I'll start with the good first. Great location. Large house. Excellent view from the East, South and West. King bed was very comfortable. House was clean. Carport was great for unloading and entering house. All one level. Great to listen to the waves and people watch. Now for the bad. This is a very 1950's house with worn metal cabinets, a big old stove that didn't work so they put an electric hot plate too small to use for anything but heating water in the tea kettle or cooking 2 pancakes. We had to call about changing a very dirty bath mat. The furniture is 1950's bamboo frame with cushions which looked straight out to the ocean through 3 huge dirty windows that didn't open. The other couch was a sleeper sofa. There was only a small box fan to cool the whole house.The weather was beautiful, in the 70's but the house got too warm for comfort and the deck didn't have any shade, umbrella or table. You had to move a heavy iron lounge out to the deck and found a beach chair from the storage room. Our 4 night stay would have been better if there were more fans at the very least. But they didn't have any more to give us. We actually thought about leaving a day early. We're 70 yrs old. Maybe some of this wouldn't bother people that are younger.

Yes, It's a little dated, but you can't beat the location and the views. Good WiFi, good TV, good bed and close to several good restaurants. You'll need a bit of ground clearance to get into the carport, but once you're parked you can just about walk to the beach and lunch/dinner.

One of the best locations along the beach - away from the commercial eating areas but yet so close to the beach - the views were exceptional - I am a Landlord in Montana and I would probably have the interior painted. I would stay there again.

The location is very good. The rooms were clean. The furnishings are mostly quite old and eclectic. The ceiling lights required a tall person to pull the cord.
Pluses:
The view of Avila Beach is superb. And the window shades are are very good at controlling the afternoon sunlight when the temperature rises.
Minuses:
The biggest disappointment was discovering that the gas stove was nonfunctional. There was only an old 2-burner electric unit placed on top of the gas burners of the stove. This unit was barely working and it took forever even to heat a kettle (also too old) of water. We had planned to cook all our meals but were forced to make major adjustments and scale back considerably.
The contents of all the kitchen drawers (except for one containing a silverware organizer) were filled with unorganized very old utensils simply tossed in piles.
The cotton duvet on the king-sized bed is extremely heavy. During the night it tended to slide off the bottom of the bed and had to be wrestled back up. Sometimes one of us had to get up and pull it up at the foot of the bed.
It would be nice to have a night light in the bathrooms.

The Views from the deck, sitting inside by the big clear windows and from the bedroom were amazing. The bed was very comfortable. The Window facing the beach has some weird bubbling film on it so it took away from that view. We expected the retro furuniture, bathroom, kitchen as all looked as they did in the pictures. However, stained dish towels, old used pans, etc are not necessary for the "retro" feel. Replacing hand towels, towels, would not take a away from it. The BBQ was dirty, yes you can burn stuff off but it should be cleaned. The vent above the non working stove was filthy and has dust and dirt hanging from it. In the bedroom one the screens on one of the windows has several tears/holes. Its sad the little details take away from the stay. Also when I went to open the curtains for the great view in the living room and pulled on the rope my hand had a black streak when I was done. We would love to give it a 5 the views and location are a 5, but due to the things we are mentioning can only give an overall of a 3.

For a weekend this place might be okay but we stayed for a month. Retro/vintage is cute, but doesn’t give an excuse for broken furniture, dirty dishes and an oven/stove that doesn’t work. Asked for a refund when we got there but were denied. Disappointed

The home, which is old and without a lot of upgrades, is situated on top of a hill with a wonderful view. Honestly, the home had a few issues, it was not as clean as it needed to be, the stove did not work, the furniture (pullout couch bed) was broken and the deck was somewhat unsafe due to the fact that there was only a hand railing but no spindles. The selling point of this property is the location and the deck. We really enjoyed sitting out on the deck and admiring the view while relaxing in the sun. We loved that the beach was small and quiet and enforced quiet hours between 10 pm and 7 am. Restaurants and downtown shopping were only minutes away. I would definitely stay at Avila Beach again, just not sure if I would stay here.

The location of this property can't be beat. The view is incerdible with a nice deck and easy access to the beach and town amenities. The interior of the property is rather dated but charming. There's 1.5 bathrooms, the half bath had no hot water. The kitchen and bathroom floors were very dirty, as was the wall to wall carpeting in the main living area. Also, the home had a strange sickening smell. We contacted the rental agent and they sent someone over to clean the kitchen and bathroom floors and provided air fresheners. They also agreed to refund the cleaning fee, which they did. Overall the property was acceptable and we would consider renting again.

The house is in a great place in Avila. However, there were several issues with a little TLC could make this a great place. Lots of clutter and dust collectors. Shower pressure terrible, a hodgepodge of dishes, most that weren’t clean, Internet was spotty and didn’t work at all on some devices, furniture was old, uncomfortable and needs updating..the overall house needs a make over. Nonetheless, the location and covered parking sold the place.

This is the perfect spot if you want to be right on the ocean and have a quiet vacation. From the house we viewed whales, dolphins and seals. The downside is that the house needs to be decluttered and upgraded with a new kitchen floor and bathroom floor at the minimum. If you like retro style then this is the place for you, but if you want everything in pristine and modern condition, you will be disappointed. It is a million dollar view, so if you can get over the shabby interior, then you will have a wonderful time.

The view and location are fabulous. Enjoyed the nice, large front room.Driveway is a nightmare! Had to back in because front tires spun on slope. Worse, a tire came about one foot off the ground when entering the carport.The water heater is deficient. You can't take a full shower without experiencing both hot and cold water! No hot water in front bathroom.The furniture is really old and ragged. Pull-out sleeper/couch is extremely uncomfortable. Floors are dirty, and kitchen cabinets around handles are gross. Couldn't get oven to work.

This vintage home has the most incredible view of the bay. It is right across the street from the beach and far enough from the bars and restaurants to be a perfect retreat, when you want to wind down. I wouldn't choose to stay anywhere else in Avila.

We happen to be in Avila the week temperatures were 100 degrees. It was boiling in the house, as expected but, we learned that the house isn’t built for any cross breeze. The windows looking out on the ocean don’t open. There is only a standard door. If you want to enjoy sleeping in the ocean breeze, this is not your house!! . The cottage style of the house is very cute. There is a great large living room, master bedroom. And bathroom. Unfortunately, the house is dirty. Don’t open any kitchen drawers and I wouldn’t recommend using any thing you find in the drawers. The house is also a magnet for black ants. We fought with them in the kitchen and living room the whole week. We probably spent at least $40 bucks on ant spray and bait. Lastly, the patio makes the rental. The view can’t be beat!!! Too bad there are no umbrellas or pop up tents to provide shade. That would have made all the difference.I would probably rent again but would know to pack fans, ant spray, my own cooking utensils, and an 8x8 straight leg pop up tent.

Couldn't get oven to light, toilet never flushed properly even after being worked on while we were there, shower head had to be replaced, furniture was as old as the house and smelled dusty, carpet was worn down and had disgusting stains all over, and tons of ants throughout the kitchen and living room.It wouldn't take much to make this house amazing, but in it's current state it's a true disappointment.
