Private mid-century modern haven just 5 miles from DC
About this house rental
Situated in Wheaton-Glenmont, this lovely house for R 4,720 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Come enjoy our super private, fully renovated "Mid-Century Modern Compound" in the charming and historic neighborhood of Hammond Wood, located just a short 5 mile drive from the Washington, DC border and one mile from the Wheaton Metro stop. Originally designed by renowned architect Charles Goodman (who also designed the iconic terminal building for the Washington National Airport), this 2-bedroom/1-bathroom home has been meticulously restored by Cook Architecture. The result is a comfortable balance of contemporary functionality and original design elements that pays homage to the home's significant history. Nestled amidst mature trees, manicured gardens, and singing birds, the property offers unparalleled privacy, with a fully fenced-in yard that boasts a fire pit, perfect for cozy evenings. Inside, the galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with brand new Poggenpohl cabinets, sleek quartz countertops, elegant walnut shelving, Bosch appliances, and comfortable seating for two at the bar. The living room features an eye-catching stone floor with radiant heating and large TV. The bedrooms are furnished with queen-sized beds and cork flooring. The modern bathroom has a comfortable walk-in shower. Additionally, the property includes a separate studio structure in the backyard, although it is currently unavailable for guest use. We hope to open it up again in the future. We will share our favorite local spots for dining, shopping, and attractions, especially in nearby Kensington, Bethesda, Garrett Park, and more. Please note that the maximum occupancy for this property is six people. Come experience mid-century modern for yourself!

This mid century modern home is delightful. The kitchen is wonderful and easy to cook in. The back yard is a highlight with lovely sitting spaces and tables to enjoy the trees, birds and especially sunsets. We shared meals outdoors with our daughter twice and she was very impressed as well.

We enjoyed a week in this cozy mid century modern house while we visited places in DC. The house was clean and had everything we needed, the basics and bonuses including coffee, spices, cooking oil, fire wood etc. We loved the view of the yard from the wall of windows, being able to let our dog out, hanging out sitting around the fire pit. The neighborhood was good for walking around in too. We visited Dewey park nearby twice to let the dog and toddler play, and took the metro into DC many times, easily parking at the Wheaton station and it was a 20-30 min ride into the city. The beds and couch were super comfy, and the heated stone floors were an enjoyable touch. My three year old daughter was excited to find a few toys for little kids too. Overall a wonderful stay for our family trip to DC.

Great location. We used the location as our mani stay while dropping our daughter off at GWU.

Small mid-century house conveniently located in a great wooded neighborhood. Perfect for our family of three and our dog. 30 minutes to Washington DC, and main attractions.

My family was in the area to meet our newborn grandchild. Our sons and dog stayed with us at this property and we visited our daughter and the baby nearby. Every morning, we had coffee on the patio and enjoyed the peaceful, relaxing, very private yard. The neighborhood was quiet and pleasant. The dog enjoyed the fenced yard and hanging out on the patio. The house was great--it's small but very functional, and the patio basically enlarged the living space wonderfully. The property owners were super communicative and friendly. An awesome property and a wonderful stay!

Everything about our stay was perfect in this charming and historic property in a suburb outside DC. Glass mid century modern pavilion looks into beautiful yard shaded by mature trees. Quiet neighborhood. House well equipped and comfortable with responsive owners.

Cute and renovated with upscaled kitchen and bathroom appliances. Overall nice quality to everything and it was a very convenient location to the Washington DC area. Bed was very comfortable. Would prefer more comfortable seating in the living room/kitchen area. Quiet neighborhood, the fenced in backyard a definitely plus for our two small dogs.

We loved our stay. The house was in a great neighborhood. It’s a small house but perfect for the two of us and our dog who loved the fenced in backyard. There is a fabulous dog park about 6 minutes from the house - Dewey Local Park. The shower is amazing. The beds are quite firm. The only thing missing was a guide to local places for food delivery or eating out. It’s always nice to have local recommendations

This quaint home was perfect for 2 adults and my dog! Both Michael & Johnathan were amazing hosts. They were super responsive and answered all of my questions. As soon as we walked in, the home smelled fresh and clean! The yard was perfect for my dog! He enjoyed the outside area! The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were super comfy! We will definitely be back!

Like going back in time, except with WiFi and HD TV. Courtyard-like back yard is private, serene, relaxing. True mid-century modern, and decorated that way, too. Big shower, comfortable bed, stone floor in living room is heated, kitchen is complete, top-end linens. If your don't know the area, give yourself plenty of time to commute - suburban DC usually finishes neck-and-neck with Los Angeles for the worst traffic in America. Having lived in both places I believe it. Still, the house is well placed for traveling to the Maryland-based Fed gov't entities inside or just outside the Beltway.

My husband and I stayed here while visiting our daughter and son-in-law who live about 10 minutes away, so the location was perfect for us. We absolutely loved the indoor/outdoor feel of the place with all the windows facing the backyard (with a number of different seating options there). The updated kitchen and bathroom were a huge plus for us in choosing this property. Although we didn't use the kitchen for any cooking, it was nice to have the option. The shower in the bathroom was great, loved the rainhead shower and the water pressure was wonderful. Although there was a great medicine cabinet behind the mirror in the bathroom, we ended up using the counter space above the washer and dryer which is right outside the bathroom and I really liked that option. We used the bedroom closest to living room, and the mattress/bedding was very comfortable for us. Before visiting I was just a bit worried about parking on the street, but this was not an issue at all, the two spaces mentioned were always available and we only had one car anyway so we always parked right at the walkway up to the property. Lastly, the communication with Michael/Jonathon was great, always prompt responses and very helpful!

There for Wells Fargo Championship. Excellent location for the tournament. Took a little bit of driving around to understand where restaurants, groceries, etc were in conjunction with property. Have advised property owners a neighborhood guide is an absolute must along with better instructions to house itself. Backyard gorgeous though rain curtailed our enjoyment of it. There is only one bathroom so two couples could be tight squeeze. Shower only. Architectural design is beautiful though needs some everyday living adaptation. No driveway, park on street which causes some interesting traffic patterns within neighborhood. Overall, great access to DC while understanding you are in suburbia. Be prepared to bring in groceries or a drive for ANY eating out.

My husband and I had a fabulously relaxing weekend staycation at this cozy and stylishly-appointed property. If you love midcentury modern architecture and design, this house is the real deal! In better weather, the charming and private yard would have beckoned, but we were very warm and comfortable inside during this icy weekend. The neighborhood is serene and woodsy, and the neighboring Kensington area is full of incredible international food. We really can't say enough positive things about our time there. Hoping to return in the future.

If you love midcentury modern architecture, this property is a must. It’s been carefully restored and mixes a new, modern kitchen and bath with vintage details. While the house isn’t large, w never noticed because the space is so well laid out and functional. And the outdoor garden is beautiful , private, and peaceful. The WiFi is strong, the beds comfortable, and the property spotless.
