Rebel rest is a cute little house boat. It was very clean & comfortable! It’s location is perfect! You can walk anywhere around the town from its location. The view is beautiful and even on a hot summer day the breeze off the water makes it pleasant for sitting on the front patio & watching all the boats go by. Although we cooked nothing while there the kitchen is adequate for preparing a meal. We throughly enjoyed our stay and we give the place 5 stars all the way but, we were a little amused that we had to wait 30 minutes to get into the houseboat and communication was very slow. When you travel upon arrival you just want to get out of the car & relax. I notified Karan shortly after 4 that the houseboat was not open but did not hear back until the next day. Luckily someone showed up about 4:30 to open it because we were concerned that there had been a mix up. We would still highly recommend the Rebels Rest with its full view into a small fishing villages life style, off the beaten path of the touristy town but don’t by any means miss the cute shops & wonderful restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was The Station. It’s a short drive to Carrabelle, MX Beach, Pt St Joe and even Tyndall if you happen to be military which we are & we enjoyed visiting several friends along the Panhandle stretch. Book with confidence that you will enjoy your stay.

We found the houseboat just as described in the listing. The photos were very accurate. We met Karen one day while walking the dock & had a very nice conversation with her. She gave us a little history of the town & her boat rentals. If you are looking for a small town to go & relax, then this is the place for you. We spent alot of our time just relaxing on the back deck enjoying the water. This town is a no-frills, laid back, friendly , quite place. The stores / restaurants close pretty early & some places are closed on Sunday / Monday. It is worth the drive to take the bridge over to St. George. The beach at the State Park there was absolutely perfect. No crowds & the softest sand ever. We went into this vacation looking for relaxation in a non-tourist trap atmosphere and that is exactly what we got. Everything was GREAT!
Thank you Karen for offering such an awesome rental.

Highly recommend this as a stay to relax. Walking and shopping as well as amazing food all right out the front door.

We loved our stay at the houseboat and had so much fun. The water view is beautiful and the boat barely moved at all. I will say it was not very private and was odd to have some harmless patrons from the restaurant next door and the host board and come around to the back porch while we were still inside.

Charming waterfront accommodation
We truly enjoyed our stay. The house has everything you need and Karen was super friendly and available for any questions. Don’t worry about staying on the water because even the biggest boats passing by caused very little movement. We will definitely be back and plan to tell our friends and family about this little jewel.

First time staying in a houseboat and it was a great experience. We loved the peacefulness and beautiful views…. We also got remarried on the boat ! Everything fell into place and Ms. Judi did an excellent job with short notice of vows and while exchanging vows… fish started flapping and a boat went by and cheered. We love Apalatchacola, and so did my parents… We left a huge house in St. George ti come back though Apalatchacola one last night. We missed staying on the boat again , but enjoyed touring around and having a fabulous lunch at the Owl cafe . We are very interested in coming back to the boathouses.
Thank you , Karen .

We loved staying on your houseboat. It was so magical sitting on the deck watching the fish jump, the lily pads float by and the shrimp boats coming in surrounded by birds. The location was great, was able to walk right out the door and listen to some good music right around the corner, browse through the local shops and eat some great restaurants. Also, a quick drive to Cape San Blas, spent the day at the beach swimming in the Gulf. I can't wait to come back and share this experience with other friends.

Loved the secluded little area on the nice houseboat. Great views and relation area on the rear deck, houseboat has, or has access to anything you'd need for a relaxing stay. Great shops and restaurants in Apalachicola and a short drive to St.George Island with public access areas and a state park on the east end!

Away from it all, but still close to everything
Staying on a houseboat is unlike anywhere else I've stayed--in a good way. Sitting on the deck or looking out the windows, you feel like you are off on a river adventure. Boats and birds are your only companions. All the pleasure of boating, without any of the work! Sometimes a larger boat going by may make a wake big enough to gently rock your floating home; just enough to remind you that you are on a boat.
The houseboat was clean, thoughtfully equipped with all the necessities, and convenient to exploring Apalachicola. Karen is an exceptional host!

