A cozy, picturesque enclave in the German-speaking Valais region of the Swiss Alps is Zermatt, known most famously for its iconic peak, Matterhorn. The town shares its southern border with Italy and is also very near the French border. This equates to no air pollution and incomparable tranquility. The town is small and densely packed, making it easy to get around on foot. There are also a number of cable cars going from the village up the many mountains for spectacular, low-effort views.

Due to the tiny size of the town, Zermatt is all one walkable neighborhood. Most visitors choose where to stay based on budget, availability, and where they want to ski, since all sites are fairly accessible to one another. The two main ski areas are Klein Matterhorn area and Sunnegga-Rothorn area.
