About this cottage rental
Situated in Orleans, this charming cottage for $210 per night is a great option for your next break. Sunset Cottage has been described by people who have visited as quaint, cozy, romantic, bright, peaceful, relaxing. There is one bedroom downstairs and additional sleeping in the loft area. This fully furnished cottage has lots of light with 2 picture windows on the first floor and one on the second facing South and West with great views of the open fields, trees and the Green Mountains. The cottage has a cathedral ceiling with a large loft area that is a TV/Sitting area and can be used as a sleeping area. There is a Vermont Castings gas stove which heats the cottage with additional heat in the bathroom, which has a tub/shower and washer/dryer. Downstairs also is the living room/ kitchen area. The kitchen is complete with a full size refrigerator, gas stove with oven, microwave, coffee pot, etc. Linens are provided. Nearby are country stores, fine dining, churches, libraries, post office, groceries, beverages. and several micro breweries, including the Hillstead Farm Brewery in nearby Greensboro. Winter Sports: Cross Country skiing, snow shoeing, skating at the nearby Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Summer Sports: Craftsbury Outdoor Center provides bike rentals. Also the cross country ski trails are used for biking trails. The Center also provides professional sculling lakes and instructions. Snow Mobile: We are located by the trail! Park your trailer and you can ride from Sunset Cottage.

This was our second time staying at Sunset Cabin and it certainly won’t be the last. John is a great host who keeps the property/ house very clean & well stocked with essentials. Highly recommend staying at Sunset Cabin if you are looking for a place to stay in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

This was a great place and reasonable priced. It has ample room with a nice loft. Just be careful using google map, it took us to a different property about 2 miles farther down the road. If you’re looking for a nice quiet getaway with beautiful surroundings, this is your place.

This cottage is wonderful. It is located in a quiet rural area. The road leading to the cottage offers a beautiful view of the valley and amazing sunsets. The cottage has everything you need. We had 4 adults there with no problems as far as room and sleeping space. If you’re looking for a great quiet place to spend some quality time this is it.

My stay at the Sunset cottage was absolutely wonderful. Upon my arrival the hosts checked in with me via phone and made sure that I had everything I needed. The days ranged from quite cool to extremely warm in my time there, and I was well prepared for both with both AC and a propane heater available! What funny art and such a lovely place to retreat- no frills but exactly what the doctor ordered.

We were in town for a wedding and spent two nights at "Sunset Cottage." It is exactly as described; a small, clean, comfortable cottage. The wifi was good, the house was clean, and the location was good. We mostly just slept at the house so didn't use the kitchen/appliances (other than coffee maker) or the outdoor grill, etc., but they all looked great. Could be a nice place to hang out and relax; comes stocked with board games, books, etc.; we just didn't use any.
The only comment - follow the directions you get from the host in your email to get to the house! We initially only entered the address into Google Maps and it defaulted to "Craftsbury", but the house is in "Craftsbury Common", so it directed us a few miles up the road to the wrong spot! But the directions in the email are exactly right.

John's cottage was a lovely oasis for a solo retreat. It was surrounded by lush greenery and very peaceful. The cottage was cozy and quite comfortable, with great picture windows to enjoy the scenery, a comfortable bed, hot shower water, etc. A nice experience!

Had a wonderful stay at this quiet, clean, lovely cabin. It was very relaxing and had plenty of room for myself and my dog. Loved the loft area for watching tv. Had everything I needed and then some.

Came here as our yearly VT getaway from DC with my partner and dog. The location is perfect for what we were looking for. We were able to get in several hikes within a short drive in the area and also very convenient to Hill Farmstead. There are a few great general stores also within a short drive. Highly recommend The Genny in Craftsburry.
The house is just off the road but surrounded by trees given it a more secluded feel. The road is also very quiet with not a lot of traffic. There are not a lot bells and whistles with the house but that is not the point as it was comfortable and quiet. I come to this part of the country to slow down and disconnect and was able to do so. With that being said there is wifi and smart tv that worked well.
House comes with anything you need for the most part. If you plan to do some serious cooking you may want to bring some things with you but it has the basics. Also you will want to bring bathroom essentials but that should be expected. Listing was accurate so we were not caught off guard.
John was a great host and had recommendations listed for the area. He also called to check in on the night it was getting cooler to see if we wanted him to come by and turn the heat on. He did not need to do that but appreciate him checking in. The price for the place was very reasonable especially allowing us to bring a dog which can be hard to find and in many cases charge exorbitant fees to do so. I highly recommend this place and would stay again!

