i didn't like it because i didn't get to stay there i cdn't check in as the hotel was closed pathetic we had to book in at another hotel which cost £140 which i expect you to reimburse as there was a breach of contract

Hotel was ok , service check in was all good , parking was a bonus , The hotel location is great , in the centre of town. Breakfast was good. The thing that let the hotel down was on one of the coldest days of the year the heating in the room didn't work so we were freezing cold.

Location of the hotel was perfect as just outside from the Town Square. Check in was nice and informative. The room was spacious, very clean well presented.
No issues throughout the stay.
We had breakfast included, and the food was good, it was shame that there was not a big variety in options.
A few guests did complain of noise from across the road on the Saturday night but we did not hear this.

Warm and friendly welcome. The décor is like a stately home which I liked and is a nice change from the usual. The place seems in need of repairs though and in the first room I had, the toilet didn't flush. I was changed to another room and on the second night I came back to find there had been a leak from above onto the bedside table and lamp and all down the wall. Also the curtain ties needed replacing, the lever on the tap was missing as was the sink plug and the glass of the toothbrush holder. The breakfast was nice although there was no decaf and the sausage was basic. It is very well located right next to the historic main square although it was rather loud on the Saturday evening because of the music from a bar on that road. Overall it was fine for the price, good service and breakfast.

Overall was pretty disappointed considering it cost us over £120 for one night.
The check-in process was non-existent, the restaurant was closed so we were left waiting outside on the street until someone could come and let us in (not sure why it was closed, we arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening).
The room was really tired with lots of things not working (batteries in remote control, curtain pulls etc.) - it feels like it hasn't been updated in about 30 years.
There was a weird smell (slightly sewagey) in the bathroom, and the room was REALLY noisy - there is a bar right across the road that plays really loud music until 2am, and the door to the corridor has absolutely no soundproofing, so you can hear everything that goes on.
Finally, and most importantly, the mattress was really uncomfortable - they've clearly tried to extend its life by adding a mattress topper/futon, but it's really uncomfortable to sleep on.

Nice room but unpractical entrance town suite low door and step in .
Breakfast paid for but never taken as was too early

Room 5 seems to have been a shop previously owing to lots of window, thankfully now frosted. Breakfast was good, coffee especially good. Parking was a real bonus.

nice staff and good room for what we paid

This was a very dated hotel, there was a lot of small things that added up. The check in process was to be handed a card and some vague directions, we then had to go back as "there is a knack" to opening the door she then demonstrated, ripped and old furniture out side the door. A shower that the door bangs on the sink when you open it. No hair dryer. We woke in the morning- early becouse the broken blind let in all the light with no idea what time breakfast was, this isnt on the web site, no welcome pack in the room and as stated it was more of been handed a card as check in. So becouse there was only 2 small sachets of milk in the room for tea making and 1 glass we went out to a coffee shop to get a drink, we then couldnt get back in the building becouse the swipe to the out side door didnt work, after 10 minutes of trying it and knocking we went back out for another coffee untill there was life in the place. On our return it appeared breakfast was running so we went in to the restaurant and were told there was no option for a cooked breakfast it was just if you wanted one, so we had one but it was a poor and limited breakfast, 1 sausage 1 egg dont like beans so they were left, no tomatoes ect no choice of fruit juice just orange, tea was stewed in a comunal pot no choice of other teas. There were some good points the bed was comfortable and the location was great but for the cost £175 per night would not return

A very old building which makes it interesting but challenging and somewhat dates. Lovely breakfast!

Room not very clean, not vacuumed at all, see photos. Spa bath didn’t work. Strange kitchen in room, tatty old furnishings. No wardrobes or even a hanger? Two old sofas outside in the carpark. Breakfast was average choice of fry up or bacon sandwich, is what i was offered, tea ,coffee , orange juice, butter and condiments on a table to help yourself, no glass for juice.
All in all not worth 83 pounds

On arrival to the room there was mechanical equipment left on the floor and a dirty mug left in the sink. Overall cleanliness was not of a high standard

The checkin needs changing we stood outside the property in the rain for more than 5mins untill someone answered the door checkin was slow and arduous the room was clean but very dated the breakfast was good the hotel is in a good location and Hitchin is a nice town.

