Sunset Roost-the Perfect Nest for Yosemite-Private Hot Tub
About this house rental
Located in Sierra Nevada, this charming house for R 4,693 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Whether you are looking for a peaceful mountain getaway or trying to find lodging near Yosemite National Park, Sunset Roost is the perfect choice! The Sunset Roost offers quiet solitude in a beautiful foothill setting. The Sunset Roost is a three bedroom, two-bath manufactured home that has been fully renovated inside and out. It is tastefully decorated throughout. Sunset Roost is designed for adults as a non-smoking property. Artwork from local artists adorns every room and spills into the Outdoor Living Room and gardens. And the sunset view is what you will always remember! An open floor plan invites interaction throughout the living area. The large peninsula counter separates the kitchen from the dining area and provides plenty of prep space for creating meals or picnic lunches to take into Yosemite. It’s also a great place for breakfast before you head out for the day. This opens into the living room, which truly is a room with a view! A leather sofa and love seat face one another and look out over the deck towards the Merced River Canyon. The futon day-bed is the perfect place to lounge and enjoy the view (it is also a double bed). Each of the three bedrooms has a character of its own. The master bedroom is outfitted with a king sized bed with a down comforter. There is a large bathtub and separate shower in the master bath, as well as double sinks. The second and third bedrooms are located on the opposite end of the house adjacent to the second bathroom. Both have queen size beds with down comforters. The Wildflower Room has a tall sleigh bed and colorful photography from the surrounding foothills and high country. The Half Dome Room has a low platform bed to allow full view from its second (west facing) window. Local art depicting Yosemite’s most recognizable icon adorns the walls. Enter the Outdoor Living Room through either of the glass doors onto the deck. Defined mostly by the 800 square foot redwood deck and hot tub, you will find yourself spending considerable quality time out here. Outdoor meals are wonderful with the evening breeze and unobstructed sunset views. The deck table seats six. Cook outside on the propane BBQ while you relax on a pair of chaise lounges. It is a bit hard to say where the Outdoor Living Room ends and the yard begins. A lush green lawn invites you to spend your afternoon in the shade of the pines relaxing in the hammock. The gardens are filled with flowers, herbs, and native plants which keep the birds, bees and butterflies happy. Wildlife is abundant at The Roost. You may see deer, bobcat, birds, fox, turkey, peacocks, squirrels, raccoons, and bats. The Sunset Roost offers all the comforts of home. Whether your idea of vacationing involves cooking gourmet meals or take-n-bake pizza, the full amenity kitchen has everything you will need. The home theater system includes a high quality Onkyo Dolby Digital surround sound receiver, DVD player and UHD TV. Wireless DSL is provided. Of course there are plenty of pillows and blankets to keep you comfortable. The washer and dryer are available if you’re on an extended holiday. The Sunset Roost is conveniently located in the community of Midpines, California along the Highway 140 corridor. It is a 25-mile drive to the Yosemite National Park boundary along the “all weather highway” which follows the Wild and Scenic Merced River (it is 37 miles to Yosemite Village from the Roost). The gold rush town of Mariposa is 10 miles to the West. Merced is 45 miles, and the Fresno airport is a 90-minute drive. The Merced River Recreation Area (Briceburg) is less than 7 miles away. There is plenty to do in the area. Most visitors will go into Yosemite, but some, who seek solitude, will be quite satisfied to avoid the crowds. The historic town of Mariposa offers shops, restaurants, groceries, gas and supplies. Outdoor recreation abounds! Whitewater Rafting and kayaking are excellent in the spring. Birding, hiking, fishing, swimming, sunbathing, mountain biking, and gold panning are popular along the Merced River and in The Park. Yosemite is a Mecca for rock climbers from around the world! There is something for everyone to do while staying at the Sunset Roost, even if you never leave the property. We, the owners of the Sunset Roost, have lived here since 2000 and have explored much of the region. We are available to answer questions about our area. What a quiet, awesome gem. The kind you don’t want to tell anyone about, but that would be selfish! From the location at the end of a dirt road to the magnificent sunrise over the mountains and valley, the whole experience was perfect. CLEAN is an understatement - we appreciated it so much! Walking barefoot on those dark wood(like) floors is one of my favorite things! Cooking was a breeze with all the pots, pans, knives, etc.
The hot tub is one of our favorite things - clean water, HOT and an amazing view to boot.
The owners are SO NICE and you can feel their hearts and good intentions in everything.
10 out of 10!! Thank you :-)

We stayed at the Sunset Roost for two nights while exploring Yosemite. We loved the outdoor space and hot tub to relax after hiking all day! Looking at the stars in the hot tub with a glass of wine was the perfect end to the day! The beds were comfortable and the shower was great! David and Tracy had everything we needed to make our stay like being at home! Their house is well kept, organized, and decorated with local art. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing space off the beaten path!

