Photos are accurate. It's a very nice, spacious cottage for the price. Beds were comfortable. Bedding was clean and in excellent condition. Nice washer and dryer when needed. Enjoyed the full kitchen. Neighborhood is quiet. Didn't contact owner while there but did before trip and he got right back to me letting me know he would be available if needed. I would return to this vacation rental!

We loved staying on this side of the island and the location of the apartment is fairly central: close to Kailua town and beaches and also close to the freeway for getting to the other sides of the island. Brian was a great host and gave us great recommendations on dining and activities. The apartment itself is not the fanciest but it's nice: a second story unit above the garage. As we drove up we saw a super fun tree house and swing and were pleasantly surprised when Google told us this was the place! The kids loved the swing and tree house and we all enjoyed staying here. Mahalo!

We had the most amazing time. Place was centrally located, quiet, safe neighborhood. Beds super comfortable, everything we could want for our 6 week stay in magical paradise, including snorkel equipment, beach chair, cooler boxes, boogie boards. Brian was more than hospitable in every possible way, quick to respond to any questions we had. My family and I will definitely be back to stay.

Our Second Time Here and Still A Great Place!
Our second time here in seven months to visit our daughter who's attending the University of Hawaii. This is a clean, larger one bedroom over-the-garage addition in the quiet residential Aikahi neighborhood of Kailua that just borders Kaneohe. Easy in-and-out to Honolulu and Waikiki as well as other parts of the island. We have been very pleased staying here and it's a wonderful base camp for your island adventures. Quiet, well-furnished, with washer and dryer. If you need anything, just call, text, or email the owner. He runs a small business but has always found the time to respond quickly to our requests.

I used to live in Honolulu for the first 21 years of my life, and when we go back to visit, we try to go anywhere but Waikiki. We were so glad to find this place.
This is a large one-bedroom over-the-garage addition in a quiet residential Aikahi neighborhoon of Kailua among well-kept multi-generational homes. It is NOT an on-the-beach rental, but you can walk to Kailua beach in ten minutes. It is a wonderful retreat from the daily grind of Waikiki traffic and living. It is near the far end of Kailua beach near a shopping center and very close to freeway exits and onramps.
This place is well-equipped. A full kitchen, including coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher, fridge, four burner stove and utensils that will allow you to make a gourmet meal. The furniture has been updated since the photos were taken, and for the better. A newer sofa, two double beds in the bedroom. It is nicely decorated. There is a washer and dryer in the unit, so you can do your beach laundry in the comfort of your own rental. WiFi is gratis.
The owner runs a small business and despite how busy he is, he always had time to attend to our needs. He is friendly, responsive, accommodating. We've been renting places in Kailua for the past 25 years, and we found this place to be one of the best. Contrary to previous reviews, there is a working television with gazillion channel cable, and there are no signs of neglect. This place is well-cared for, clean, and a great bargain. You won't be disappointed!

We had a wonderful time on our trip staying in this little hawaiian style apartment. It was nice, quiet and had everything you would need for your stay. Highly recommended, I will be telling my friends about this place! :)

Wonderful value and more than I expected. We were less then 5 mins away from the Marine Base, is why I scheduled my trip. The neighborhood was great and I was extremely comfortable. We were within walking distance to a grocery store and food. It had a full kitchen with everything needed to make a meal. I loved having a washer and dryer in the unit. Brian was extremely helpful, kind and generous. Thank you, Brian!

Not quite what we expected
This was the fourth VRBO I have used on Oahu. This particular experience did not go as smoothly as previous ones. My attempts at reaching the owner were frustrating, both before we arrived and during our stay. There was a mix up on dates, of which I will take responsibility, but overall, I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the unit. I don't know what others' expectations are for basic needs, but there was only one partial roll of toilet paper when we arrived. I never found a hand towel for the bathroom and searched high and low for a pot holder in the kitchen. I needed that because the toaster didn't work and I was toasting English muffins in the oven. I tried to call the owner about the TV, but received no return call to the message left on vioce mail. There were multiple remotes and no instructions. We could never get live TV. Fortunately, we did not spend a lot of time in the unit, as we were in the Islands for our grandson's college graduation. We had family functions to attend.
The unit has a lot of potential, but appears to have been neglected. I noticed that other reviews have been more positive, and I am glad for those people, but I personally would not stay there again.

