Situated in Big Island, this charming house for $1,048 per night is a great choice for your next trip. Beautiful oceanfront property featuring a private gated home with two additional separate king Bedroom Suites each with private entrances. Enjoy unobstructed ocean views of the Pacific Ocean, Kona Coast and Kahalu'u Beach with stunning sunsets. This property includes a gorgeous solar heated glass tile swimming pool with spa. Our home is named ‘Hale Maluhia, “House of Peace”. It truly is the perfect place to gather with family and friends to relax and rejuvenate on the soothing Big Island of Hawaii. We invite you to come and enjoy our traditional Hawaiian style tropical retreat for a relaxing vacation. This traditional Hawaiian Style home is divided into three areas but only rented all together; the Main Hale, the Lower Garden Suite and the Ohana Suite. Each area is ocean front with beautiful ocean views and cooling tropical breezes. The floor, ceiling fans and trade winds provide a truly comfortable environment as NO AC is available. This home is beautifully anointed with traditional Hawaiian decor and comfortable furnishings. The Main Hale features the full kitchen, dining and entertaining center of the property in addition to the Master Bedroom Suite with king bed accommodations and private bath . The Great Room includes a generously stocked kitchen with upscale utensils and cookware and an indoor dining area with seating for 8. The living room area features a big screen smart TV with cable and Wi-Fi. In the foyer sitting area there is a couch queen hide-a-bed and an additional full bath in the Main Hale. The spacious lanai adds to the indoor/outdoor flow of the Main Hale with spectacular views, ample outdoor seating and amazing outdoor grilling with “Green Egg” or gas Barbecue... The Lower Garden Suite features a very private Bedroom with a full bath and king bed accommodations. It has a private entrance, a comfortable sitting area with a queen hide-a bed-couch, TV, microwave, and mini refrigerator. The Ohana Suite also has king bed accommodations with a full bath, a private sitting area with ‘two’ twin couch Hide-a-beds, TV, kitchenette with microwave and mini refrigerator and a private lanai. This property is located on Ali'i Drive with access through our private gate. There is a large private parking area next to the home. We came to celebrate our 30th anniversary with our adult kids. This house was perfect - everybody had their own separate space to stay. The house is very well appointed with everything you need. We started our day on the huge lanai watching the kayakers & waves. While we were there we saw dolphins, a manta ray family swimming down close to the shoreline & there are eels that live under the rocks that you are able to see when the tide is out! You can also see the colorful fish in the waves as they come crashing in. It was amazing. The stunning sunsets every night were incredible. I could go on and on.. thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home💗

Absolutely loved our stay on the Big Island, and this house had a lot to do with that! Perfect for our 3 generation family— everyone had their own private space with beautiful, comfortable accommodations. It was so relaxing falling asleep to the sound do the ocean out the window every night! We loved the huge lanai with ocean views,sunsets and rainbows, the pool and spa were perfect for afternoons after island excursions, and the location of the house was excellent for exploring Kona. We also made two trips to the other side of the island (Volcanoes Nat’l Park one day and a trip to Hilo another) and the drive east wasn’t so bad either! The property was exactly as described, very clean and well stocked with pantry supplies as well as beach and pool equipment! We were a 3 minute drive from the Magic Sands Beach (and beach bar!) which was amazing for swimming and spotting turtles and colorful reef fish! I would 100% stay here again, this little slice of paradise was the perfect stay for our Hawai’i vacation!

Teri the host, was amazing - so helpful and responsive. The house was gorgeous, and their attention to detail was impressive. The location was amazing - every day was like a wildlife show a few hundred yards in the ocean bay. Pods of 30-40 Dolphins went by every day. We saw humpback whales almost every day breaching. The ocean waves coming in right to the shore of the house made it seem like you were in the ocean. We are coming back and going to stay at this house again for sure.

This was an amazing place to witness a series of winter storms come through. From the waves crashing, thunder booming, raindrops pelting, and wind whistling, we felt snug and cozy in the house during the storms. Since the seas were rough, we were unable to do much swimming or snorkeling but enjoyed relaxing in the house. It's well-stocked and the three separate units are wonderful for larger mixed groups. Teri was a very communicative and knowledgeable host. We would recommend the house to friends and family.

We had a fabulous stay at this beautiful home. The ocean view cannot be beat, and the location is perfect. The house was extremely well stocked and comfortable. The separation of the bedrooms allowed for privacy, while the lanai was the perfect spot for everyone to meet up and watch the ocean. We definitely hope to be back!

Simply put not much more you could want or ask for. While there are many local options from beaches, snorkeling, restaurants and shopping there was not much desire to leave the lanai! We found ourselves wanting to get back here every time we ventured out. The home and grounds are wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Waking up every morning to the ocean waves and gorgeous sunrise was a blessing. We’ll be back!

You cannot beat this property! The home was clean, roomy, and supplied with everything we needed and more. The location is great. The lanai is large, always shady with comfortable furniture. You are so close to the ocean and the sunsets from the lanai are the best ever. The pool and hot tub were beautiful and very enjoyable too. You hear the ocean waves and have the ocean breeze constantly. The owner was super responsive if we ever needed anything. We highly recommend this property.

This home is our favorite on the Big Island! The views from the lanai are amazing - the ocean, the sunsets. When we were not at the beach, the boys were in the pool. There have been many beautiful updates to the house since we were last here (counters, floors). This was the perfect location for a much needed get away. Teri is very easy to communicate with and I appreciated the check-in call at the start of our trip. We will definitely be back.