The house is super cozy and a very comfortable stay for us and our 2 month old and dogs. Plenty of room for the dogs to run around and the views were great from the property. Short drive to hill farmstead and lake willoughby. The only downside to the stay was that there was no hand soap, soap or shampoo for the shower and no coffee filters. We ended up just picking up what we needed, but for how affordable the stay was we didn’t think it was a big deal. Thanks for the stay!

The great thing about this place is very close to my daughter’s place.. The place is clean.. The kitchen provides all the necessary things for cooking breakfast and enjoy our coffee every morning. Thë washing and dryer were a plus for an unusual rainy weekend.. The owner was very quick to answer our questions thru texts.. We enjoyed our stay at the sunset cottage very much and will be back again in the future.

This cabin is private but still close to everything! It was cute, clean and comfortable and we will most definitely stay there again. John was helpful in every way and always responded if we had any questions.....it was great week away and we look forward to the next time!

Was only at Sunset for two nights but it was perfect. The Wi-Fi was very handy when it turned out TMobile does not work in most of Vermont! The box fan made all the difference on a warm windless night. We even borrowed the VT road atlas from the house during the day to find our way around!

This cabin is a great affordable option. The kitchen was well stocked, the views from the yard were beautiful, the furniture was comfortable and despite the rural location had excellent wifi. The owner was very responsive and understanding when we needed to reschedule last minute. The area is stunning and far enough away to feel isolated but close enough to lots of farms, hiking and interesting attractions. Will hopefully be back again soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunset Cottage. The setting was peaceful. The amenities adequate for any-length stay. The cottage offered more than enough space for two. Our pup found the living area the perfect spot for window gazing during the rainy weekend. Although we didn’t use the W/D, having it available for a longer visit would definitely be helpful. Water pressure and temperature in the shower were better than what we’ve experienced in most high-end hotels! Our absolute favorite amenities were the fireplace and gas cooking stove. The damp weather warranted sofa snuggling and many cups of tea! Whimsical artwork added a gallery-like feel around every corner! Outside, the spacious yard and ample parking made our getaway seem like we weee far away. The dirt road and grassy dooryard area might get soggy if mud season is fierce, but we prepared for such conditions.

Amazing location, secluded and quiet, pretty cottage and very comfortable, John left very helpful printed instructions not only to access the cabin and how operate all of the amenities but also some directions to the closest covenience stores and restaurants. Amazing hosts and great place to stay, will book this cottage again in the future.

We really enjoyed the location and rural feel of this cabin. It is named the sunset cabin and we did enjoy several beautiful sunsets there.
The cabin was well equipped and the WiFi worked great! The open floor plan with loft area made the cabin feel larger and allows tons of natural light!
The only concern was that the cabin could have been cleaner upon arrival. My dog was finding little bits of food all around on the floor, so I swept the floor and that helped. The toilet and tub were also not as clean as we would have liked or are used to with VRBO.
That being said we would return as the location and privacy were great!

Love love love this cabin!! Pictures don’t do it justice. It was snowing when we got there which only added to the charm. The gas fireplace was on when we arrived making it so warm and cozy. Laundry on site was super convenient. Cell service is tough on the roads starting at 10 minutes away from the cabin but if your GPS is already on, you’ll be fine. Definitely bring groceries but that’s all you’ll need. We could barely get our dog to come inside, he loved the yard! He did bury some tennis balls in the snow, so if you see any please enjoy on behalf of Gizmo. We cannot wait to come back here.

This was a wonderful weekend getaway. Very cozy inside, warm, beautiful light, with helpful information. My only suggestion to future travelers is to CONTACT John for directions before you start traveling because the place is very hard to find in the dark (Google Maps doesn't do well and there's not much cell service).

We had a great trip to sunset cottage for a long weekend of skiing. The house is in a great location and is very warm/cosy, perfect home base for exploring the NEK.
