This home is amazing! The property and the view alone make it 5 stars! We had daily activities planned, but on the 1 day that the rain was coming down in sheets, we were quite content to laze around on the deck and stare at the ocean all day.
Three days during our week we saw whales right off the shore.
Make sure that if you are bringing small children or elderly guests, that you carefully read about the spiral staircase inside the house – it could be tricky.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Great communication by owners. Gorgeous main room with soaring ceiling around beautiful lava chimney. Outstanding views/sounds from the waves on the rocks out front. Plenty of space to stretch-out indoors and out. Well-appointed kitchen. Comfortable beds and linens. The kids loved the bunk beds, air hockey table, and pool! If there were one thing that we'd change, it'd be adding some solar heating to the pool during these chillier winter months.

Without giving away all of the little hidden gems this property holds, I will say that no matter the weather, this property does not disappoint!
Our week included sunny, partly sunny and some windy weather, all very mild and enjoyable.
We soaked up the sun at the pool and spent HOURS on the wrapped porch area. Mother Nature showed off with SPECTACULAR views of crashing waves that we enjoyed both from the water’s edge sitting area, as well as the nearly 360 degree glass porch area.
The lawn and tropical tree areas were meticulously manicured and were complimented by the stone fountain that runs from the house to the pond area.
The house and property are even more magnificent than the pictures show.
The inside of the home was rich with beautiful and rare Koa wood. The inside is something to behold!
There is a large table that easily fits 8 and is the perfect size for hours of family game time.
I can not say enough about the responsiveness and hospitality of Jim and Meagan. They quickly answered questions, gave local recommendations and were just kind and gracious folks.
This property is located with access to local markets and eateries nearby.
This property is certainly one we hope to return to.

the house is beautiful: spacious with stunning woodwork and wonderful airy views of the ocean.
but the best part is the huge private yard, artfully landscaped, complete with waterfalls and a pond and lovely native plants and trees, and perched on the lava rock edge of the wild pacific ocean. i spent hours on the bench on the coast, mesmerized by the ever-changing but always powerful waves; a great place to leave the busy world behind, and instead ground in the awesome power of nature!

My wife and I could not have asked for a better house to use as our home base for 5 days on the Big Island! The hosts were great and very responsive, which is always appreciated when you are traveling from so far away!
The pictures really don’t do it justice, the views are amazing and the house was beautiful. We really enjoyed sitting out by the lava rocks watching the waves crash over the cliffs. We used the pool every day we were there and it was a great option to have after long days of hiking in the park, or doing many of the other activities in the area.
The house is a bit of a drive to Hilo (40min or so) but there are many great options for food and grocery shopping nearby (15 min).
We used the well equipped kitchen to cook a few meals at the house and loved eating those meals out on the porch with that amazing view.
If you are staying on this side of the island, there is really no better place to stay!

We had an enjoyable stay. Everything was clean. It was great location to explore the volcano area and Hilo. We had some luck with timing and got to see the super moon rising over the water. Hosts were responsive. Thanks for sharing your home!

This very secluded property is beautiful with brqth-taking views of ocean. The bedrooms were comfortable and the main living area and porch gave spectacular views. On the negative side, the main living space is not air conditioned and even with doors wide open and ceiling fans going, the humidity is high and always stuffy coming home as we were told to lock windows/doors up each time we went out for day trips. We traveled to all the nearby spots including Volcano and north of Hilo . Watched fireworks on 4th of July over Hilo Bay - just great !! Our days were so full we didn’t have time to use the lovely private swimming pool. The owners were extremely responsive to questions and requests and provided lots of information on local food places. Definitely go to Pepe’s for breakfast or lunch. Overall we would return in a heartbeat !!!

You will not find a better place to stay on this side of the island. The views are spectacular, the grounds are breathtaking, and the house is unique, beautiful, comfortable, and inviting. Pictures do not do it justice. I could sit on the deck for hours just watching the waves, and enjoying the birds and wildlife. The fire pit was also a great addition. Make sure to take a trip outside once it’s dark to enjoy the stars. I have never seen so many stars! Absolutely beautiful! The owners were also very responsive and helpful. I could have honestly stayed at the house the entire week, and just enjoyed the surroundings. You will not regret booking this beautiful home!

The house was amazing, but truthfully we weren't there all the time as there is so much to see on the Big Island! We did have many dinners together, the kitchen was big enough for evrybody to either be working on a meal or sitting and talking to the chefs for the evening.
We never fully got used to the temp in the main area, but to be fair, we came from an area that was still experiencing temps in the mid 60, but the temps in the bedroom were perfect!!
This house has something for everybody, from photographers to tv junkies, this house fits everybody.
Many treasured memories were make both in and out of the house.

Ok, this house and property are gorgeous. Clean, well appointed and an unbelievable view. There are beautiful materials and craftsmanship in the mango and koa woodwork. There is a nice clean lap pool with comfy lounges.

We could not stop staring at the ocean, watching the waves crash, turtles swim, and enjoy the occasional rain shower against the roof. We used the house as a point to head out on day long excursions, and it was the perfect place to seclude yourself from the world and wind down.

Where to even start. This property is absolutely amazing! It's set on a large three acre lot that makes it feel like you're in the jungle and gives you some buffer room from some of the neighboring homes. The two levels, open concept, and wrap-around covered lanai with lounge chairs and hammock gave everyone their own space to relax. The grounds are amazingly designed and well kept! An array of beautiful tropical plants and a huge flowing water feature in the backyard makes everything feel so tranquil and peaceful.
Our kids spent a ton of time in the swimming pool that is right off the master bedroom. While not heated, it was plenty warm and our kiddos had no complaints. Be careful walking on the outdoor tiles, as they can get slippery after being in the pool or from the early morning dew. The home is set on the beautiful black lava cliffs overlooking the ocean. The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks was a great way to drift off to sleep every night. We saw whales and sea turtles right from the property! There is also a really cool farmers market (Maku'u Farmers Market) a couple miles away that is open on Sundays. There was a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, great food trucks/stalls, and local artisans selling crafts.
Our stay was absolutely perfect! The house was clean and well appointed with everything needed to cook meals. It also has a large propane grill under a covered portion of the lanai for grilling your freshly caught seafood. We can't wait to go back! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. It was a very special family vacation that we won't soon forget.