Fair priced!
Property was as described! Overall neighborhood was good, which was a nice surprise. Close proximity to stores, banking, and just 2 minutes from the beach(in a car). Kailua was a nice area to stay in but we found ourselves driving back & forth to Honolulu to eat since there's not much in town especially after 7-8pm. The house itself was clean & well equipped & very easy to find. Only contact with owner was prior to showing up & once when we got there so pretty laid back. Overall I'd recommend staying purely on price alone. Obviously didn't stay anywhere else but seemed reasonable enough. Enjoy your stay. To Brian (the owner) hopefully we left it in as good or better condition then showing up. Thanks again!

Kailua Retreat
My husband, college-aged son and I had a great time here. The property is an apartment above a garage in a residential neighborhood. We felt very comfortable. It was great having a FULL kitchen with everything needed. If there was something additional, Brian was just a text message away and answered any question very timely. He offered tips on where to go and asked us if there was something particular we wanted to do that he might have a connection for a deal. The bathroom was large - perfect to have full-size washer/dryer - bedroom with a queen size bed and a twin. Comfortable living room furniture - TV with cable - Wifi internet access. Windows on all sides of the apartment so it was pretty comfortable with the windows open.
There is a small shopping center within walking distance with a grocery store, L & L restaurant and a Japanese restaurant. There is beach access within walking distance (~.5 mile). The beach is GORGEOUS and was barely occupied. Drive to Kailua beach park or Lanikai is 5-10 minutes (<5 mi).
Great place to stay! Mahalo Brian.....

Comfortable stay
The house is located close to Ahikai shopping mall which includes Safeway and famous pizza restaurant. It will be 10 min walk to the closest beach but I recommend to go to Kamalo beach which is only 10 min drive from the house. This beach is right next to kailua but much less quiet.
The house has everything you need. We enjoyed the stay.

Great location, comfortable cottage
The cottgae was at a great location, decorated nicely, and very comfortable. My only complaint was that it's over a garage so some times in the morning while laying in bed the garage door would be open and the gas / oil fume smell would waft in to the bedroom.

Excellent place to stay
We stayed here for 10 days and could not of been happier. This unit is an apartment above a garage and was very clean and spacious. The neighborhood was very safe and convenient to shopping and downtown Kailua close to all amenities and beaches. The kitchen is large and can accommodate full cooking also has all full sized appliances including a large capacity washer and dryer. The unit is aone bedromm with a full size bed and a single bed in the bedroom with double doors. We are a military family and the unit was less than 5 minutes away from the Marine corps base (MCBH).We stayed here for my sons deployment homecoming during Thanksgiving week. The owner was awesome and very helpful and has alot of knowledge of the island. The unit has cable and wireless internet, livng room dining room, large bathroom, full kitchen and a balcony to enjoy the fresh air, windows in every room for beautiful views and an awesome constant breeze throughout.I would definitely recommend this property to firends and family and I will definitely stay here again when we visit oahu.
Thank you Brian for your hospitality and a beautiful place to stay.

Staying in Kailau is wonderful!
This apartment is over an oversized double car garage. It is spacious, has a well-equipped kitchen and is fairly quiet. It is a block away from a Safeway. It is at the northern end of Kailau, with easy access to the H3. There is a ceiling fan in the living area and in the bedroom. Also in the bedroom is a window air conditioner. We used the air-conditioner a couple of nights, but then decided with the fans and opening the windows for the trade winds, it was cool enough to sleep. The kitchen is great for working in, lots of room, and all the tools you need.
Thursdays from 5 to 7 PM there is a market in the covered garage by Long's Drugs in "downtown" Kailau, which is a must for fresh local provisions.
We are glad we stayed in Kailau rather than Honolulu, especially Waikiki. It is much more relaxing in Kailau, with an awesome beach and swimming, and friendly people.