This is the second time we’ve rented this home. For this trip it was specifically for my 40th birthday so we had some friends join us. We had 8 people all together and there was more than enough room. All the beds are extremely comfortable the view is absolutely incredible and the pool is amazing! Highly recommended 🌺

Had encounters with live and dead roaches. Owner did everything we asked, replaced a worn out bed, had exterminator come by to do an application, got freezer door on fridge fixed. All of this was completed in a timely manner. Live roach situation stopped once we started to take out the kitchen trash nightly. Appliances worked well. Both houses can use some handy man help. The house is not elderly friendly, no grab bars I the showers, lots of stairs, no railing to grab when coming out of the pool. All of this is an easy fix. Lots of supplies, we did not have to buy any detergents, paper goods, etc. With all this said, the ocean front setting is fabulous. This offers a real Hawaii experience. Would return in the future.

Hands down this was one of the best vacation properties we have ever stayed at based on many factors. The owners have equipped the place with everything you need from kitchen items to recreational equipment, and many comfort items. They clearly care about their guests and what they need from a vacation rental. Our stay could not have been more enjoyable. The location and environment right on the ocean are one of the top highlights. Do not pass up the opportunity to rent this property.

The best place we’ve ever stayed at. The house is exactly as described. Location is great with easy access to shopping and walking. Whale watching from the deck was a daily treat. If you love to cook, this is the place for you. Kitchen has everything you could need or want and the quality of everything right down to the knives is just like home. This is an amazing and clean VRBO. Teri is awesome on communication and keeping on top of anything you may need. The kitchen has quality cookware, dishes and an open shared pantry, which we used and contributed to as well. Bathrooms were well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and soap. There were beach accessories for all ages. Listening to the waves as you go to sleep and wake up was so immensely relaxing. The pool and hot tub were very clean and the perfect way to end a day of adventures. There is no better place to watch the sun rise and set each day than the lanai... coffee and cocktails. We spent a wonderful week over Christmas and didn't want to leave. Thank you Teri!

This is the best place I have ever stayed. Located in south Kona, you are removed from the hustle and bustle of Kona town but close enough if you want to get in the mix. The three separate living quarters are great for multiple families allowing you to have your own space but also providing exceptional common areas to come together. The pool, the lanai, the ocean front location; it all adds up to an amazing property that I long to return to. Oh yeah, it was also insanely well stocked with condiments and cooking essentials, best I’ve ever encountered. This place is a dream come true.

Years ago I had the amazing privilege of staying at this property a few times with a previous owner. So I had a frame of reference and knew the place was amazing. The work that Teri and Rick have done to restore this vintage Hawaiian style home is amazing - just the right amount of upgrades while keeping all the low key island charm. I’m blown away.
Our group ranged from 6mo to late 60s and the house worked for all ages. We had to be on our toes with the two year old, but there were enough safe guards that we were able to relax while keeping an eye on him. We had three family units and were able to comfortably sleep each family in the separate spaces (Main house, Ohana House, and Garden Suite). Truly, I recommend staying here. We are already plotting our next trip. I won’t let 12 years pass again before we come back! Thank you Rick & Teri for sharing your home!

We had a wonderful time at the house. It was beautiful right on the water with a pool and lots of places to relax. Close enough to town for quick trips or walking if you wanted to get some extra steps in. The house is very well stocked with anything you could think of wanting. Lots of pool toys for the kids and cooking supplies too. We hope to come again one day!

We stayed for four weeks so thought I would post a bunch of info to help future travelers. This place is great.
Pros:
- Excellent host who responds to messages very quickly. The pool thermometer broke while we were there (hot tub not heating properly) and the host had people coming to fix it that day. She was very diligent about fixing anything needed and responding to our questions. She texted us to see how things were going.
- Excellent location, on the ocean and on Ali'i Drive. About 1/2 mile either way to Kahalu'u beach park (snorkeling, no swimming, small surfing area) & Magic Sands (small very busy beach, waves for boogie boarding, volleyball net). You have to walk on Ali'i Drive to get to the beaches, but there is bike lane/shoulder space for walking.
-10-15 minutes drive to downtown Kona area with lots of restaurants.
- Very close shopping area (Keauhou) with supermarket (KTA Keauhou), Long's Drugs and Regal Cinema
- Excellent pool and hot tub area. Pool is large for a house pool and had plenty of room for our family of 6. Deepest spot in the pool is just over 5 ft and was overall deep for a house pool.
- Right on the ocean. Theres a cool shore (lava) break in front of the house so you can see/hear waves and get ocean spray if you're sitting on the lawn.
- Great fridge with plentiful automatic ice making
- Everything you need for cooking is provided
- Huge lanai with enough seating for 13 people (6 at a table, 4 lounge chairs, 1 sofa). Good quality patio furniture.
- Quality furniture
- Excellent and very comfy beds (well, except the pull out beds which you can't expect to be comfy but my kids actually preferred them for some reason)
- There were lots of pool and beach toys available to use, which my family loved! Also beach chairs and a boogie board available you can bring to the beach.
- Washer/dryer onsite (outside in the car park in an enclosed area)
- No traffic noise. There is a large lava rock wall separating the house from Ali'i Dr and the ocean waves drown out any noise
Cons:
- No air conditioner. There are a lot of plug in fans in the house that help keep the temp reasonable during the day and cool at night. It gets a little warm during the day so we spent most of the time on the lanai (but HI is never hot)
- The owners clearly love their house and have a lot of decorative items around - we found them to kind of clutter the surfaces such as tables and counters.
Definitely a great place to stay - highly recommend

This is the second time our family has stayed at this property. We enjoyed every minute and truly appreciated the upgrades they have done over the years especially the child safety gate around the pool. We will definitely be back!
