It's a quaint old hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bathroom is very modern. The pub and restaurant area provide a good menu and friendly service.
The in-room TV and tea and coffee facilities were inside a wardrobe in a rather home-built arrangement of shelves and electrical systems. I found it a bit unprofessional, and maybe a better fit out is due. The local area is interesting but lacks enough to keep us more than one night.

We received a friendly greeting and were allocated the Otto room. The hotel has been sympathetically decorated and furnished to suit its gold-rush roots and is quite charming. We ate a very nice meal in the friendly restaurant and slept well in a very comfortable bed with crisp clean bedding. The ensuite shower room is well-equipped (if a little tired) and the toiletries are wonderful!

-The setting : a former 19th century theatre converted into a hotel and pub with all modern conveniences.
-The warm welcome extended to guests.
-Comfortable bedroom furnished in period style. Modern, well appointed en-suite bathroom.
-Reasonably priced meals avalaible in the ground floor bar/restaurant.
-Ample car parking.
-Situated in historic village on the main road to Arthur's Pass.
-The option of a fridge in the room would have been useful, but communal fridge provided for guests in the nearby sitting-room.
-Some road noise particularly early in the morning.

Incredibly charming and beautifully kept and furnished period cottage in an interesting historical village. There's a great pub, and a laundrette at the accommodation village behind it. The cottage is a bit out of town, in it's own beautifully kept grounds. Two ensuite bedrooms make it a very desirable stay. Everything you need for a comfortable home from home.
The cottage lends itself to a couple of nights stay, and would benefit from laundry facilities, as it is a bit out of town.

Super lovely staff, we enjoy the antique historic decor, it feels like a home away from home, the location looking out to bush and mountains is stunning.

Fantastic renovated historical hotel in a historic gold mining town. We had a fabulous stay & I cannot fault the facilities in the heritage rooms, food or hospitality. There was somewhere secure to store our bikes and to charge my electric bike.
Speeding traffic noise at night, especially heavy vehicles - it was hot and we did have the windows open so I some noise was to be expected & I do acknowledge this is beyond the control of the hotel. Maybe a prod to the local cop to try to control the speed of the tankers and other heavy traffic early morning would help. If I stayed again I would try to get the cabins at the back of the hotel or a rear room in the hotel.

Accommodation was beautifully kept and spacious with lots of interesting information about the history of the place and what to do. The breakfast was a good choice of cereal, breads and hard-boiled eggs or cheese with plenty of tea, coffee and juice. The evening menu in the 'pub' are was good and the food well cooked and tasty. The best thing of all was the staff. Everyone was approachable, friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. There is a suggestion box for employee of the month that must be impossible to choose! We had a toddler with us who was made welcome at all times, a great place for families. Parking was free.
We were not prepared for the mosquitoes and sandfire flies that were plentiful on the west coast. The latter were around in the outside eating areas in the evening, although staff did pull the plastic sheeting down to try and stop them. Next time we will take some insect repellent with us.

We stayed in one of the miners cabins which were spacious and very comfortable. Very enjoyable dinner in the pub which was warm and friendly. Laundry facilities were good. We weren't cycling, but we could imagine it would be a great stop - lots of bike storage. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Make sure you see the glow worms jus at the back of the miners cottages.
