I feel very sorry for the owners of this house; it obviously used to be a treasure but is being swallowed by the sea. I'm sure they are charging as much as they do because they had to pay a fortune for the sand and shoring that has recently been added under the house, and must continue trying to save it. That said, It is totally unfair to the renters to portray this house as it used to be instead of as it is. For close to $1000/night, people expect a bit more!
Let me start with the dangerous bits: there is a wire mesh that has been added to the inside of the railing around the main floor deck. The wire has rusted through in a number of places leaving sharp bits of wire sticking into the deck area which is NOT good with a four year-old! Many of the balusters are not connected to anything at the bottom, and some are missing entirely, so the railing is completely unsafe. As noted in other reviews, the beach is gone behind the house but what's not noted is that the stairs to the beach have been removed and unsightly patches nailed over the former openings on the main floor deck. (BTW the upstairs deck is not screened in as it appears in the photos.) The beach that is left is covered in rocks and stumps and all of us left with cuts and scratches on our shins from bumping into the underwater ones. Also, the first step of the stairs in front of the house is broken but luckily it's very close to the sand.
I could write at least a full page about the problems but I won't. The rest, like the Dollar General shower curtain and dribbling water-saver shower head (instead of the handheld that obviously used to be there) and non-functioning makeup mirror in the master bath, and the non-functioning ceiling fan in the master bedroom, the twin bed shown in the bunkroom being in the closet of the master bedroom, all of the cabinet fixtures being loose in the kitchen, the dirty walls, the worn-out furniture, the lack of lights and outdoor shower under the house, etc., are not major things but not things one expects in this price range.
I give this house two stars instead of one because it is in a wonderful location and spacious. Even with all of the problems, after the initial disappointment our family enjoyed the week and being together in one place.
If you are the owner reading this, I would love to talk to you about your house. I hated writing this but renters need to know.

The pictures need to be updated for this home. There are definitely some changes since these were taken. The swing is gone. The water comes up to the house now so there is not much of a beach area. Luckily we had a very sweet neighbor that said we could use their beach area since we didn’t have much. The house needs a good deep cleaning and some updating. We ran into a few problems during our stay but Vacasa took care of us. We made the best of it and enjoyed our stay though.

Positives - This was a fantastic getaway for our extended family. The house was clean and very open with ample room for everyone. The area is quiet with not many people crowding the beach as the location is a private area. The views were magnificent. Overall, a great experience for us.
Negatives - We had issues at the beginning with internet log-in info incorrect and two ceiling fans that weren't working. To their credit, Vacasa, was very responsive and had the issues corrected very quickly. Additionally, the outdoor pictures are extremely out of date. Due to erosion, the water comes to the footings of the house-there is no beach off the back deck. But we were able to enjoy the beach beside the house.
Also, none of the outdoor furniture in the pictures are on the premises. There is deck furniture, but it is very weathered. There were many nail pops on the deck that needed hammered down. Finally, during a heavy rain, some water entered through a laundry room window.
I gave it a 4 because it was such a relaxing vacation and Vacasa was great to work with. It simply seems the house's upkeep is not very important to the owner.

I just left a more in depth review with this property on Vacasa. I don’t want to repeat the hole thing again but you can see it there. A brief review is the property is run down and doesn’t look like the pictures. There is no way to get to the beach from the back deck you would be in the gulf. We had so many problems in one week that it was exhausting and I don’t feel like I even had a vacation at all .

The view was absolutely amazing. The location was in a gated community which was nice and secure. The property itself was very clean but just needed some upkeep on the wear n tear of the house. The deck chairs were falling apart nails catching clothing. The TV in the left upstairs room didn’t work.
The pictures definitely need to be updated on the listing. The beach is very small which was ok because we’re just sunbathing in it but deceiving from the pictures on the listing.
Make sure you bring laundry soap, dish soap and dishwasher detergent. They give you very minimal for the weeks stay we had to purchase more of all. Overall beautiful home great location but for the price Vacasa ( the management company) definitely needs to do some repairs/updates in between rental weeks/days. We had to reach out to Vacasa the day of check in because we never received check in instructions.
Also renting a golf cart made maneuvering the island easy and fun!

The house is right on the water. and there is no beach as it has been washed away. We enjoyed staying on the island and all of the amenities that are on the island. The house could use some work. The lower Deck is in bad shape and needs repaired, multiple spindles need to be replaced or even put back as they are missing.

The house is right on the water. and there is no beach as it has been washed away. We enjoyed staying on the island and all of the amenities that are on the island. The house could use some work. On top of the water
We had a great vacation at Island Sunrise! I would give it 5 stars but there are few minor issues, the pictures for the listing are old. Due to serious beach erosion there is very little beach in front of the house on the Gulf side. Pictures are a little deceiving there but loved hearing the waves crash right outside our window. Some minor cosmetics issues as well, couple of windows and shades did not work, tear in one of the living room chairs, no tools for the fireplace and the bathroom outlets did not work in the master bath. Those things aside, the house was beautiful and felt lived in and comfortable. We hated to leave.

