About this house rental
Nestled in Ithaca, this attractive house for R 9,789 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Beautiful three-bedroom single-family home located in the Town of Ithaca. We are only 1.5 miles from downtown Ithaca, but it is a world apart. Private lot with private dock and private swimming and grass area down by the lake. We have two kayaks, a canoe and a fire pit on the property. We keep the house clean and update and renovate the house regularly. Our house electricity is solar, powered by Solar Farms, New York. We now have a master bathroom and two full bathrooms!! A great location to visit Cornell University, Ithaca College, The Ithaca Farmer's Market, The Ithaca Commons and the Finger Lakes Wineries. Taughannock Falls, Buttermilk Falls and Treman State Park are all nearby. Easy boat entry at Treman Marina, one mile down the road. This is fun kitchen to cook in since you are lakeside. Kitchen has sliding glass doors to large lakeside deck. Cherry floors, granite countertops, pendant lights, dishwasher, garbage disposal, oversized fridge, eat-in table with seating for seven. Gorgeous views from almost every room, including 8 windows in the living room, 3 in the master bedroom, 3 windows and a three paneled sliding glass door in the kitchen and a 6 bay window and large picture windows in the downstairs bedroom. The house is renovated and modern. Hardwood floors and beautiful finishing touches everywhere. All kitchen items (pots, pans, plates), sheets, blankets and towels are provided. Bedrooms: Master w/ fantastic views of Cornell and King Bed. This room has an attached master bathroom with a shower. The downstairs bedroom is the Bay Window Room. This room has fantastic views of the lake, a queen bed, and is near the downstairs bathroom. The second upstairs bedroom has a skylight and two twin beds. Pet Policy: We allow pets because we love our dogs and they love to travel with us. This is a great place for dogs, not only because they can go swimming, but because the deck and grass are all fenced in. You can let the dog out from the kitchen without even leaving the house. You must clean up after your pet, of course. We charge only a $30 fee for dogs that we spend on end of the year professional carpet cleaners. Note: If your dog is elderly then this might not be a great house with all the steps. Cleaning: House is professionally cleaned between tenants. Cleaners provide the beds made with clean sheets. Who Can Rent: It is a quiet area and is not appropriate for loud/late-night parties. We do not allow additional guests. Our property is steep. There is a long stair case to the house from the driveway. All tenants and guests must be able to navigate stair with ease. Unfortunately it is not handicapped accessible. Winter: Our house is a real year-round house and you can set the thermostat to whatever is comfortable. We usually do not plow or shovel the lower driver in winter since it is pretty steep. Winter tenants will have to walk from the upper parking (or even from the road in serious snow) to the house. My husband, dog and I stayed for two weeks and had a fantastic time. The home was perfect for us to get a feel for the area, see the snow, and visit the wineries, find good restaurants, and of course take the waterfall hikes. The owners were responsive to our questions about house and area. Our dog loved having the freedom in the yard. Great central location. Thank you.

The property was just as described- very well maintained and beautiful panoramic views of the lake. It was quiet and peaceful and just as described in the listing. It was a great location to relax and a great location being 5-10 minutes from Downtown Ithaca restaurants, Taughanock Falls and Buttermilk.

Beautiful location. Just the right time to view fall colors while exploring waterfalls on numerous hiking trails and driving peaceful country roads. Tons of wineries and distilleries to visit plus downtown Ithaca with great restaurants and eateries. Our VRBO host was wonderful and the house had everything you could need! Beautiful clear water and open skies to view from the large deck, the dock, or by the fire pit at night. The one drawback named by several others is the tricky driveway—best to have four-wheel drive and steely nerves.

Enjoyed this property, view and location. Close to grocery stores and wineries, and being near the end of the lake it was private and had little boat traffic. House was clean and we were satisfied with our week spent at this property

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home with its amazing views of the lake! We loved spending our time swimming, kayaking/canoeing, grilling, and relaxing in the hammock or by the fire. And it’s so close to the many beautiful waterfalls! We will definitely miss this place.

The view from the living room is fantastic and it is well maintained and clean. Three bedrooms gave us a lot of space but we had to share one bathroom. We managed. The location is between Ithaca and some beautiful state parks so the location is pretty close to perfect. We wished we had more time to enjoy the dock on the lake. Kitchen was well equipped with all we needed. Beds were clean and comfortable. If there was an item of concern it was the driveway. Very steep and hard to navigate onto the main road. Wouldn't want to be there with snow. Note, however, the current owners really have no control over this.

This was a wonderful property near everything--waterfalls, Cornell, restaurants, all are a short drive away. The owner was also very responsive. I can't say enough good things about the property. It's good to know that the driveways are tricky--and steep. I have a mini-cooper and next time I stay I'll rent a car to come! But I certainly hope to return!

We had a wonderful time and the views were to die for. Everything we needed was there up to the drip coffee pot. The house was close to hiking trails and wineries and it was nice to come back, relax, and use the canoe and kayak. We would definitely book again.

Beautiful view and great place to relax and rest. The home is warm and cozy. Because of the steepness of the hill the stairs feel like a lot but if you plan on not doing too much for the day it’s not a problem. So just plan not to bring too much stuff that requires lots of ups and downs. The faucet is short so it is too close to the back of the sink when washing hands. Hopefully when they update they get a long faucet. Overall no complaints , and hope other visitors take good care of the home when visiting so others can enjoy again and again. It’s one of those homes that makes you feel like you’re in a hallmark movie.

