Go there for the food both foreign and local - a delight

The food is outstanding. Made with love and so delicious. They even had cheese platter and champagne to ease my cravings after three weeks in Indonesia

A little slice of paradise!

It feels like a hideaway resort, such a beautiful little place. We felt like we were in paradise. Alain, Ita and the staff were so wonderful and welcoming, we felt like we were staying with family. Access to the property takes about 1hr 30 from Lombok airport and Alain arranged transport for us. It’s pretty easy to access from the main island. The hotel has lots of lovely seating areas with bean bags and tables, and the pool area feels really tranquil amongst all the plants and trees. The food was absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced. I tried to make my way through each item on the Indonesian menu and was never disappointed. The Ayam ketchup is particularly wonderful, as is the Tempura shrimp. The Rendang is the best I’ve tasted! There was also a constant supply of large, ice cold Bintang. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable, with mosquito nets and fans. The hotel also offers snorkelling day trips around the surrounding islands which was fantastic again. There are also kayaks available for use which we tried. We were sad to leave - can’t thank Alain and Ita enough for such a wonderful break.

Perfect

A wonderful, relaxed vibe on a fabulous tropical island. The restaurant was great and Alain and his whole team couldn’t have made us feel more welcome.

It was all great! If you want luxury then this isn’t for you, but if you want a chilled vibe far from the madding crowd, and a little island to explore, not to mention great snorkelling, then this is it.

Für uns war's perfekt, abseits vom Herkömmlichen, authentisch im besten Sinne.

Die kleine Anlage am Hügel ist eigenwillig, hübsch und gut gepflegt (keine Klimaanlage). Die Gastgeber, Alain und Ita, kümmern sich rührend um ihre Gäste, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Es werden individuelle Bootstouren zu blauen Korallenriffen zu fairen Preisen angeboten, im Pool rumhängen, das Essen ist sehr gut und man kann abends sehr schön auf's Meer schauen, ein Glas Rotwein trinken. Auf keinen Fall wird man Teil von overtourism. Für die Überfahrt mit dem kleinen Gili-Gede-Fastboat braucht man gute Nerven ;-).

Exceptional

Such a magical place. The staff are all so friendly and full of giggles. Alain and Ata have created something really unique. There’s a lot of passion and love that’s been put into the design and atmosphere of Tanjungan Bukit Lodge, It’s like a tiny village. It’s even got a giant family of chickens living there :) Go here for really good food and cocktails, day trips to near by reefs and islands and for some slow time. We stayed 3 nights and loved it. Thanks for the experience Alain.

A memorable stay. We would like to go back one day

Great vibe, quirky and comfortable rooms. Alain and Ita have created a charming and beautiful space. Scrumptious food with an extensive menuThe rendang was exceptional. Cuisine is French and Indonesian. Alain also makes the best cocktails. Each night enjoyed a cocktail overlooking the water. Alain and Ita were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed talking to Alain about his travels and to see his photos. Charming and wonderful hosts.

There is nothing that we did not like. The pool could have been a little cleaner.

Amazing place, my favourite on our trip.

Paradise. View was amazing, room was large and spacious and open. Fish rendang was so yummy, breakfast was huge. Alain and Rita have done an incredible job putting the place together. Will definitely go back.

Nice view but not the place for us

The outlook from the room was nice. The owner was very helpful and nice.

This place was not for us. We found it too isolated, run down and the room was very dirty. We also did not sleep well due to very load mosques and cockerels. Also, after visiting Lombok numerous times and loving many of the other Gilis in the south and north we did not get a good feeling from Gili Gede. Therefore, we only stayed 1 out of the 3 nights booked and found somewhere we were happy on the coast on the mainland.

A truly special place to stay

We feel very lucky to have been to stay here - it's a very special place. Run by lovely people, beautiful setting, amazing view, great rooms and possibly the best food in Indonesia!! We went on a snorkel trip where we saw turtles - the highlight of our trip. I have seen a couple of reviews that complained about a few things being not to their standard. If you want 5-star international big-hotel type stuff, maybe this is not the place for you, but for us it was a few days of paradise.

Peaceful and atmospheric

For us Tanjungan Bukit was the perfect place. We extended our stay and if it wasn’t booked out for July we would have come back. Great food in cozy restaurant. Great snorkeling. We loved our bungalow. Alain is a great old-school host who remembers after the first night what your favorite drink is. The only thing you need to be aware of that it is not a fancy resort you are booking, our wooden bungalow basically had an open roof, so expect the occasional ant, etc…The pool is nice, but not brand new. The place is perfect for the budget traveller who wants to spent a bit more and enjoys an atmospheric place.

A great place to chill out, go for a walk, swim in the pool.

Breakfast, food and drinks were wonderful. Owners and staff did their utmost to make customers feel at home. The first room I had hadn‘t been renovated since pre-covid days and was shabby and not very private. After one night the owner asked me if I‘d like to switch rooms. The second room was beautiful and had a very nice porch. Also, the host arranges transport and very nice snorkeling tours.

Just a wonderful place to be

Alain, Ita and their staff are just wonderful people and hosts. And they have created an artful place to enjoy Gili Gede. We loved the food, discovered new Indonesian flavors and it wasn’t a problem at all to get vegetarian or vegan options. We really recommend the snorkeling trip on Alain‘s boat, even in rainy season it‘s an amazing experience and we saw turtles, a huge variety of fish and beautiful corals. The place is luxurious in location, atmosphere and hospitality. If you‘re longing for Wifi in every corner, hot showers and sterile cleaning you might book another place.

