About this house rental
Our Vanderhost Plantation beach house is located one block over to beach path. House overlooks a lagoon on a quiet residential street located beyond the second security gate and is a convenient 8 minute walk to the beach. (google proximity map is incorrect). As you enter the front door, you're impressed by a feeling of open space and natural light. High ceilings, hardwood floors, bead-board wainscoting and beautiful custom cabinetry painted a pale sun-washed color, create the perfect setting for your beach vacation with family and friends. The large great room on the main floor over-looks an outdoor screened-in-porch and deck with salt-water pool, built in gas grill, wi-fi and stereo with built in speakers throughout the house. As you stand on the back deck overlooking the tranquil lagoon surrounded by palm trees and dense shrubbery you'll understand why we always look forward to our next visit. Heading back inside to the kitchen you'll find yourself surrounded by an abundance of cabinet space, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Wolf range/ovens and a Bosch dishwasher. The island is spacious and serves as a convenient location for meal prep or extra seating. The adjacent dining area seats 10 comfortably and the outdoor covered deck also has an expandable table that seats up to 10 for Al fresco dining. A flat screen TV, stereo, and DVD are situated at the far end of the great room with plenty of overstuffed couches to accommodate family and guests. The spacious first floor master suite has a restful. 'beachy' feel, with French doors opening to the back deck, high ceilings, flat screen TV, in ceiling stereo speakers and beautifully appointed bath area. Also on the first floor is a full size laundry room and access to the basement and garage area which is equipped with table tennis, air hockey, basketball and foosball tables. Basement has commercial size dehumidifier for year round game playing comfort. The second floor opens to an upstairs family room with comfortable seating area, flat screen TV, stereo game console, and in-ceiling speakers. There is internet throughout the house and a fax/copy machine. Four bedrooms are located off this area. One BR has two twin beds and the other three have queen beds, large closets for storage. Each bedroom has it’s own private bath-room. At the end of a busy day swimming, golfing, playing tennis, or riding bikes, you'll find that there's no better place to catch up on your sleep! The home was well cared for, well supplied, had great amenities including a pool and many games including ping pong, basketball game, mini suffleboard. Many books for children and adults as well as board games. The beds and furniture were all comfortable. A binder contained information about entry and exit procedures, how to work appliances,and more.

This house is better in person!! Plenty of room for 8 adults. Owner was easy to communicate with and detailed with instructions. Convenient location to beach. Just a short bike ride away. The house was well stocked. We would stay again!

Our family swooped in for a wonderful vacation at 23 Bufflehead. The home was all it was advertised to be. We've rented many homes over the years and this one was as good as any. Weather didn't cooperate averaging in the 60's and low 70's for late May and early June but there's lots to do. One heads up, Kiawah resort is getting stingy with booking reservations in the resort if you're not staying in a resort-controlled home. They're making it more difficult to book dinners, spa and tee times. We got past this but it's clearly a change in policy.

This property is beautifully situated on the lagoon where we watched the heron and the alligators. The house has great common spaces - inside and out, which makes it great for families.

The house was in a great location and it was very comfortable. It was well stocked with beach chairs and games for the teens to play like ping pong, etc.

Fabulous and well stocked house
Our family ranging from grandparents to 3 years old, all had a fantastic time at 23 Bufflehead. It’s close to beach, well well stocked from kitchen gadgets to games. Would stay again.

Enjoyed this clean home, close to beach, fun game room. Cozy, yet room for all to relax in their own areas if they wanted to. So many extras like the beach towels, kitchen supplies, high chair, etc. The owner was communicative and accommodating. Much time in the heated pool for both the kids and adults. Lovely view from deck and screen porch. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely and well-appointed home in an ideal location. The house is well built so, quiet. It has 4 large bedrooms with baths plus, a lovely Master suite. Two families rooms which was nice for everyone to spread out. The kitchen is perfect for those that love to cook - good flow, roomy, 2 sinks, large pantry. Loved the screened in porch for sipping coffee or wine, reading and relaxing. Quick beach access on foot. We had 2 families sharing the house and it was perfect!!! The basement/game room was really fun too. Fabulous house. Thank you!

We had a wonderful week in Kiawah. Loved this house - lots of space for our group to be together - the basement game room, the screened porch, the deck and pool were all great. The furniture is comfortable and the kitchen is well-stocked. We loved the location and the fun 5-minute bike ride to the beach (entrance 38). Owner and property manager were very responsive to questions prior and during our stay. We would definitely return!

The house is spacious while remaining a warm and welcoming enclave for our family. All of the things you possibly could want in a vacation rental are there. The bedrooms are large, the mattresses comfy as could be, with great linens and towels! We are foodies and cooked most of our meals in, so the kitchen is always key for us. It was as well-equipped as our own - with everything from a Kitchen Aid mixer to a large Cuisinart food processor and anything else you might need for your stay. The deck and screened porch were delightful and the salt-water pool lovely for cooling off dips. We loved the location with easy access to the beach and bike paths. Jerry and his wife have thought of everything - the carts, beach chairs and umbrella are all there at your fingertips. Jerry was very responsive to any questions and a most gracious host. One of our daughters referred to our spot on Kiawah as a "magical place!" We hope to return on a regular basis. Thank you, Jerry, for everything! Tina