We had a magical stay at this property. My husband, kids (ranging in ages from 8-14), and I made many wonderful memories at the house. The driveway is indeed steep, but manageable. The steps down are a great excuse to have an extra scoop of ice cream at the end of the day! Thanks so much for sharing your house with us!

Beutiful view of the lake with well equipped kitchen and clean bedrooms. Plenty of toys and boardgames for children to play with. We were very happy with our stay. Definitely, would stay again. The only downside of the place is that there is only one bathroom.

We have stayed in several places along the lake in Ithaca and this is hands down the best place we have ever stayed in.
We loved the house, the furnishings, the view, the games, the deck, the dock, the grill and the indoor and outdoor plates. We love to cook so the long counter space and sink overlooking the lake and grill were a real bonus. Above all this, Carolyn was responsive, kind and accommodating!
I can’t recommend the place enough and can’t wait to stay there again!

My family enjoyed the house a great deal. The house is gorgeous, and the host is very accommodating and responsive to questions. Carolyn would reply to emails almost instantaneously. We loved the property and we loved the location. The kitchen in the house is fantastic. The house was just the right size and just the right location for our visit to Cornell and downtown Ithaca. We will come back again for the hikes and the wineries for sure.

Having grown up in the area I could not wait to take my two tween/teen daughters to see the finger lakes in fall. The property was better than expected- it is a cottage on the lake- but it did feel more like a home. The property was beautiful. Plenty of trees and leaves to crunch. You can not beat the windows in the living room for a sunrise over the lake- the whole wall is windows, no obstructions to the beauty of Cayuga Lake! I also loved how close it is to Ithaca- easy to get to restaurants and shops although the Kitchen is completely equipped to cook any meal. Any age person would enjoy this stay- there is something for everyone. And yes, as with most all lake front properties, there are plenty of stairs. Absolutely worth the climb.

Great location close to Ithaca on the lake but read the details. Only 1 bathroom for 3 bedroom. Stairs and driveway are no joke. It was exhausting going up and down and I am in great shape. Ruined a suitcase dragging it up 100 steps. Driveway and parking is downright scary and dangerous. House is old and run down with thrift shop furniture and garage sale kitchen staples. Yard is not maintained and outdoor furniture is horrible. Weeds all over. Bugs all over the windows. We had to hose them off. Lawn was not mowed in the 2 weeks we were there. Absolutely no place to walk a dog. You must drive to park a mile down the road. Taughannock rd / 89 is not safe to walk. Very disappointed for the price we paid. I expected much more.

Best Lakefront Vacation
Having gone to Cornell in the 90's and vacationing in the Finger Lakes once or twice a year for the past 20+ years, I know these shores pretty well. This VRBO rental is comparatively very well updated and well maintained. I appreciate the professional cleaning service as it clearly shows with the level of cleanliness. Upon entering, I enjoyed the smell of bleach in the bathrooms.
This was the first lakefront rental where we felt immediately comfortable and ready to relax the moment we arrived.
We spent mornings hiking trails or just a lazy canoe paddle from the dock. We brought our own life jackets but there are some in a bin on the dock available. One evening, we enjoyed making smores by a campfire as well. The kitchen is well stocked, and we grilled a few times.
Although we are moving to the South this year, we hope to be able to return for an annual vacation every summer, and we will be sure to include this property on a list to return.

My 3 yo daughter can’t stop talking about “the lake house.” The weather was perfect, the property spotless, sans the spiders and some ants…. Which are to be expected at a house literally on the lake. Everything was pristine, anything you’d need to cook and clean up was available. The location was perfect for our family- we spent the entire week doing outdoor activities. The on property kayaks were much appreciated, as were the life jackets. My daughter enjoyed fishing on the dock, though the ducks were much luckier than she was. The dogs had a blast swimming and sunbathing, though the amount of steps became exhausting for our old man (9.5 yo lab) by our last day. Very close to town, 10 minute drive to most restaurants and Buttermilk falls. Be advised- as described the driveway is very steep. Also snakes are prevalent in the yards. Non poisonous and mostly water snakes minding their own business but something to keep in mind. Overall, fantastic stay. Thank you so much.

The house is in a great location if you want to be close to Ithaca and many wineries. The lake view is amazing, along with the outside area which would be fantastic to enjoy in warmer weather. It was pretty cool to watch the crew teams practice in the morning. The check in process was easy. It should be noted that the driveway and steps for the house are very steep. I know the listing mentions this, but they are really steep. There was no outdoor lighting on the stairs and with the sun setting at just after 6PM, they can be treacherous to maneuver when coming back for the day or going out to dinner. It is a little inconvenient only having one source of water on the 1st floor down the stairs from the living room and main bedroom, you definitely get your exercise! The house has everything you need for a quiet and comfortable stay though.

We loved our stay - close to downtown Ithaca and Taughannock Falls, yet so peaceful and relaxing. We spent most of our time sitting on the deck taking in the beautiful lake views. Clean house, comfortable beds, great yard/dock/deck, and loved the canoe/kayaks. We were so happy to stay in such a dog-friendly house. Highly recommend!