Wow! This is a gorgeous home and setting! From the terrific master suite to the spectacular porch offering a 180 degree view of the ocean to a walk in the quiet neighborhood just outside the property. The kitchen was stocked with all the equipment we needed to make meals here and for those nights we ate out there were recommendations from the hosts in a helpful book they provided. Jim and Meagan were such gracious hosts -they thought of everything! Everything was super clean and well cared for. We briefly met the pool man and the gardeners who just went about their business without disturbing us. It was amazing to watch Coconut Joe shimmy up the coconut trees to trim them. We were curious about the process and he answered all our questions and even cut open a coconut for us! We enjoyed the puzzles and games that were at the house and enjoyed the pool too! Loved that there were four chaise chairs at the pool and more on the deck. We all took turns on the big hammock on the deck. Great location to spin off from to visit Hilo, the Volcano, historical sights, gardens, waterfalls and even horseback riding. We had such a wonderful time staying at this stellar property - we felt as if it was our own private resort! We can’t wait to visit again! Thanks Meagan and Jim for sharing your lovely home with us! We were so excited about this trip but we unfortunately had SEVERAL issues with the hosts that soured our experience. First off, a separate rental agreement was sent to us the month before check-in followed by a request for payment. I paid the remainder of our balance and missed the message about the agreement. The owner didn’t mention it was missing until THREE HOURS before check-in. We were already headed across the island, with shotty cellphone service and no internet. They said they needed it to be filled out, including a signature, and a picture of our drivers license to be emailed to them before they would give us access to the house. I even asked if they could give us their WiFi info once we got there so we could do it from outside. They said no. Luckily, once we got to Pahoa, my husbands hotspot worked, I dug out my laptop (we would have been completely screwed if I didn’t have it) and we completed the paperwork.
We had awful weather… that is no fault of the hosts of course… but when asked about a tv that wasn’t working (there were two not working actually), the hosts response was “not much I can do about a broken tv at 8pm. Most people are there to enjoy the views” How about a “so sorry for the inconvenience. I will get that fixed first thing in the morning”?! Not to mention, there is no “view” at night AND we had zero views most of the time we were there because it was overcast and raining.
There were ZERO toys for kids. The only toys we saw were locked in a room that we could see through the window but they wouldn’t let us have access even when we were desperate to entertain the kids with all the bad weather.
Finally, after we left, they messaged us asking where the key was for the studio room (side note- this room is not attached to the space at all… you have to go outside to get to your room. Not convenient when it is down pouring the entire time. And the physical key had to be used instead of the keypad on the door because that was ALSO broken) Anyway, my father-in-law accidentally pocketed the key. We apologized and said we would ship it from the Honolulu airport if they had a post office or right when we got back to Michigan. The hosts response “Leave us a nice review and we will forget about it. It’s normally $250 for time and such to replace it” That’s called extortion. Obviously I don’t care about the threat because I’m writing a truthful review regardless. These clowns should be removed from Vrbo.

This was the most peaceful and pleasant vacation sanctuary we could have ever asked for. Whether we stood in and relaxed or adventured out on excisions, this was the perfect place to relax and call home for our stay. Thank you very much for a wonderful time!

It was the first time for my family of 8 to visit the big island, and in no way was it a disappointment at all! We fell in love with the house, the location, the people, and the culture! The house was beautiful in every aspect down to every detail! We fell in love with it so much that we hated to leave! We cannot wait to tell everyone about this property so they can book a trip and enjoy paradise just like we did! We ran into a little issue while we were there, and of course on Christmas day, and Jim was so kind and hospitable and took time from his day to help us out! We could not have asked for a more perfect VRBO rental in the most perfect location ever! Make a point to go outside at night and take in the beauty of the stars above! You will not see anything like it from wherever you may live!

Have stayed here twice before the recent remodel. The updates were needed and the home is really special. If you want to kick back and enjoy the best of the east side of Hawaii, this is definitely the place to be. Miss sleeping to the sound of the ocean and rain, already.

We can’t say enough amazing things about this property! Overall our favorite vacation in Hawaii to date! You almost feel like a celebrity enjoying 3 acres of privacy and 180 degree ocean views from every room. We definitely could have used more time at the house (instead of sightseeing) and next time I would book at least a solid week here! My family and I can’t wait to return. Super comfortable beds, all the kitchen amenities you could need for cooking, the kids loved the pool and air hockey and my husband and I just enjoyed relaxing each evening by the firepit overlooking the ocean. Exploring the Big Island
We used this property as the home base for exploring the entirety of the Island. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and directly on the water. We loved hearing the waves crashing (and the frogs) at night, and waking up to sun rises over the ocean. We used the kitchen for all breakfasts and a couple of dinners, and had plenty of tools and cookware to do so. There was plenty of space for our group of 6. Because we were exploring the island, the property was a little bit out of the way of everything, but we should have researched it more. We did love the proximity to the locals' secret Mermaid Pools! The pool was in a very different location versus what it looks like in the pictures, but was still well maintained and convenient. Overall, a great stay.

This property is every bit as beautiful as depicted in the pictures and online writing. The sound of the waves crashing onto the shore and the lulling to sleep by the coqui frogs was magical.
