Located in Vestavia Hills, this attractive house for $280 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Summary: Welcome to Magic on 17th Street, built in 1906! Our spacious three-bedroom/two-bathroom historic home has witnessed the rich history of "The Magic City." Located just a 6-minute walk from UAB, it is ideal for families attending graduations, professors, and students. The proximity to UAB hospital-highland and a less than 5-minute drive to UAB Hospital on 6th and Children’s of Alabama makes it a prime location for traveling nurses and medical professionals. We look forward to hosting you! The Space: Guests will enter the house through the front door using a digital keypad. The living area features a sofa bed and a Smart TV, allowing you to stream your favorite shows and movies using your subscribed services. Off the living room is our kitchen and dining room. With five beds available, you and your guests will have plenty of space for a rejuvenating night's sleep. We are pet friendly with a fee and want pet owners to take note that the backyard is not fenced in, but it still offers outdoor space for enjoyment. NOTE: we use portable A/C units to cool the home, not central air. Guest Access: The house has a digital keypad at the front door which will provide you access to the house. The code will be provided upon check-in. You will have full and private access to the home. The Neighborhood: Nestled in Birmingham's vibrant Southside neighborhood. Situated just a 6-minute walk from UAB, UAB Hospital on 6th and Children's of Alabama, immerse yourself in the local culture and explore the diverse range of dining, entertainment, and shopping options nearby. Experience the dynamic energy of Southside while enjoying convenient access to the renowned UAB facilities. Getting Around: Uber, Lyft, and other Taxi are readily available, but driving is encouraged. Here, though, you'll be within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Other Things to Note: We require a signed rental agreement and for guests to be 25 years of age to book. If you notify us of your intent to cancel prior to the lapse of the free cancellation period, we will return 97% of your payment. The other 3% will already have been collected by the credit card processing company, and we have no way to return that portion of the payment. We are a pet friendly home. Pets must be crated when they are left unattended in the home. We do not allow pets on furniture or beds, and all waste must be cleaned up from the yard. All pets require a non-refundable pet fee. If there is evidence of pet hair on the furniture, excess hair in the home, stains, or waste found in the yard or home, you will be charged the cost to clean this. In the event that a security deposit is collected, we will retain all or part of the security deposit to cover any costs associated with additional cleaning due to pets. Interaction with Guests: We like to give our guests maximum privacy, so we offer contact-free checkin via a digital door code. Just know that we are only a phone call away if ever the need arises during your stay!

Bottom line: Lots of potential, could be a beautiful home, but a few minor issues and a couple of major issues. This home needs some improvements before it is available to rent in my opinion. The good: Communication was excellent. Check-in process was easy. Check out process was easy. Management sent someone over the night before Thanksgiving to fix the dishwasher. They also sent someone over to deliver a new set of pots. They tried to make the best out of a bad situation. Management tried to make amends with a small discount following the stay. This was appreciated but I'd gladly have paid the entire amount to not have had the problems. The bad: "Fully equipped kitchen" is a bit of a really bad joke. Pans that are filthy with bowed bottoms that don't work on the convection-style cooktop. Two very small sheet pans. Very little to cook with. (Keep in mind that we are there to have THANKSGIVING with our family...) No cold water in the kitchen (and the hot water is like lava). I'm hoping that they'll get this fixed pretty quickly (and they DID send someone over to look at it who was able to get the dishwasher going). But it made cooking and cleaning a bit challenging. Everything just seems cheap. I know it's a VRBO, so you don't want to put in real expensive furnishings, but the couch is worn out. And it's a sectional that doesn't really work in the room (one side of one of the pieces had no arm, and one of the sectional 'sections' was just sitting there not attached to anything). No dressers in any of the really large bedrooms. "Access to the backyard" - Don't really get this one unless you're supposed to go through the creepy basement to get to the backyard, which is a full floor below the level of the front door. (This was fine since we just walked the dog instead of using the backyard.) The ugly: Roaches and bugs found occasionally throughout the house. Big roaches, little roaches, and squash bugs. We found them in the beds, in the kitchen, in the family room, and in the bathroom. We're from the South and we understand how difficult it can be to deal with bugs in your house, but we didn't expect to have to deal with them in a VRBO.