Beautiful home that has everything!
We spent a week at this beautiful Kiawah Island home in March. Everything about the home was perfect. It had more than enough space for our family of 4. It is decorated beautifully from top to bottom. Due to Spring Break, it was hard to get reservations at some restaurants - so we cooked at the house many evenings. This kitchen was VERY well stocked! We had no problem finding the necessary pan, utensil, serving dish.... That was refreshing! We also enjoyed the small pool. We paid to have it heated, since the weather was back and forth - and that was worth every dime! The basement is perfect for kids, with a number of game tables and a basketball pop-a-shot. We like going for bike rides while on Kiawah - so we rented those - but this house comes with pretty much everything you need other than bikes. The beach chairs were in great condition, lots of beach toys, and even carts to pull everything to the beach with you! The location to the beach was not far and easy to do on a bike. This was our 14th time to Kiawah, and we have stayed in many locations. We were very impressed with this home. The owners were very responsive to any questions we had - returned emails very quickly. You can tell that they take pride in their house on Kiawah, and they want their renters to have the perfect experience.

Great home for a family get-away.
Property was great! So nice to have the pool right off the main living area. Kitchen was very well equipped and the grill was excellent. Location was great - only a short walk to the beach or even quicker bike ride. And, this end of the beach is absolutely beautiful and empty in November. We'd love to return to the house again in the future.

Great Property
The house was much nicer than reflected in the pictures. Access to private pool area was armed with alarms, which was appreciated with a 3-year old in our group. The house had everything from spices to sandwich bags and paper towels. The property owner was very friendly and responsive.
The only weaknesses were a 15 minute walk with beach gear/5 minute bike ride distance to beach, not as convenient to the on-island grocery shopping (East Beach Village), and no access to the community pools.
Overall, I would definitely stay at this property again. Stunning home.

Spacious, luxurious and clean home in Kiawah
A fabulous house on beautiful Kiawah Island. The home had everything you could need for a “quarantine” vacation. We had one small issue with getting the television to work at the beginning of the week and the owner and property manager were very responsive and it was addressed promptly. You could tell they both cared about the experience we had while staying here, which was really refreshing. All in all a terrific place for a family vacation.

Great family house
Wonderful house for a family with clean updated bedrooms, great kitchen with everything to prepare meals. The grill and pool were terrific. The House met our expectations in every way. It might have been a bit farther from the beach than we anticipated but the owner made up for it with great beach chairs, umbrellas and wagons for transport. We really loved the house.

Did NOT want to leave!
Our stay was amazing. We enjoyed the bike ride to the beach(gave us a destination) and the seaside bike rentals had 6 bikes to our house in 1/2 hour!
House is a house, not a rental(in our opinion) it is very well maintained and amenities in kitchen are as good as a home. Owner was very accommodating with any small issues we did have. We will rent again if we ever come back to kiawah!

As good as it gets!
The house was perfect for our vacation. We had 6 adults and 2 kids (each under 4years old) and there was something for everyone. The house was well stocked with the necessary toiletries, towels, beach chairs, beach toys, kitchen appliances, utensils, cookware, glasses, etc. We had some very nice dinners in the house where we either grilled on the veranda, sautéed, baked, or steamed our meals. Everybody, especially the kids, loved the private pool and we used it and the veranda almost every day. The house was close to everything. Tennis, golf, beach, grocery market, kids activities, parks and 50 minute ride to Charleston. We also had plenty to do at night as the house had great games, puzzles, movies, video games and a play room downstairs with a basketball hoops, ping pong, shuffle board, etc. Finally, the house was very well maintained, the bathrooms were great, the showers and baths relaxing and the beds incredibly comfortable. Last, but not least, Jerry, the owner, was incredibly accommodating and responded quickly to all of our needs, questions and requests.

Beautiful and comfortable home! Well equipped and minutes to beach.
Home was extremely accommodating for our group of nine adults. Well equipped kitchen enabled us to have all of our meals in. Large comfortable bedrooms each with own bath were clean and in like new condition. We could walk to beach in 10 minutes or ride bikes there in five minutes. Owner is very helpful with suggestions for activities, dining and shopping.

Perfect home for a multi generational family getaway
Beautiful home in a beautiful locale offering every conceivable amenity... and more! Easy 7 block walk to the beach for grandparents while rest of family used bikes rented from Alligator Bikes..... pool was a welcoming alternative to beach and shaded patio was perfect for outdoor meals or just relaxing on lounge chairs....superbly well stocked kitchen with top notch appliances made “dining in” the way to go....although The Sanctuary deserves a visit if only for yummy Beaches & Cream ice cream for dessert!! Nothing was overlooked, including lots of hangers, detergent for laundry & dishwasher, beach chairs, carts,towels, barbecue grill, garage games like air hockey, ping pong, mini basketball,jigsaw puzzles, dvds, ....As close to being in your own home convenience-wise while still being away in an idyllic setting.... if you’re new to this area as we were, just be aware it can be VERY hot... our grandkids got to see dolphins feeding, tried fishing at Bohicket marina, took tennis lessons at the Sanctuary, got hair braids and face painting at a local festival, played at a nearby playground, collected shells, found a hermit crab on the beach, etc....each adult couple also got “date night” visits to Charleston... can’t think of a thing that was lacking other than rain- which was thankfully not what the forecast had predicted!! Definitely planning on a return visit. And an extra note of thanks to the gracious host for making it so easy and pleasurable to stay here.
