Pleasant

Rooms were clean and decor is neat and presentable. Comfortable beds and linen. Beautiful views.

The food was okay, but the prices are a little hefty for what is presented. The prawn pasta needs improvement. Staff are friendly and helpful but there seems to be some uncertainty. I would suggest a type of pub/lunch menu. Then a dinner menu. The standard of food needs to be improved for the prices you are charging.

The devil is in the details :( Beautiful property & rooms. Staff & processes in need of training

The rooms were VERY spacious and the double bed was GIANT - such a treat. The restaurant overlooking the river is really a lovely setting. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic, always smiling.

The property hadn't picked up my booking from Booking.com so they called me the day before to tell me that we would be in a different room set up, whilst I appreciated the "Plan B" it wasn't what I wanted as we wanted the sitting room area in the Deluxe Suite, which "Plan B" did not have. There is no pool on the property, we stayed early winter and it was still stiflingly hot. There was no signal at the restaurant so each time we needed to pay for a meal my husband had to run up to the reception area to get signal on the paypoint. "Family resort" but no kiddies menu available. After our meal the waiter didn't know if we needed to pay for the meal or if we could charge it to our room. Breakfast is meant to be from 8am, we arrived at 08h05 to 1 waiter unlocking the door to an unswept, unset dining space, we then waited 15min for a coffee, hot water and a tea. There was a generator for loadshedding but our room wasn't connecting for some reason, the rooms were rather warm and we had no option to cool down, no aircon, no pool, no fans, nothing. Food was overpriced in my opinion, lunch for 2 adults and 1 child consisting of a toasted Chicken Mayo each and juices cost R500. Waitor staff were not trained well, dirty dishes remained on our tables for long periods, juice was offerred to us that then didn't exist, twice the waitor returned to tell us that they had run out of bread (first white and then brown), toast was brought to us 10min before the meal so we had to ask for warm toast. In-room ordering available but no information provided until we asked, wifi included but no information provided until we asked. No signage throughout the property about what where is. Wasps nest on the slide at the childrens playground and no shade except for 1 torn/perished parasol over 1 table next to the playground. Smoking area is located right next to the playground area.

I had a great time

I loved the location, by the River. The sound of nature, birds, river sounds and very peaceful.

it can be cold at night, some trees are obstructing the river view from the Delux rooms. Their wine list are limited, they don’t have most of the popular drinks locally

Relaxing and peaceful

I loved that it was so serene and away from the city life which was exactly I needed. The environment was calm and there weren’t a lot of people. The staff was exceptionally nice, friendly and helpful, from the reception, the waiters, the security guards, the housekeeping ladies, the managers and all. The food was also really good. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

I really would have liked there to be a swimming pool. Also the bookings.com app misrepresented the property a little bit, in terms of what they offer such as having a spa and other things but it was not a big deal. I still enjoyed my stay regardless

Average stay at River Place

Chef's 👨‍🍳 food was amazing and well presented.

We didn't feel welcome. Had to park far from our unit. What was advertised on Booking.com was a problem for the owner and she made us feel unwelcome. Instead of sorting things out and placing it in the room. Our 24th Aniverary was a disaster due to her not reading mail. No pool Online it states all meals included, but sitting at the table you are made aware of rates to be added for certain meals and drinks ect. Pathways not well light. My wife fell. Injured her leg and arm. The waiter brought a first add kit, but still no contact made back from owner. We tried to phone. No emergency contact numbers or phone.

Would definitely recommend booking half board. Breakfast was amazing and dinner is a 3 course meal from their menu. We will most definitely go back to river Place.

Relaxing

I liked Ms. Ellen, she was really nice and helpful and kind.

I didn't like it when I ordered lunch and had to wait 2 hours for the food. I went to the top restaurant/bar to order food and I thought I could eat there. The waiter with dreadlocks ignored me the entire time and didn't assist me. Until some other gentleman came and offered to take my order. He asked if I had a table down by the river and I explained I was in my room. and just wanted food. He indicated I could go to my room they would bring my food there. An hour later I went back to check. Until I called Sis Ellen another hour later, that's when I received my food. It would have been better if I was told to rather go to the restaurant and place my order wait for my food instead of being told it would be brought to me. I would have done so.

Their hiking trails are beautiful and well looked after The food was delicious Their aloe plants stole my heart, at some point I was tempted to ask for one 🤭

Unfortunately the river damaged the restaurant so we couldn't enjoy that part of it but we loved the venue, room and service.

Superb

The location is great with beautiful mountain views and a river at the bottom of the property. The recently renovated rooms are spacious and modern. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the light dinner which was modified for me by the chef.

The parking is far from the rooms. Wi-Fi reception from my room was not so good

Hello upon checking in we were advised that all the television in rooms were gone for repairs, this was not advised by booking.com or the property. We had to pay in to upgrade to a suite which had televisions. Restaurant setting good but very limited menu.

Beautiful room, Food needs work

Breakfast was good

- No stock of any chicken what so ever yet numerous dishes on the menu - Forced to order the fish which was cooked nicely, components did not go whatsoever and we could not eat the dish, also had an off smell - Most staff do not wear their masks when entering your room or close contact - No staff to contact from 17h30 to place food orders at the restaurant, They eventually came to the room to take an order - Gardens by the river need attention

The room was proper clean. The restaurant staff was amazing assisted with ice buckets for our drinks and chairs for sitting on the patio. This made the stay easier.

Room did not have a tv, fridge or kettle and Wi-Fi connection could not reach the room I was in. We did not have chairs to sit outside.

A good tranquil experience

The staff were amazing and super helpful, we can't say enough good things about them. I also loved the room, it was comfortable and spacious.

I felt that the restaurant was overpriced considering the quality of food that we received. I ordered a carrot cake for dessert and it was probably the worst thing I've ever tasted, the curry also had an offish smell. The kettle in the room was not clean, it had like a layer of white stuff inside so we refrained from making coffee or tea.