Shopping for a Tiki
We loved our stay at the Rebel's Rest! Opening the door to watch the sunrise was spectacular! Staying on the water may not be for everyone, but we will do it again. It's walking distance from everything in town. Watched a manatee play in the water right outside our door. Very cool!!!

Perfect getaway
Nice houseboat. It had all we needed, and was convenient to many shops and restaurants. The coffee was appreciated, and the owner even went out of her way to leave hand sanitizer and masks for us. Communication was good. We loved the view off the back of the houseboat - very peaceful and much appreciated after crazy work schedules and lock downs due to COVID these past several months. Lots to see and do in the nearby area, including St. George Island. And the seafood was outstanding! Highly recommend.

Excellent last minute decision.
I had watched the booking calendar and was able to secure the 'Rebel's Rest' two days prior to our arrival.
Karen was terrific, the 'houseboat' was as described, weather was perfect, and I especially liked the security.
Great ON THE RIVER experience !

Wonderful weekend
We celebrated our 31st anniversary and enjoyed every second of it. We wanted to try something different. This was our first time on a houseboat. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the water. A huge thank you to John and Norma! They were amazing. We enjoyed walking into town for shopping and delicious food. We are counting the days until we can come back!

A neat experience in a great location
We enjoyed our stay on the houseboat. We could very easily walk to breakfast and dinner, the restaurant next door was great as well, we really enjoyed watching the boats come and go and we spied two alligators from our porch. The houseboat was roomier than expected and the kitchen had everything you would need.
Our only suggestion is that the air conditioning situation needs some attention. You would freeze in the living room and then have to sit a box fan in the hallway in order to try to push some cold air to the bedroom. If the two ceiling fans were adjustable so that you could really move some air around that might be all that is needed. I would absolutely stay there again and highly recommend Karen as a wonderful and attentive host.

Love it!
The beauty of the houseboat is the peace and tranquility of being right on the river. But yet it's just a stone's throw from the shops, bars and restaurants.
The use of space makes it feel bigger than it actually is. Had everything I needed. And the view from sitting outside reminds you why you're there. I will certainly stay again. Damn I'd live here if I could! Eamon (Pensacola via Ireland).

Clean, sufficient and location is awesome.
Watch the river wander by and slow down to its leisurely pace. Steps to downtown shopping and dining and no need to hurry anywhere. Highly recommended for relaxing and reflecting.

Wonderful getaway for couple
My husband and I spent five nights on the houseboat. The river was lovely. The location was perfect for walking to all the great restaurants, quaint shops and fun bars. And only a 15 minute drive to gorgeous secluded beaches at St. George Island State Park. Karen met us on our arrival, and was very nice and helpful.
There are three reasons I couldn’t give the houseboat five stars. The most important is that there were two ac window units in the living room on one end, but no ac units on the bedroom end. Though the ac ran continuously and the door between stayed open, the bedroom never cooled down. It was hot sleeping. Two, the deck on the river is fabulous. That is the main reason that we booked the property. I love to read and relax outside, especially in such a beautiful setting. However, the only deck furniture was a dining table and chairs that was not comfortable for lounging. We asked Karen, and she graciously led us to some beach chairs that she let us borrow. But just beware, you may have to arrange your own comfortable seating. Three, the back door lock was broken and wouldn’t stay locked. One pull and it slid right open. Karen told us not to worry, not a crime area. We didn’t worry, and she was right. Just beware. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Fun Times!
Lovely houseboat, unique experience. If you love to fish, then this is the place for you. Our grandson loved fishing off the back deck and watching the wildlife. Ms. Hoff was very helpful and everything was provided that you needed on the boat. Went on a charter fishing trip with Captain Jimmy Maxwell, he picked us up right at the boat and caught sea trout, shark and catfish. He knew the best fishing spots. Everything in town was within walking distance. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend the houseboats and Backwater guide service.
