Great location, beautiful sunset views. Very clean.

Our time spent here was really nice. It is a good location….close to beaches and was a close to Hawi….which was a beautiful drive. The bed was super comfortable, the beach equipment was really convenient. We were a little concerned because all the doors didn’t lock, but the neighborhood seemed safe and we were able to use the broom handle in the sliding door.

The perfect beginning to a visit to the state caring, concerned folks who helped guide us here late at night; a view that is incredible, sleeping with all the doors and windows open, absolutely quiet. A time to cherish.

We are looking forward to it Beautiful, quietly located apartment with great views of the garden and direct views of the sea. The apartment was basically clean, only one shower towel was dirty and certain pillows on the sofa inside and outside had small stains. The communication with the hostess was impeccable and cordial. We even received a small breakfast from her once. The apartment is about 40min from Kona, the nearest larger town Waimea is about 20min by car.

The studio is small but the wrap around lanai and the floor-to-ceiling garden/ocean view more than made up for that. Wireless worked fine, a/c was nice, bed was comfy. We appreciated all the linens in addition to beach towels and very nice beach chairs. The location was great for us -- a little isolated (in a good way) but close to our favorite beaches and snorkeling spots on the north Kohala coast.

Mitsuko and Curt are wonderful hosts who share not only their fabulous home(pictures do not do this property justice), but snacks, experiences, local recommendations for beaches and restaurants. This area is centrally located to Waimea, Havi, and South Kohala beaches. This is a place of peace and beauty that should not be missed!

We stayed here the last two nights of our 10 day trip to the Big Island. We arrived just after sunset. The views are expansive and the wrap around lanai was so welcoming. There were strong winds that evening and it felt great! The following morning I just I didn’t want to leave it. I agreed to go to breakfast but wanted to spend the day in the quiet of this place with the amazing views and the fragrance of their trees and flowers. We ordered from the Seafood Bar for dinner and had coconut shrimp on the lanai! Watched the sunset and the moon rise. Perfect last night and only 35 minutes to Kona Airport in the morning.

A wonderful location between Hawi, Waimea, and the beaches of Hapuna and Puako. Our hosts were warm and generous, and we made good use of the masks and snorkles available as well as the beach chairs! Recommended! And I didn't even mention the views...

The view of the sunset was awesoe. Very private, clean and cozy. Loved staying there.

Unforgettable views and experience

We loved the peacefulness of Mitsuko’s studio. It was very relaxing with sweeping views of the ocean and just a short drive to the beach. It was a great spot to explore the top of the island from.

Small studio perfect for our needs. My husband and I stayed three nights while spending days at the beaches. We ate breakfasts at the unit and the microwave and small fridge were all we needed. It was very tidy and clean, the bed was comfortable, and it has a nice deck and gorgeous views. There is an air filter/purifier with a fan that we ran at night with the sliding doors open and we were comfortable. The owner let us check in early and had beach chairs and an umbrella out for us so we could head to the beach which we appreciated. We would stay again. Thank you to the host!

This was our second stay here and we enjoyed it quite a bit. Great view and location. Nicely set up. Hope to visit again.

Great rental for gorgeous views and peaceful location. Lush tropical plants surround the studio apt. Simple amenities work as a resting place between Kohala Coast adventures. Perfect for someone like me who was here for work alone in Kawaihae.

Expansive 200-degree view of ocean, mountains and hillside at 755 ft ASL! 40-ft wide lanai. Super quiet, nearest house hundreds of feet away. Host provides very convenient items, like drip and french press coffee makers, swim, snorkel and beach supplies. Very relaxing stay. We'll be back.

No issues in the rental process

Perfect location and nicely appointed space. Everything we needed and then some. Gorgeous views from the two Lanais. Other than a quick hello, complete independence from the hosts. Peace and quiet.

I LOVED staying here! We stayed at 4 different places across the island and this was by far the best. Very clean, quiet, and relaxing. Lots of really nice amenities like beach-going gear, lots of towels, soaps, and even snacks! The view is beautiful (not just of the ocean but on clear days you can see the top of Mauna Kea!) and you have access to an outdoor patio with different places to sit. Really lovely hosts, would absolutely recommend staying there.

Lovely rural location with stunning views over the ocean. Quiet, peaceful, clean, comfortable, quality bedding and towels, bed comfortable, seating inside and out, and plenty of room to park car. Hosts welcoming and helpful. Clear arrival instructions, although a bit hard to spot house number in the dark. Portable air-con unit too noisy to leave on at night, but also has tower fan and 3 opening doors with insect screens, so possible to get good sleeping temperature at night.

Well appointed beautiful garden spot with panoramic vistas, everything needed for a worry-free stay, quiet but for glorious birdsong.

We had such the perfect stay at Kohala Estates! The view from the lanai was nothing short of spectacular. We were able to see so many whales and it gave us the perfect base of operations to explore the north side of the island.

The property sits high up on the slope overlooking the Kohala coast- a great vantage point for sunsets and even whale spouts! The studio kitchen is surprisingly well-stocked with appliances, the bed was comfortable, and the patio was a nice place to relax, sheltered from the strong easterly winds we had during our stay. Mitsuko & Curt are nice hosts- they provided beach gear (thanks!), shared some fresh fruit, and were unobtrusive. We enjoyed our time there. Thanks!

At first I wasn’t going to leave a review because the property manager is extremely nice but honestly I’m very upset by this experience the more I think about it. First I did not realize we were staying in the basement. No big deal but whenever someone walked upstairs it sounded like thunder. The wall shook the bed and it was very loud. The bed was uncomfortable and the shower just looked dingy but can be ignored. There was ants everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE! From crawling into our food that was left on the table to our toothbrushes on the bathroom sink. They ended up getting into our suitcases (that we had off the ground) and when I was at the airport I saw them crawling out of my bag (CRINGE!!!) I left my phone & laptop on the counter and when I grabbed them ants where crawling all over them. I told the property manager and she said she didn’t see anything when she cleaned which I don’t believe since they were legit covering every inch! Aside from the bug situation and the motel 6 interior - the location was great and the views were beautiful.

A perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary! This small but comfy studio apartment has everything you need for a private get-away. Surrounded by flowers and birds, the lanai is perfect for watching whales and sunsets. The manager was accommodating, and the check-in was flawless. It's a short drive to our favorite beaches. Everything about our time there was perfect! We will be back!

Splendid ocean view, clean interior. Nice hosts. Economical rates. However, for us to return the home needs some extensive exterior clean-up...it's far from tidy. Inside the space is dominated by a huge overstuffed sofa. You have to move it to open the small fridge or the cabinet drawers. Toss it out and replace with a bench or loveseat. And invest in a gas barbecue. Charcoal briquets went out in the 80's. Adding a second Tommy B folding beach chair would be nice. Wouldn't hurt to let people know in advance the TV is only 24"

The apartment is cozy, simple and well located. The bed has a great, supportive mattress, which we really appreciated after sleeping the previous five nights on mushy ones. It is a compact space, approx. 400 - 450 ft.2. The kitchen area is more a prep and warming setup, toaster oven, microwave and mini-fridge than cooking. Cleanliness could be better, we found someone else's soap in the shower and the large area rug needs cleaning. All-in-all a good place for a short stay.

This place was small but all we needed. The view is about 180 degrees wide and is spectacular. We loved sitting on our private deck and staring at the stars at night and having our morning sunrise coffee. Hapuna State Park with its great beach and free parking is about 10-15 mins away. Other beaches are also close. Our hosts very kind and accommodating, too, and we’d stay there again happily. This was a very nice experience!