Plenty of room to spread out and yet meet again in the middle with the open concept of the living quarters. The beach is quiet, but the sound of the waves lull you to sleep at night. Plenty of room to spread out and yet meet again in the middle with the open concept of the living quarters. The beach is quiet, but the sound of the waves lull you to sleep at night. The property we were offered as an alternative was not comparable to what we booked. We let them know that if they were to provide a hotplate the stove would not be an issue as we planned on BBQing a lot anyway. Crisis averted, or so we thought. When we arrived yhe first thing we noticed was yellow caution tape around the stilts of the house and keep out signs posted. Almost the entire underside of the house was washed out and the concrete cracked and fallen. On the back of the house the stairs and lower deck were damaged and inaccessible. This left the only access to the beach from the front door and walking around the house. Based on speaking with people who lived around there the damage was from Christobal in June, nearly 2 and a half months before our trip took place. We contacted the local agent and they took care of some minor things for us (hose to reach front porch so we could rise feet off and securing the gate to the damaged stairs to keep the kids from going down them). After this we were assured that something would be done and that we would hear from them soon. This has not happened after repeated emails. We enjoyed the beach but the way in which this was handled and the deceptive attempt to get us not to stay there on extremly short notice leaves a lot to be desired.

The house was fantastic. We really enjoyed the area. All the locals were very nice. The only complaint I have, is the Volkswagen sized jellyfish. Not much anyone can do about that. So... A Next to Perfect Vacation.

needs to update listing and pics, NO BEACH AREA, NONE. Entire first floor is destroyed which means you will have sand ALL in your unit your entire time AND back stairs are unusable. If your neighbor to the left has occupants, you willl have NO beach available.

Christmas Getaway
My family and I had such a great, much-needed getaway. We have always loved the Audubon Place community, and fell in love with this house. My dad would have loved it too. And would have truly enjoyed spending Christmas on the beach. We did bring his ashes with us, and spread some on the sand near the water at sunset on Christmas Day, and watched the waves wash them away. It was a hard but beautiful farewell and great way to honor Dad's memory on this first Christmas without him. We have found a new favorite spot in Audubon Place, and will hopefully be back to spend more days there in the near future, hopefully sooner than 10 years later. Thank you again for helping us say goodbye to Dad in this special way. We also got to make new Christmas memories while cherishing the memories we've made on this same beach with Dad in the past.
As for the 3 Stars on the accuracy of the online listing, the photos and/or descriptions need to be updated is all. The water is much closer to the house than expected, which is probably why the steps have been rebuilt and rerouted. The beanbags in the pics in front of the loft TV were hidden but once we found them weren't really usable either. We had hoped for those as we have small children that were going to be using them in that loft space upstairs. There also weren't as many chairs available on the deck as pictured. And the ice maker and water dispenser on the fridge didn't work, so that needs to be fixed or explained to future renters. The property manager was more than helpful though and was only a text or call away. She washed our clothes for us one day when the washing machine quit working (and had them folded too!) and brought us a couple of bags of ice, as well. It was a very small VERY MILD inconvenience. The trip was still amazing, and we will be back without a doubt, ice maker or no ice maker.

Best sector of Dauphin Island
At first you wonder why you are in a fishing boat active area, but it is picturesque first thing in the morning, and it gives you something to watch other than swimmers. And, there were no gnats to bug you as we found when we went to the west end of the island for sunset pictures. No Natz was the best selling item in the stores. The beach is getting closer and closer to the house. The person who put in the new outside back steps came by and noticed more steps were needed to reach the sand level of the beach.

From the ridiculous to the sublime
When we arrived, we were disappointed that the beach area in no way resembled the online pictures of the property. Beach erosion was extensive and there was very little beach. There were also tree stumps in the water that caused a problem for swimming directly in front of the property. The WiFi didn’t work, nor did the color on the TVs. Apparently something was wrong with the cable. One of our sons in law went up the steps from the beach and on the way back down the support for the steps collapsed. He was not hurt but we were forced to use the front door to access the beach for the remainder of the week. The first time we did laundry the washer leaked all over the laundry room floor. After calling the corporate office, an exceptionally helpful lady named Candace and a repairman named Allen came to our rescue. She got our WiFi sorted out Allen blocked off access to the stairs for safety, and brought us a new washing machine. Alas, nothing could be done about the color in the TV but black and white was ok.
After the horrendous start of our vacation week, it became a good week. We adjusted to having to go the long way around to the short strip of beach and being so close to the house from the water made it simpler to get to the picnic table and swing under the deck. The house itself was great. The bedrooms were wonderful with extra balconies and there was ample room for everyone in the living area.
Incredibly enough, by the end of the week our family decided that the next time we go to the beach, we are going to book this house again!

Great Vacation
Enjoyed our stay with 5 adults and 2 kids. Great location on the beach. Walk down the stairs and you are in the sand. Close enough for walks through the bird sanctuary. House is big enough for everyone to enjoy. House was very clean on arrival. Kitchen had what you would expect for plates/utensils/glasses/appliances, etc. Some additional outdoor seating for the back deck would have been nice, but bring your beach chairs and you will be all set. The reviewer that mentioned the deck w/nails sticking up is correct. Some repair of the back deck is needed, but just wear your flip flops and you will be all set.

Paradise!
Second time staying in this home. Teenage kids and little ones all had their own space and was able to get around for our daily adventures easily with the all the bathrooms the house has. Love the beautiful views and how spacious the house is. Dauphin Island does not disappoint! Home had everything we needed for our week. Back porch needs some TLC due to nails being raised but we used shoes out there and had no problems. Can't wait to come back. Vacasa was also very easy to deal with and would recommend going through them for future vacations!

2019 Spring Break Dauphin Island
This home is on the beach..right out the back door. Large room's, livingroom, dining room, kitchen have open concept. This home is very comfortable and close to site seeing. They supply enough basic stuff to get you started until you can get to store to purchase what you want. More than enough room for parking.
