Friendly staff
They have a known electrical problem. They lose power intermittently. We were without power for 2 1/2 hours. There is no AC. Fans did not run without power. Room was too hot to stay in. I asked about partial refund but was refused.

The Best Western Gold Rush Inn is the worst hotel in town.
To preface, I almost never complain. In fact, I typically leave good reviews despite mediocre service. However, it took 45 minutes to check in because the desk lady allowed a couple, claiming to have a reservation, to waste her time. Even after it was clear that they did not, in fact, have a reservation, instead of asking them to step aside so she could help the growing line, she repeatedly checked and rechecked her system for 30 minutes (yes, we timed it). Eventually, they were forced to simply pay for a room like everyone else, which added another 15 minutes to the wait. After driving for 14 hours, the last thing I want to do is spend 45 minutes standing in a crowded lobby with all of our bags because of staff (or policy) incompetence.
As for the hotel itself, the ceilings are 7 feet tall, the walls paper thin, the floors like the skin of a drum, so every movement overhead echoes in the rooms all night long. And the "Saloon"/restaurant is about as filthy as it gets. For the ceasar salad, they served me raw chicken on a soggy handful of iceburg lettuce for $17. I've lived around the world and eaten terrible things, but this meal was king of them all. It would have given Gordon Ramsey an anuerisym.
In short, stay at one of the other 100 hotels in Whitehorse.

Akshita was amazing and very welcoming at the front desk. She was very knowledgeable about the area and approachable

Central location downtown with a good restaurant attached.
Quite cold in the room - staff left the window open.

Great location for exploring the small downtown area. Easy walk to visit the SS Klondike exhibit. Breakfast was not included, but there is an on-site restaurant/bar. The food and service there are good.
It is a very old hotel, so the hallways are tight, and the elevator is slow. As long as you know that and are prepared to work around these issue, you'll be fine.

It is a very beautiful and modern space, so welcoming. They take care of the details to make the space feel cozy and warm. Their staff is very nice and helpful! They really took good care of me and my fiancé during our stay.
The one thing I believe the property could use improvement on is in their communication with the restaurant and how the breakfast included package works. Their staff was very nice but I still felt they didn’t like when I came with the tickets instead of paying directly to them.
Next time I think I would just book the room and pay for breakfast separately to avoid the whole fuzz.

I was happy to snag a place in Whitehorse for the night. I know that, during the summer, the hotels stayed booked; Whitehorse was one of the tougher places to book for us on our long, 13-day trip across the states and through Canada. The room we booked also accommodated our family well. The place was clean and we slept well.
I would be curious to know the thought process behind the design of the place, it was unique and, in my opinion, a poor attempt at trying to recreate a 19th, early 20th century wild west type of hotel. This opinion didn't reflect in my overall rating of the place but I thought it was worth mentioning. The room was also very dated. Wasn't a huge deal to us but that was also worth mentioning. The room was also pretty warm and so we opened windows to cool it down but were unfortunately located right near the backdoor of the restaurant kitchen where the employees went to smoke. So we had smoke coming into our room which forced us to close the windows. Fortunately, that wasn't an issue at night and we slept well.