We enjoyed our stay at the sunset roost. The deck, hammock & hot tub were great. Beautiful nature (turkeys!) & conveniently located near Yosemite. Hosts provided a cooler, which was appreciated. Washer & dryer are convenient. There was a box fan that we used on the deck to keep mosquitoes away.
Things to be aware of…Very bumpy ride on the shared road, and only wide enough for one vehicle. Nearest grocery is 20 minutes away. Ant problem in the shower of the second bathroom. Outlets were not conveniently located. Food storage containers would be a welcome addition to the kitchen.
Overall, it was a good stay and comfortable property. There were 4 adults and 2 teens in our party, and plenty of room.

The owners care so much about their guests, and it really really shows. This was our second stay at The Roost!!! We love it!!!!

Great house for visiting Yosemite. Close enough to town to purchase groceries and visit restaurants, but far enough from town to have peace and quiet. About 45 minutes to the Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite NP which ended up being less crowded than the South Entrance which was about an hour and ten minutes away. The host was great to help us with recommendations at Yosemite. The outdoor area at the house was fantastic. Sunsets were great, and the hottub was nice after a long day of hiking and exploring the park. We actually saw more wildlife at the house than at the park itself.

This property was a great find. The house and grounds are located in the Midpines forest, with a beautiful view from the back deck. The interior is completely updated and spotless. It looks like a new home. David and Tracy are welcoming hosts. Communication is excellent and everything is explained very well. Location is perfect for people who are doing day trips into Yosemite. It’s about 35 miles to the 140 entrance into the park. Very easy drive. Would definitely stay here again!

This is a very comfortable house in a wonderful location. The house itself is well setup with comfortable and well appointed lounge, bedrooms and kitchen. The deck, hot tub and outdoor shower are fantastic. Sunset views and stargazing were incredible. The location is excellent, being very peaceful and private while also being only a short drive to town and Yosemite. The hosts were great communicators and check in/out was easy. Would definitely stay again

Our stay far exceeded our expectations. The house is spotless with beautiful property to wonder. We loved sitting in the hot tub as the bats and stars started to appear. It was so quiet and had the most amazing view. The beds and furniture are very comfortable and I don’t think I have ever used softer towels. The owners have done an amazing job and we hope to stay again soon.

From pre-book to checkout, everything was excellent. Owner communicated superbly, answered all our questions leading up to and during our trip quickly and with excellent suggestions. Plenty of space for the family (5 of us), decor was welcoming, kitchen supplies more than adequate for our cooking needs, VERY quiet area, lots of wildlife, and you can’t beat a mountaintop hot tub. Even with the rockslide closing the main road to Yosemite, we made the best of our stay visiting the Merced River and Mariposa and just hanging around the house. Was a wonderful way to celebrate a special birthday with the family. Hope to be able to spend time at the park next visit.

The home was much larger inside than it appeared on the outside and the kitchen was clean and well stocked!
We loved the back deck! The hot tub, wildlife viewing and star gazing is just what we needed after a long day of hiking!

On the inside I was impressed by the level of detail put in to the cleanliness of the home. It seemed like every corner and crack was free of dirt/dust which is hard to come by these days.
We enjoyed every afternoon & evening on the back porch and walking the surrounding area soaking up nature, wildlife, and of course the beautiful sunsets!

Had an amazing stay. Was the perfect place to unwind after a difficult 18+ mile hike in Yosemite, the hot tub was a life saver! Had everything we needed. Saw deer, turkeys, hummingbirds and lizards. Only used 2 rooms but the beds were comfortable and the home was clean. The sunsets from the deck were truly amazing. Would love to make a return trip to the Sunset Roost.

2nd time we have rented this property and we were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately though there was a major power outage during our stay which meant we couldn’t make full use of the facilities.
Tracy did provide us with emergency lights and power blocks to charge our phones. Because of the outage there were no lights so stars at night were really spectacular.

4th Epic stay at the roost
This was my 4th time at the roost. To say the least - that it is a magical place - would be an understatement. I had not been here since 2018 when the fires broke out. Tracy and David continue to keep up, and provide the single best experience in a Yosemite visit that anyone could ask for. All the comforts of our previous stays were there - comfortable beds, inviting hot tub, wild turkeys greeting us for breakfast, cool breezes coming up the valley in the setting hours of the sun, breathtaking sun sunsets behind the mountain vista off the back porch, private and secluded to enjoy your own thoughts and contemplate things in your life. I met my brother in law for a 6 day epic trip hiking all the top trails. We did it all - and the enjoyment of coming home after hiking a long day to the roost was something we looked forward to every evening. This trip was simply life changing for my brother - a first time visitor to Yosemite. I'm so very grateful that we were able to stay here as this amazing home is usually pre-booked up for a year in the summer. If you are considering staying here - just do it - you may not get another chance for the trip of a lifetime.
