A walk around the city walls is an unmissable experience, offering spectacular views out over the sea and across the city rooftops. Stretching almost two kilometres, the walls are punctuated by six ancient fortresses. Walking tours are available, or you can take time to explore yourself. Standing high above the city, this impressive, triangular edifice sits 37 metres above the sea and offers stunning views. The island of Lokrum, just 600 metres off the coast, is a beautiful, thickly wooded and uninhabited island. To get there, taxi boats run regularly from Dubrovnik Old Harbour. Explore the island at your leisure, watching out for the numerous resident peacocks and take a stroll around the botanical garden. Walk up to the old fort, which offers superb views across to Dubrovnik, before enjoying a drink in the café or a swim in the crystal clear waters around the island.
