Nice wee old schoo hotel full of character. Excellent breakfast. Warm and comfortable.

Everything was fine except no convenient parking during the day

Room was freezing and radiators required bleeding as air trapped. I mentioned to receptionist however instead of getting someone to fix she just wrote it in a book.
I’d got chilled at work so would have appreciated some warmth in room. Rest of Hotel was warm

Misleading photos. The first room we were given was very dated and the tv didn’t work, second room was more up to date but not very clean. The restaurant cleanliness and food was also not very good.

Sheets looked dirty pillows all different shades of white.
Shower had serious problems went scalding hot then ice cold over and over.
5.0
Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Unfortunately the shower in our room (room 3) would not get warm no matter what we tried or how long we waited, so we had to resort to a stand up wash.
We would stay again though, hopefully with a hot shower next time!

Quiet, clean, warm , comfortable room and excellent breakfast.

Last minute booking due to cancelled ferries on a cold and windy night.
Room was very cold as heating was off and old sash windows rattling in the wind.
It did warm up once the radiator was on, but was still cold.
Staff very pleasant and helpful when we asked for blankets.
Breakfast was fine and plentiful.
Parking outside is time restricted which meant we had to move our car a couple of times.
Apart from the temperature, the stay was fine and value for money.

No hot water in the morning for a shower. The property is dated and in need of repair in some areas.

Room small but nicely decorated. However no mirror in room, and plastic sheets on bed?? Very uncomfortable! I’ve stayed here a few times before and it’s always been fine but I won’t be back

It was fine thanks

Large rooms that were somewhat dated . No shampoo or conditioner and floorboards in the room creaked badly.
Reception and restaurant staff friendly however bar staff no so. Bed was comfortable but lots of noise from street late at night.

Booked a superior room based on website description and received inadequate, outdated without basic amenities such as shampoo and conditioner. Very disappointed.

The hotel was very tired and in need of complete renovation.
The bathroom was shabby with mould growing around the bath
The carpet was covered in stains, we would not consider staying there again.

Breakfast dried out
Chips soggy
Lemon sorbet artificial flavour
Road outside used as a race track till 3am
Decoration very tired
No electric plug by bed

Rooms noisy with traffic, rooms dated and tired, food reasonably good, not enough staff to serve alcohol at meal times, the young girls serving food cannot serve drinks,

Great overnight stop before catching ferry. Staff very helpful and friendly.

A bit old and tired for the price. Food was good.

Our stay was fine. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The food was OK. Decor was a bit dated but it is an old hotel (circa 1900).

The service was shocking - it took staff 40 minutes to take my order. After 20 minutes my starter arrived and I was then asked did I want to order dessert! I asked if I could have my main meal first. It took 2.5 hours to have a starter and a main. Hotel is clean enough but very tired and in need of refurbishment. I am frequently in this area for work and unfortunately my usual hotel was full so I thought I would give Pentland a chance but I will not be back!!!

Average hotel food a little below average ok if nothing else

No complaints.Friendly staff and clean.

Very narrow bed for a double. Had to ask for bedside lights with staff member arguing that there were lamps there, (there wasn’t).

parking wasn't great

Room had lovely high ceilings and was very clean. Solid dinner at the pub and an excellent buffet breakfast included. Parking is an issue unless you are happy to leave before 9am (no onsite carpark, 1 hour max between 8am-6pm on the road). The rooms are also very outdated and smaller than I expected, and really do need modernising for the £ that is being charged. Overall was okay for a night, but would not return.

Gorgeous hotel with excellent breakfast. Quite luxurious for the price. Convenient for the train-to-ferry connection we were making.

The Pentland hotel was fine for a one night stay. Our room was clean and tidy, but we felt the hotel, overall, was a bit tired and dated. Overall, it was good value for money, with a good cooked breakfast on offer.

A Friendly hotel, pleasant staff. Excellent evening meal. Room comfortable. Not a great cooked breakfast-plates stone called, haggis also cold and bacon tough

This hotel was not good, our room had a roasting radiator with the thermostat broken and lying on the floor so windows had to be open to control heat so disturbed by traffic. Radiator in bathroom didn’t work, no hot water in shower. Advised reception told it would be dealt with returned later to no evidence of anything being repaired. Reception said we could move room this one was slightly better. Breakfast was dreadful and over cooked. Second morning we ate breakfast out. Staff were not very friendly or helpful and the hotel just looked tired it is in need of an upgrade. Overall disappointed.

Room was clean....needed attention to bathroom eg no toilet toll holder and wall where old radiator had been and all windows were blown and difficult to look out

Having stayed in the Pentland before it was nice to get a renovated room. There was slight problem with the TV in the room which I raised with the staff, they tried to resolve the issue but to no avail.
I was offered another room but I was very happy with everything else and the TV was not a big issue for my stay.
Everything else during my stay was spot on, friendly and always helpful staff, comfortable well equipped room, good wifi & quiet both inside & outwith the hotel

The check in process was easy, the lady on the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and equipped with everything we needed for out stay. The bed was very small for a double though. Breakfast was a buffet had everything we needed but there wasn't enough to go around all the guests of the cooked items.

This hotel is quite worn and even grubby in places, but there are not a lot of lodging or dining options in Thurso, and the attached restaurant for dinner and breakfast is good. The Pentland is conveniently located near the train station and an atmospheric church; we had a wonderful view. Be advised that if you're taking a ferry to or from Orkney, however, the port is a bit outside of Thurso, and taxis are in very short supply. Hotel staff were friendly but couldn't help us with this, unfortunately. I would stay there again.

Correct temperature, comfy beds good tv"s and lighting.
