We had an amazing trip! All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful

Far from the noise and hectic life in San Pedro, you have Matachica. Inside the grounds, it is calm and peaceful, with stand alone beautiful casitas. The staff is amazing and friendly, and everything was immaculate. Since you were far from everything, you wanted a golf cart to explore, and maybe get to other restaurants. We gave it 5 stars, but the service missed the mark. When we asked for suggestions to rent gold cars, they simply said Google it and look at the reviews. Suspect they had some bad experiences, but would expect more. The service in the casual restaurant was very slow, and the servers were not tuned into checking with the guests to see how it was going. One night we moved from our table to the bar, and were immediately served. They did nice little things like a Super Bowl party and sweets for Valentine’s Day. We were not formally advised about bag pickup and departure time…had to ask at the desk. Overall, would stay again.

We had a (relatively) good time at this resort. Everyone was super nice and friendly except the front desk people. We found one of their front desk staff to be extremely rude and abrasive towards us at the end of our stay that it really left us with a sour taste in our mouth. She was dismissive and abrasive to both my husband and me. I’d like to think that for a four star resort, which we stayed for 2 weeks, that this wouldn’t be the case but disappointed. Ruined the end of our trip and not okay!

The location is beautiful and the resort just blends into a charming oasis. All of the staff is friendly and super helpful. The food and drinks are incredible! We had an amazing sunrise snorkeling experience arranged by Edgar and guided by Henry to Hol Chan and Shark Alley. Absolutely will be back!

We had a top-notch experience at Matachica, from booking to check-out! Egar was extremely helpful in planning excursions with us, and we truly loved our interactions with the whole staff! They really went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. I actually cried saying goodbye to Matachica! Much love for Julio, Jennifer (thanks for the shell for our daughter!), Henry for the awesome excursion, all the transportation guys and housekeeping for such a delightful experience! The spa was relaxing and lovely, the restaurant and drinks were delicious! Love Danny’s Tree Bar. Truly a wonderful experience all around and if we didn’t miss our kids so much, we would have extended our stay!

The cottages are super cute and the attention to detail is exceptional. I only wish we had a fridge in our room

All in all, it’s the best property on the island.
1. The only drawback with the rooms is that the bathroom area is separated from the bedroom and that area has no air-conditioning. the bathroom area is just sweltering hot.
2. The beach is beautiful, but this resort, like all the others that face East has fallen prey to the black plague of the sargassum, seaweed. They literally send half a dozen guys out every morning to remove a dozen dump truck loads of the stuff from the beach but by the time they get to the end of the beach, the day is over and it is already started to accumulate back behind them where they started in the morning. It’s just a nightmare and the smell is Like rotting fish. It’s just awful. And the stench sometimes permeates the entire property. But the resort was the only resort on the island even made an attempt at cleaning it up. in seven days, we never saw a single person use the beach, due to the smell of the seaweed.
3. The food and the drinks are really good but about double the price you would pay anywhere else on the island. My suggestion is to rent a Golf cart, and explore all the dining places. The best for us was Rum Dog right on the water.
4. The town of San Pedro is simply not very nice. Compared to a St. Kitts or St. Barts. It’ a slum with only handful of restaurants that are worth eating at.
5. We are done spending our hard-earned money on resorts that are subject to the seaweed plague which is now bigger than the entire US cont.

We stayed here for a week over 4th of July and had the best time! The casitas are so cute and cozy. When we landed at the airport, we rented a golf cart in San Pedro and drove to the resort. They welcomed us with a drink and showing us to our room. Every morning we had breakfast at the restaurant next to the beautiful beach. There is a free continental breakfast (fruit and pastry - the pastries were amazing) or a full menu which is also yummy! The pool and beach are both beautiful. They have people shoveling away the seaweed from the beach all day. Matchicha at is ~30 min to San Pedro but it didn’t feel that long on the golf cart - it was fun! That was the one thing we were nervous about booking this place but the distance wasn’t an issue as long as you rent a golf cart. It’s also close to secret beach which was nice. We didn’t book any tours or anything through the resort - we booked boat tours and a food tour through companies in San Pedro. We had an amazing time! My one tip would be to bring a sleeping eye mask because the curtains let the light in at 6am and it’s soooo bright. But we didn’t mind because we generally went to bed pretty early and it was nice to wake up early and have a full day. We loved it here! Relaxing was the word of the trip. I couldn’t believe how relaxed we felt the whole time! Loved it

This resort is 10/10.
Absolutely wonderful staff, amazing views and clean property. We enjoyed our anniversary and my birthday trip here. The staff were all amazing and very friendly. This was my first time to Belize and I am so glad that I picked this resort. We enjoyed complimentary coffee to our room every morning.
We look forward to returning and visiting Matachica along with their sister resort Gaya in the near future.