Delicious food and stunning scenery

Ita, Alain and their team are the loveliest hosts imaginable. The food was the best we’ve had in Indonesia and they were always willing to help us with questions and travel tips. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean from our room, the free kayaking and snorkelling gear (we saw plenty of coral, fish and a turtle) and the stunning pool in a rainforest setting.

The warm, friendly helpful staff. Thanks to ALL: Alan, Julie, Elda, Endang and June. You made our two week stay wonderful! A lovely, comfortable, attractive room and common area. With only 6 units it was very private and quiet. Just what we wanted!

Staff are extremely friendly, conversational and accommodating. They helped me set up the perfect romantic moment for a wedding proposal - we went for a snorkel at the surrounding Gilis, and while we were in the water they set up a beautiful spot to drink champagne and watch the sunset. Alain and Ita are wonderful people and we were sad to leave - the food that they make with their own recipes was of the highest quality and finest flavour. Their prices are also a lot lower than the rest of Gili Gede. Tanjungan should be on the top of the list for anyone visiting Gili Gede.

The mosques from Lombok were a bit annoying at times, but you will encounter this issue all over Lombok and Gili Gede.

Excellent small resort of 5-6 nice bungalows nestled against the hill of Gili Gede. Lush gardens with flowers, lots of privacy and spectacular views , spacious rooms with terrace. The owners are french-indonesian and have a nice restaurant, wine, beer and cocktails available. Very good food! You can kayak of the hotel in clear waters where you'll see turtles, chocolate chip seastars; you can book snorkel trips to little uninhabited islands nearby. There are no roads on the islands, locals live their local life... best place for a getaway.

Dirty sheets, that were thankfully quickly changed, and just very dusty and dirty all over the place. The place has seen better times, and I’m sure it used to be much nicer before Covid struck.

Fantastic location, set on multiple levels on the sea-front meaning all rooms have a beautiful view of the ocean. Each room is beautifully decorated. The surroundings are stunning, with beautiful flowers and green plants giving it a tranquil feel. The food is absolutely delicious, some of the best we ate in the whole of Indonesia.

The wifi situation is not great. Alain was very helpful in providing his hotspot when it was needed for work, but this was far from ideal and does need sorting.

we loved absolutely everything. out of our 3 month travels, this has been our favorite stay. Alain and Ita have made this home a paradise. it’s beautiful and relaxing, gorgeously designed, with atmosphere and perfect in every way…and the food….. AMAZING! we kept extending our stay and didn’t want to leave at all. thank you for everything!

Best place to stay in the secret gilis!

Alain & Itah are wonderful hosts, they make you feel like home and part of the family. You can taste love in their meals. I loved the curry, sweet and sour squid, crepes and cocktails ;) The area is quiet and great to explore raw Lombok, with great snorkeling spots close-by. The rooms and overall property are lovely, simple but comfortable. I did not want to leave this piece of paradise at the end of our trip.

Be aware that you can hear 3 mosques nearby, which you will hear 6 times a day every day as you do typically when visiting a muslim area of Indonesia :)

Superb

The host Ita and Alain are wonderful, interesting people and the food is excellent. It's nestled right beside the local village, which makes for an amazing authentic experience. The beach 100m upcoast is nice but depends on the tide. (At ebb not so good for swimming) The corals offshore are nice.

Ita and Alain have nailed it. Fantastic location, beautifully designed and characterful hotel, amazing food. We already miss Alain’s crepes. Perfect spot to stay for our diving holiday. Can’t recommend it enough.

This is the spot!

This spot has character! It is a dreamy location, with everything you need to get away from it all and relax. The owners and staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. They work with passion to ensure you enjoy your stay, as well as connect with them. Lean into the experience and listen to their stories. It's island living, with just enough wifi to check in with the real world and gekos to keep you company at night... but in exchange you experience something unlike anywhere else that so many others miss out on. Be sure to snorkel lots and enjoy this magical property. We loved the views from the pool/outdoor shower, as well as lounging areas. The food is incredible!!! Such amazing cooks and always cold cocktails/beers as sunset approaches. Who know what the future holds for Gili Gede, but we feel so lucky to have momentarily glimpsed the incredible energy at Tanjungan Bukit. We leave with full hearts.

Amazing lodge to enjoy a calm stay

If you visit Gili Gede, definitely stay at Tanjungan Bukit Lodge! My nights there were a one-of-a-kind experience. Ita and Alain are marvelous hosts who welcome every visitor with open arms. Their hospitality by far exceeded my expectations, starting from supporting me to get a boat to Gili Gede from Lombok, organizing various activities on the island and offering to arrange transport back to the mainland. The room I had booked was spacious and very sweetly decorated, I even got a lovely sunrise view just two steps from my door :) The resort is located right at a little pier by the beach with great options to take walks around there. Gili Gede is a beautiful island to explore by foot or by sea. Alain also organises snorkeling tours around the island and a scuba dive center is just around the corner as well. Bukit Lodge also includes a restaurant with exquisite cuisine from Indonesia, France and some other dishes. I had Indonesian food every night and always loved it! Even if you're not staying at the Lodge, I 100% recommend coming by to enjoy the food 🥰 Thank you for everything, Ita and Alain!!