The room was lovely and large with a kitchenette, and microwave, but no crockery or cutlery! The toilet cistern was boxed into the wall, but it was not complete so it was very untidy. No shower curtain, was afraid of flooding the bathroom

I booked this hotel last minute as I was let down by another hotel. On arrival, the receptionist was friendly. I literally put my belongings in the room and went straight out for dinner. When I returned just after 11pm, I went to my room but was unable to gain access. I went to the front of the hotel to try to gain access, I called the phone number approx 20 times to no avail. I banged on the door but no-one came. I eventually had to sleep on my Son's sofa as I had no car key with me either. I returned in the morning to be told that he had been sat in the room but didnt hear me and his phone was on the shelf so he didnt hear it!!! I said that I hoped he wasnt expecting me to pay to which he responded he was expecting payment. When I told him I was not happy he said as long as I didnt have breakfast I could get a refund. It has taken me nearly 3 weeks to get a refund. I have since read the reviews , I think this hotel should be removed from the website, appalling!!!

The room was clean. The bathroom widow didn’t shut properly so was freezing. The wardrobe was set in the wall, it was too high for us to hang any of our clothes. The air conditioning didn’t work properly. Beds were comfy. Breakfast was average. It wasn’t worth the money I paid which was £121.21 for a twin room.

Lovely room, very old fashioned with four poster bed but we loved this and it was comfortable and really quirky. Bathroom was a bit cold and the hot water didn’t last long enough to fill the large bath! Breakfast was only offered between 8 and 9 which wasn’t convenient so even though this was part of the room price we didn’t have breakfast. On the day of check out, someone came to the door twice from 9:30 am when I was working in the room and I told them on both occasions that I would be out at the check out time of 11 am. Other than that very quirky hotel and convenient for Hitchin town centre.

It was easy to find and the minimal contact we had with people who worked in the hotel was pleasant, however the keycard to get into our room was faulty and we couldn’t get hold of anyone to change it. Breakfast was ok, basic with no choices offered, however for the price was good.

Poor service on arrival, room charming but door entry system unreliable. Breakfast Ok but little choice. Ok for a one night stay and ideally located in the centre of town. Would probably stay somewhere else next time

Just an overnight stay, very happy with the accommodation, lovely English breakfast and would happily book again if coming back this way

Traditional hotel with some character. Decent parking if a little tight getting through ginnel. Wi-fi good. The one woman breakfast server / cook turned up late on day one so too late for breakfast before work. Good location for town centre and next door to Witherspoons so amenities close by. For work / short stay the accommodation is fine.

The family room was not fit for purpose. The stairs up to the bathroom were a hazard to our toddler and the bathroom in the eaves was unusable to anyone over 5ft. Comfortable beds but dirty carpets and bathroom. Very limited breakfast options but what was served was nice enough. Staff were very friendly.

We had to have a change of room as first room had a problem with wasps but second room was nice.

Quite a disappointing one nights stay I must say. The entry door card lock was temperamental at best and required multiple attempts to access the building.
The room was old and in need of an update. Stained curtains, old and worn chairs but most concerning was the mould in the bathroom and the fact the balcony door wouldn’t close properly.. oh and no internal lock on the entrance door to the room.
The bed was rather small for an “executive room”. Not recommended for anyone over 6 foot!
Breakfast was ok and the coffee was good, free parking in a town centre is great and the staff were friendly.
This is a small town restaurant & hotel so there is no 24hr staff available. The following morning, to make my concerns known, I called the mobile number taped to the restaurant door and sent them a few photos showing the issues in the room. Although they were very apologetic when I first called, I’m disappointed to say that they didn’t follow up with me after I sent the photos through. I did show the issues to one of the staff who I randomly bumped into when leaving but would hoped the boss would respond too.
I don’t like leaving negative reviews but this prime location hotel is tired and in need of TLC and probably a better cleaning checklist.

Advertises a kitchen and microwave. No pots or plates or cutlery provided. Asked at the bar and was informed NO food allowed in rooms. Bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast didn’t start til 8am. We were on the road at 7.30. Staff not very professional. Will definitely NOT be staying again. Having the kitchen was one of the reasons we booked so that we didn’t have to get ready and go out for dinner after a full day of travelling. Very angry. I have emailed them requesting refund but not had a reply yet.