Matachica was the best place we’ve ever stayed. Not only was the property amazing but the service was as well. It’s located outside of the town but only a 15 min ride to secret beach and 30 min to downtown. There are 2 restaurants on site that serve delicious dinner. I would definitely stay here again. I felt like I was at a 5 star resort the entire time

Needed a TV in the room, treadmill in fitness center. More variety in the menus.

Gorgeous property with stunning views. Everything you need is located right on the property. Food is superb! Property is quite away from town so if you like to explore off property keep this in mind.

Terrible!!! We were never told there was seaweed on the beach and could not use the beach. We paid $500/night and could not use the beach!!! No refunds... terrible management. No vibe.. no atmosphere...

The private lodging was perfect and the staff and food at the resort were tops (the baked goods were scrumptious). The snorkeling trips run by the resort were also excellent and the service and transportation were all impeccable.

We loved our snorkel excursions thru Matachica. One of my memorable experiences was the arrival. We were picked up from Tropic Air by golf cart, super fun, whisked off to a 20 minute boat ride to the resort and welcomed by super friendly staff. Not once did we touch our luggage and it was delivered to our room. What service! We enjoyed the pool and the breads at the Bistro were made in house, delicious.

Beautifully designed property with all the right details. It’s a bit of a bumpy road to get there but the place really is paradise. Lovely staff, calm vibes, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach. Their breakfast and brunch were amazing as well.

We loved our stay here and overall exceeded our expectations. As someone from a time zone 2 hrs later and also an early riser, I would have appreciated a coffee maker in the room. That’s my only suggestion - there is no food or coffee option before 6:30am. Also, I would plan on renting a golf cart for the week from somewhere in town. You are a solid 30 min golf cart ride to San Pedro, and it gets pretty expensive to rent a golf cart daily from the resort.

My 2 friends and I decided to take a girls trip to San Pedro and stayed at Matachica. The staff was amazing upon arrival. Everything was smooth and we were situated quickly. The issues started the first night with geckos running around the room and loud noise coming from the roof all night. The next day the maintenance men found a large iguana in the roof. The next night the same sound could be heard and the next day there was another iguana in the roof found by the maintenance men. The 3rd night the same noise occurred. I did not sleep for those 3 nights. On the 4th night and last night, after many complaints, they finally decided to switch our room. In the new room there was a lizard in the trash. Layer that night we heard a similar but louder sound in the roof. Safe to say I did not sleep the entire vacation due to fear of things crawling on me.
Besides the accommodations of the room and the expensive food and tours, everything was lovely. The staff was very kind and attentive. Charlie was the best tour guide. We took 2 tours with him and couldn’t have asked for a better host.
I wish we could have been accommodated more instead of just switching to another room on the last night and getting a free drink. I will not be back and unfortunately would not recommend this place to anyone!

The property is very very nice. We will not be coming back until the road to town and secret beach is repaired. Not fixing these roads is ruining your tourist traffic.

We had an amazing time at Matachica. All the staff greeted us by name and were exceptionally friendly which only added to the quality of our visit. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the food wonderful, etc. I can't praise or recommend Matachica highly enough.

First off, the resort was gorgeous and the staff were friendly.
The policies on the other had were not. All prices at Matachica are in USD and then add GST and "service fees", which adds ~27% to everything. Most of the island lists prices in Belizian dollars which are half a US dollar, and most other locations include GST/etc in the listed price.
All the activities from the resort are more expensive than booking yourself by as much as 50%, for no really added value.
The rooms do not get "dark", since the only curtain that faces where the sun rises is translucent. Expect to wake up at dawn when the sun assaults your eyes. They also are perpetually sandy, but that's due to proximity to the beach.
Do not let the "free breakfast" fool you, like it fooled us and others, it is only one item on the list, and it is not called out on the menu. If you deviate from that, expect to spend closer to us$50 for breakfast for 2 ($12 each breakfast, $6 per drink, plus GST, plus service, etc).
The road is more potholes than road, and with the frequent rain, full of water. Riding the bikes provided by the hotel is an exciting challenge of how wet and dirty can you get. Riding in golf carts (rent from in town for half price, compared to the resort) is also a test of fortitude and spinal compression. If you venture off the main road to secret beach, know that road is somehow worse.

This resort is very nice. The food is amazing, they even freshly bake their breads and pastries every day. Staff are super nice and accommodating. I would recommend!
