It is a little run down. There was some odor of humidity in the closet, once opened it traveled to the room. It was ok for the distance to the university.

When the front desk staff mentioned that this lodging (in the University's student union) will close permanently in November, the deferred maintenance made sense.

Nice hotel in the IMU. Free pass to the great fitness center, free parking. Very basic - nothing hot - breakfast. I’d stay here again

Very neat hotel to stay for attending athletic events, or visiting students on campus. The hotel appears to be in a student commons or sorts with a spirit store in the basement. We were visiting for the basketball game and it was great being so close to the arena. Free parking in a garage and you can get a complimentary pass to the campus rec center to use pools, work out equipment, and such. The rooms do show a little age, but that did not bother us. Would stay again!

Workers were awesome. VERY DISAPPOINTED the pool was closed. Very misleading advertisement for pool and rec center. Breakfast was pretty sad.

We loved our stay at the Iowa House and highly recommend it. The staff was friendly, the rooms were very clean, and the beds were comfortable. We plan on staying again when we come to visit our college student.

Stayed her to do the campus tour with my son. Literally ON the campus. Super safe, clean, and located in an excellent location. View up the hill is the old capital building, out our window was the river. Made for easy walking to morning check in.
Parking directly across the street in covered garage that’s included with stay. Breakfast even had gluten free bread, and that rarely happens at a hotel. Gave my son a feel for campus as we walked 4 miles the night before the tour, just scoping it out.
Hotel was very clean. Staff was very helpful with directions and suggestions of must visit places.

It was ok- but I would rather have spent the same for big branch clean hotel. This had a motel feel and don’t even count on the breakfast. Mattress was good.

The hotel itself was a bit dated and the showers didn't drain quickly. There were stains on the sheets and a spot in the ceiling you could tell they had repeatedly patched a leak.
I could easily overlook these small cosmetic issues if not for one thing. I was charged an additional 56 dollars to my card with absolutely no explanation as to why. We stayed for one night, we were barely in the room, and we tidied up the trash ourselves and left it all in one bag. I emailed the hotel for an explanation and hopefully a refund, and haven't heard a single word back. An extra 60 bucks for a hotel that already wasn't worth the 130 we paid for the room is absolutely insane, especially given no context or response as to why I was even charged. Will absolutely not be staying here again because for the same price there are far better hotels in the area that don't leave you with mysterious charges on your card.

This was the first time I’ve stayed here and I won’t stay here again. It is very outdated and smelled musty in the room. It very much feels like an old dorm.

The room was ready for us earlier than we intended to check in. It was clean and warm. The breakfast on the weekend doesn’t start until 7:00 am and we couldn’t take advantage of it since we had to leave by then due to the games schedule. Parking was in a parking garage across the street and payed for by the room, it was very cold outside so that was a disadvantage for us. The staff was helpful. We would not stay there again due yo our early start in the mornings.

Unique hotel in the University of Iowa campus. Go Hawks! Short walk to resturants and bars downtown. Walking distance to to the Kinnick feild and Carver Hawkey. Continental breakfast was sparse but local resturants more than made up for that. Wifes side of bed was great mine was not so great same experience i have had at a 5 star resort. Room was very clean and in good condition especially for an old student residence hall. All in all it was what we paid for. Clean quiet place to sleep close to athaletic events and local establishments. Moved the car one tome all weekend. Will stay there again.

Staff was super friendly and helpful. It’s an older building and you can tell in the layout and wear/tear of the rooms, but I could have lived with that. The bigger issues were there was mold on the ceiling and shower curtain of the bathroom, and the closet smelled so strongly of smoke it made me cough so we kept it closed and didn’t use it.

Beds were lumpy, door would not dead bolt and there was no working remote for the tv.

Great location and staff, accommodations a little dated.

Stained carpet in room and hallways, drywall and plaster damage, shower and bathroom were stained with rust or mold, no soap, pillows uncomfortable. Will stay elsewhere when visiting Iowa City in the future.

If you’re visiting the University of Iowa, Iowa House is the hands down best place to stay. It’s within easy walking distance of everything on East Campus, as well as the art buildings. Parking in the very convenient Memorial Union ramp is included—a very valuable amenity.
The property is well kept, but is showing its age. The rooms have all the expected amenities and the river and campus views are very pleasant.
The hallway carpeting is technically clean, but full of big stains.
The new electronic checkin option works well.

Bed was very uncomfortable. The room was in a lousy location (across from the elevator and next to the breakfast lounge). Very loud at times and when breakfast was being served, you might has well have just get up.
Housekeeping staff came into the room twice during my stay, both times not knowing the room was occupied.

The team at front desk was great!

I hate the price gets jacked up for home games. Some parents just want to come see their kids. It’s so convenient but definitely not a $300 room.

Blood stains on the bedding. Old and run down. Bathroom felt like a prison bathroom

We had a great stay - room was clean and quiet! And close to the downtown festivities!

Room 427 needs Air Conditioning work. Had to keep the door open to the hallway to keep the room somewhat cool. And the refrigerator was barely cooler than room temperature.
Not sure I can stay at the hotel again during warm outdoor temperatures...I need things cool.
Service and cleanliness was great

We stayed here because of its close proximity to kinnick stadium and downtown Iowa city. Rooms were not in the best condition, but it was fine

Nice location right on the University of Iowa campus.

Awkward to access as it is located in the student union of U of Iowa. Muddy streaks in carpet and they were unable to retrieve and hold for me an item I had left in the room just hours after I checked out.

Room's were great and very clean. Parking was wonderful and was easy to extend our time by a couple hours.

There was a band that was suppose to end at 9:00- kept going well into the night. Had to be up early for a procedure at U of I- ended up leaving that hotel and went to a different one. Carpet was gross, bed was low to the ground- looked more like a frat house or dorms. Not recommend.

The Iowa House Hotel is definitely due for a refresh but it's convenient and the staff was friendly and accommodating. If it were spruced up a bit it would be perfect!

I was in town for a cycling event and was looking for a place close to the starting line. The pros:
Close to the starting line
Plenty of towels
Keurig coffee
mini fridge and microwave
Two bottles of water were provided.
Free parking in a secure parking garage
The cons:
The bathroom needed a little more elbow grease as there were dirt spots in the tub and around the shower caulking. The ceiling was chipping too with some mold growth. There was also some hair missed by cleaning staff.
The bath soap was okay but the body wash was not very effective.
The trash was not taken out from the last guests.
Bicycles were not allowed in the hotel which posed a problem for someone wanting to secure their bike.
Overall it was a good stay and with a little more work could be great.

Much better than we had expected. Nice to be on edge of campus.

The location is convenient, but the facilities are old and I could not use the microwave in my room and had to come down to the lobby every time I used it.

Great price for a comfortable stay.

Like being in a collage dorm but certainly enjoyable and good staff.
