Great stay

This is a charming little cabin, beautifully decorated, in a quiet and serene surrounding. Bring your groceries and you’ll have everything you need for a peaceful getaway. The walk down to the cabin from the parking area is a little steep and gravelly, which may be a challenge for those with mobility or balance issues. The living space was spotless and the sliding doors almost give you the feeling that you’re up in the trees. We enjoyed watching the birds from the spacious deck, and the short walk down to the river was quite enjoyable. A very special place, indeed. Would definitely stay again.

Mentone River Rock rental
Wonderful, secluded and peaceful but close proximity to the state park areas. Incline/decline to parking area. Cabin is decorated beautifully and very comfortable. Basic kitchen. Microwave under counter and hard to reach. Overall stay was still a 5.

We loved our 2 night anniversary getaway. The location and We booked last minute so I wasn’t sure what to expect but the booking process was easy, the pictures and description were accurate, and I would definitely recommend to friends.

Loved our stay!
We had the best unplugged weekend with my husband and adult kids. Less than 10 miles from a grocery store. The property is perfectly situated in the woods where you can see the stream and covered bridge from the wrap around desk. So peaceful. Caught fish, hiked and enjoyed the family. Will be back for sure!

Cannot beat the location. Unique spot and private, the river is beautiful, along with the covered bridge. Large deck with rocking chairs and outdoor table, we spent most of the time outside. One of my favorite parts was driving to and from the cabin. I'd recommend a vehicle with AWD of 4WD just for traction on the loose gravel road, especially if you plan to take the old military trail over to Shady Grove ranch where we went horseback riding. 10 minute drive or less to Mentone where you'll find Elevation Bistro and Mentone Market.
Would certainly stay here again.

We booked our trip for March 11th on February 9 understanding that it was non-refundable. (The listing gave an option to change the dates later if needed.) On March 2, hospice was called in for my father-in-law, and he was given a prognosis of 2 weeks. Two days later, however, he passed, putting us within the seven day window of our trip. Tony agreed to change our dates only if we paid an additional fee. We refused and went on the trip so as to not have our total amount wasted. We left one day after my father-in-law's funeral leaving our children with grieving family members.
We arrived after traveling down a pot-hole filled driveway to the cabin. It is remote as listed; however, not as remote as we had been led to believe. There is another cabin a stone's throw away and new construction being done directly across from the cabin.
As far as further contact with Tony, I did not have cell service to access the listing, so I messaged Tony to ask about Wi-fi. (There had obviously been a lot going on throughout the week, so I was not able to remember if there was Wi-fi or not.) His reply concluded with three exclamations marks as if he were yelling at me for asking the question.
The cabin was extremely cold and the heating unit did not sufficiently heat. It seemed as though the electric strip heat had been disconnected to keep the power bill low. A fire would have sufficed, but there was no firewood stored and no way for firewood to be cut unless you thought to bring your own axe on the trip. It had also just rained and snowed, so there was no wood to be used around the cabin. We had to drive 20 minutes to Fort Payne to buy firewood to keep warm.
I also found the multiple signs posted around the cabin reminding adults to act like adults annoying and condescending after my previous interactions with Tony. These included such statements as to not drink or eat in the bed, not to move the furniture, not to make large fires in the fireplace, and to make sure to use coasters.
The worst part; however, were the roaches in the kitchen, and these were not the typical palmetto bugs that might come in during the cold in Alabama; these were 4-5 German cockroaches crawling amongst appliances and dishes on the counter.
Did I contact Tony to tell him about our experience? No, and he did not reach out after we departed to ask about our stay. Mentone and DeSoto Falls are gorgeous, but there are many other places to stay. I do NOT recommend this property.

Location, location, location!!
Gorgeous setting! If you want isolation this is it, even in the dead of winter when trees are bare you could barely see a neighbor. The sound of the river literally outside the door makes for a peaceful, restful trip! The cabin is decorated as unique and cute as could be! Master bed is the comfiest I’ve found so far. Everything in the cabin was rustic yet modern and makes you want to redo your own home! 5 stars all the way!!

We enjoyed our stay at River Rock, it snowed about 4-5 inches while we were there. The scenery is beautiful and such peaceful surroundings. We plan on coming back in the summer and enjoying the outdoors. Tony is a pleasure to work with!!

Perfect getaway location for seclusion and R&R!
We celebrated our anniversary at River Rock, and I'm so happy we booked this cottage. I had been eyeing it for quite a while and thought our anniversary would be the perfect reason to book it. The cottage is pictured just how you will find it. It is super nice and cozy. Booking was a breeze and communication with Tony is excellent. We spent a lot of time at the cottage enjoying the deck from above looking at and listening to the beautiful river down below, as well as having fires in the pit at the river's edge each night. We enjoyed walking the shoreline in search of firewood and photo opps. Having a covered bridge right next to the cottage was such an awesome thing. We took so many pictures! The master bed is very comfortable. We cooked all our meals in the cottage. The kitchen is stocked with most everything you would need for preparing meals. We took morning trips to Mentone, and to DeSoto Falls hiking the path from the Trailhead. The falls are truly beautiful. I hope we get to return to the cottage at a different time of year to see the lush foliage that we missed having visited in mid-March. Next time we will rent the whole cottage to give us two bathrooms. I really wish the second bathroom could be made available when there are only 2 guests. Maybe just increase the nightly rate a little more to cover the cleaning cost for just the extra bathroom. THAT would be huge in my opinion. And, I should mention that my husband is a polio survivor and 70. There are around 7 steps (rock and crosstie) down to the cottage from your parking area and another 4 down to the river with no handrail. Don't let this stop you from booking this piece of heaven, but this would matter to a certain population. Overall, this is one of my top experiences with booking getaways. I've told so many friends and family about this gem. What are you waiting on? Book it!

Secluded Paradise
We enjoyed our getaway to celebrate our Anniversary in this beautiful cabin. Tony has done a great job making sure everything is taken care of before our arrival. The beds are so comfortable, the cabin is clean, the deck is so nice to sit on and listen to the river flowing below. We enjoyed the covered bridge and exploring in the area. We saw deer and turkeys while driving in and out of the property.

The house looked like the online photos just alot smaller and you really need a truck to get to the house. Also, there were no light switches for the outdoor lights, so at the end of a dead end location in the woods it was extremely dark and scary. There is ABSOLUTELY no cell service nor any wifi service, which we didn't mind but it would be great to know beforehand in case someone gets lost. I would say the view was amazing but for the cost of the place, lack of outdoor lighting and just overall location we won't stay there again.
