About this cabin rental
This original Lake Lure cabin was built in the 1950's. We purchased the property in December of 2014 and have been renovating and updating this charming cabin. An open living room, kitchen, and dining area gives your family the perfect hang out space after a day on the water. The home has three bedrooms and two baths with a king in master, queen in second bedroom, and two twins/double bed in the third bedroom. Many homes in Lake Lure have countless stairs to the home and/or the water. This cabin is mere steps from the water and is perfect for families with children or older family members. I can’t say enough about how much we loved this property. The happy heron cabin was the perfect location to spend our 10 year wedding anniversary. This was our first time visiting lake lure, and we absolutely loved it. The views of the lake and the amazing sunsets from the cabin were incredible. And we were able to bring our fur baby with us which made it even better. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed in the kitchen to make meals at home. It is also a short drive to nearby restaurants and the grocery store. We can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend this property.

The VIEW!! We took so many pictures from the porch of the gorgeous lake and mountains. So quiet and peaceful. The entire property is a gem. We had so much fun on the dock and floating in the lake. Our pups had a blast swimming! Our host was fantastic and helpful in every way! Can’t wait to return next year!!

Our first stay at the Happy Heron was fantastic. From the lake views, to the well stocked kitchen and minimal steps down to the dock, this vacation rental had everything we needed. And you can't beat the miles-long sunset views, just a 1 minute paddle off the dock! We spent almost the entire weekend out on the lake, swimming and kayaking. We even took the kayaks down to the LakeHouse Restaurant for lunch one day, about 2 miles away. Lovely lunch spot right on the water with lots of docks to tie up to! We also rented extra kayaks, delivered right to the dock from Lake Lure Adventure Company, since there were 5 of us who all wanted to kayak at the same time. Overall a great stay and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing lake vacation. Would love to rent the Happy Heron again in the future!

Beautiful view! Comfortable house. Decorated nicely but with plenty of space for our stuff. Loved watching the sunset over the lake. Saw some wildlife. Swam off the boat house deck everyday.

We had one of our best vacations in years staying at the Happy Heron. The home itself is lovely and well-appointed and the owners are friendly and helpful.
It was wonderful for the kids to be able to just wake up and jump in the lake without it being a big production to pack everything/everyone up and go somewhere. We enjoyed being able to have our little beagle with us as well. Many spots are available for the adults to relax which was great. Absolutely 5 star experience all the way around.

We visited for spring break in early April 2023. The house was very clean, nicely updated, and had numerous amenities. The location was right on the lake and very convenient to restaurants, Chimney Rock, groceries, and other attractions. It's a very scenic and peaceful area. Communication with the owners was great and the response time was quick. We will visit again!

The driveway is hilly and a bit challenging to drive on but I did fine. There were four gals in our group, and we had fun playing games. shopping, and the porch view. The View, Harvest and Ingles were all very nice. If it had been summer, we might have gotten in the water!!

Happy Heron is a lovely house situated in beautiful Sunset Cove. The view of Chimney Rock and Bat Cave mountain range is unbelievable and always changing with sun, moon, and weather. The house is clean and well appointed. I would highly recommend.

Perfect view and location
Our family has a house in the cove, and other family book a house on the cove, so we booked this specifically to be close. Turned out to be a beautiful location with an amazing view of the lake. We could paddle or swim between the many houses. Nice kayaks available. Comfy beds. WiFi worked well for my few work video meetings. The hill to the dock is certainly better than most on the lake! Definitely need shoes on the dock - it gets HOT. Overall a great choice for us.

Perfect lake house
The house was impressively clean, well stocked and has an amazing view! We had the best time and never left the house! Courtney answered all of our questions quickly and provided great information before we arrived. We will definitely be back!!!

The dock is perfect for morning coffee and of course access to the lake. The second story deck was my favorite place: to read a book, have happy hour or have a sit on a rainy day.

We loved floating on the lake, distance swimming, kayaking and hanging out on the dock. We also did several nearby hikes, but warm weather led us back to the water, which was perfect. The kitchen is very well equipped to cook big family dinners. The house was also perfect for our dogs, one of whom thoroughly enjoyed the no-slip stairs for easy swimming access. All in all a pretty magical spot, and we’re looking forward to our next visit already!

One of Lake Lure's Best
This is by far the best property we've rented that allows for pets (and there's not many better that don't allow them). Communication was excellent, the house was perfectly clean, and the view doesn't get much better. Thanks for a great experience!
