Friendly BUT, toilet tank, though it did not leak water on the floor, kept filling because the stopper did not close completely; broken glass beer bottles were in the parking area and driveway, having to be manuvered around; refrigerator was noisy. There was only one chair in the room, leaving only the beds to sit upon.
Bed was acceptable.
All in all, it was a place to sleep. Free breakfast was sparse: juice dispenser present but nonfunctional; for coffee drinkers: one air pot which was not kept full.
Totally understaffed, but those encountered were very friendly.
Dates of stay were March 11 to 14 (Monday-Thursday)

Nice hotel. Kitchenette is not a real kitchen. Just a small fridge freezer and a microwave. Couldn't get TV to work correctly it they said today they would get it working. They did offer to switch out to a new room but the wife was a sleep already. Very spacious and bed is comfortable.

Had to change room three times in order to get a room with a TV that worked

Only reason for four stars overall instead of five is due to hot water issue at the time of stay. Owners were exceptional and the free breakfast was too!

Great improvements on the motel

Guy at counter was great. Room was just ok. Its Econolodge so expectations were not high, but... reasons for the low review: dead bugs/roaches all over the floor (guess should be happy they were dead?). Pool drained and full of dirt, grounds very unappealing. Security bolt on door broken. No breakfast. In hindsight, spend a little more for a Comfort/Quality Inn or Best Western... trust me!

I picked this Econolodge location in Carlsbad, NM because, #1 location, #2 price and #3 free breakfast. When I arrived to check-in at 10:00pm, I was told there was no free breakfast and that was a mistake on the part of Expedia that had been going on for several years. I was told there was nothing they could could about it. At that late hour, they suggested I stay somewhere else if I wanted. It was far too late for that. Then, once we got to our room, the toilet was extremely dirty and had a nasty ring at least a month old. I will never use Econolodge again - and probably not Expedia either.

They state they have a continental breakfast, nut once you get to the hotel the breakfast is "closed until further notice". Change it on any booking apps.
Room definitely had upgrades and looked good. But floor still had spots on it, didnt look clean, there were pieces of wrappers from the toiletries left from a previous stay. Bugs, dead bugs all over the floor by the door.

Nice sized room, well laid out. Plenty of power/USB sockets. Big bed very comfy, no sound proofing, could hear every word from people next door. No breakfast or swimming pool available. Big gaps around the blinds letting in lots of light, could be a privacy issue for some.

No breakfast offered. The staff was awful. I requested extra pillow and blanket and never received it. Front desk attendant ignored me. Felt unsafe.

Guy at the front was... different... couldn't find my reservation. Checked both my husband's and my id to make sure we weren't local because apparently they don't allow locals to stay? They have been refurbishing, so it looks nice until you look close. Paint drips all over the floor, our sink didn't work and the only other room offered smelled like a bar. Online offers breakfast, but breakfast wasn't an option "until further notice"... it was spring break and our airbnb fell through so this was a last resort. Bed was very firm, hair all in the sheets... didn't notice that until morning.

The staff was friendly, and the room was clean, but that’s about as many nice things as I can say about it. The room was VERY outdated, like 60s design, breakfast has been cancelled indefinitely, and the pool was drained for the winter. I had booked a room based on those two factors, so my kids were pretty disappointed. I was a little concerned about our safety, but it was a quiet stay and we weren’t bothered by anyone.

The location was good (close to the caverns and Guadalupe National Park). The room was comfortable but the area around the hotel had trash all around it. Breakfast was advertised but it was not available.

No breakfast, though it was advertised as offering breakfast. Graffitti on the INSIDE of the door. Dead cockroach on the floor in the morning. No carafe in the coffee pot. Multiple non-working lights. Brown stains on bathroom floor and ceiling. Phone broken. TV remote didn't work. Heating unit very loud.

No breakfast. The coffee in the room was horrible. No tv remote in the room and the worker had to look for one. We couldn’t get the volume to work on the tv so we could barely hear it. Bedspread had a cigarette burn. Mirrors were dirty.

I liked smoking on the porch and the safe invironment.
I did not like the dead pool in front of me making mosquitos. Also, I needed that breakfast bar and that is why I chose Econolodge

I understand that the world is still dealing with Covid among other viruses, but there is a way to keep the breakfast at hotels. I been to a few that are still serving. Also, as for the pool... If kept clean there's no reason for them to still be closed. All in all this is a new, economical hotel for it's location and the front desk staff are extremely polite and couldn't do enough for me. I'm 62 years old and slightly handicapped and the young ladys were always willing to assist me. The cleaning staff may be older people, but they are efficient and friendly.
The only real problem, as I found with most hotels is no one ever checks the air conditioning filters. I took the one in my room out and cleaned it and the room got a lot more comfortable.

Price was ok. I live in Carlsbad but my a/c and cable was out and had been in Texas the last month and a half was looking for a good nights rest. Mattress was old and noisy a/c unit loud and only worked on 1 speed. Phone in unit but no cord to use TV had o be turned on manually and set remot worked once I had new batteries but would not turn off. Bathroom was a joke the shower didn’t work and the knob broke off in my hand. It had to be the worst stay of my life

2 roaches, 1 spider, 3 unknown, and 1 giant horse fly. The Fire Security was GONE, wires were hanging out. The doorknob was entirely missing leaving a 2.5" hole to the neighboring room.

we had to have our room changed it smelled like smoke, there were flies and no light in the bathroom. The other room got had no safety latch on the door, still flies and the TV didnt work. The pool was dirty and no breakfast in the morning as advertised

Had the worse experience at this hotel. The first room, the toilet didn’t work. They moved us to 3 other rooms. 2 of them smelled so bad there was flies all in the rooms. I was done and asked for a refund. They said they couldn’t I had to call Expedia. So I did and Expedia was real quick to refund me.

Room had many issues. Grimy would be a good word to describe it. Tolerable for a night.

Avoid staying here. Our room's smoke detector was disassembled, the security bar on the door was missing, the vent in the bathroom didn't have a cover, and I had to go to the front counter to get a roll of toilet paper because we didn't even have a full roll to start. We left a night early because we couldn't stand to stay more than one night. We only stayed the one night because we had nowhere else to go. The pool wasn't open and the breakfast that was supposed to be included wasn't available.

Had a couple of small problems but, the staff was super helpful in resolving the problems we endometriosis.

didn't like lack of amenities listed in ads.

I was shocked by the overall condition of this hotel. They were not serving breakfast either. The sign saying that locals were not allowed to stay at this hotel was unsettling. The door to the room did not fit the frame well at all, so flies were able to come and go as they pleased. The pool was empty and not available. It looked like a great pool but will never know.

Pictures made it look nicer than it was.

The property and room is about what you'd expect from one of the cheapest motels in Carlsbad. The most disappointing thing is that it is advertised as having a pool and free breakfast - two things that made us choose this hotel over other options. They do have a pool but apparently the maintenance person has refused to clean and open the pool after winter. They also do not have breakfast at the moment, citing that they came out of their Covid protocols about a month prior to our stay and had not had a chance to open it back up.
Overall it's not a bad place for the price if they would only correctly advertise what amenities they have. As it is having to change plans for breakfasts was fairly inconvenient.
