but Tia handled all the issues with grace and expediency which made us feel beyond cared for.
Throughout the entire process - prior to the trip and during - Tia was very responsive, informative and helpful. Her 12 page Welcome guide provides her guests with a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area and gives you all the keys for a successful stay.
Plus, she has Marta. I cannot say enough great things about her but I absolutely recommend hiring her to prepare a meal of typical local food. We asked her for an ingredient list, purchased the ingredients ourselves then she arrived at 5:00 and by 7:00 we were sitting down to a seven dish meal which included the best arroz con pollo I've had in three different trips to the Guanacaste region. She truly is worth her weight in gold.
One last thing to add, for those people who want ease and convenience this house may not be for you however, if you want a semi-secluded, well cared for home off the beaten path amongst the howler monkeys and the lush green hills then this is it. The reality is that even though Tamarindo is only 12kms from the house it will take 20 mins to get to town and half of that is over bumpy, rutted out country roads. The steep drive up cannot be done without 4WD/AWD. It is a fun ride in however, especially in a thunder storm😀

I've to say The Palm House was more beautiful in person to my family and I,we went into town did some shopping, site seeing, deep sea fishing and took a boat tour and even took a wall into the jungle and saw some monkeys.Coming back from one of our trips back to Palm House Marta cook us a wonderful dinner and we even had Marta join us for dinner.Marta kept the home very clean during our stay,we enjoy our time at The Palm House very relaxing highly recommend on the Palm house,Tia the owner was always on quick response when ever I had a question during our stay Thank you Tia for everything your home is very beautiful and clean and Marta is a great cook.We are looking forward into the future to come back. Fabulous house!
Our family of 8 enjoyed our stay at the Palm House over Christmas. The home was spacious and we loved the indoor-outdoor living area which expanded the dining and visiting area. We also enjoyed having Marta cook our dinners for us. It was wonderful to spend the day out doing adventures and then return home to a delicious dinner about 6:30pm each evening.

Gorgeous home! Hate to leave!!
We had a wonderful week at the Palm House. This place is right out of a magazine and was always such a joy to come back to each evening. We lived out on the patio practically. The hammock, the pool table, the daybed, the incredible pool - it was all perfection.
Highly recommend!
