First of all it’s important to understand that this property matched my husband’s and my idea of what we like when on vacation. We are bird watchers, nature lovers, and love to walk with our dog. This was the best property for our likes that we have ever rented. It was like having a nature preserve all to ourselves. The house is very isolated but we always felt very safe. The long dirt road was a great place for our daily walk with our dog. We walked 1.5 miles up and back another 1.5 miles We had no trouble driving on it, but during our two week stay did not venture out much. We saw 67 different species of birds at the house and along the walk. The house had everything we needed. Who ever does the cleaning does an excellent job. The beds are very comfortable. For those not familiar with well water I would suggest bringing your own for drinking. The water pressure is a little funky; just don’t let others run water when showering Finally one other thing that might bother some is that there is no trash pick up. You have to take your trash just a few miles down the road to a collection site. It was really no big deal. However whoever stayed there before us left their trash in the cans under the house. I wasn’t going to take other people’s trash, so it may still be there. We plan on returning. It’s so good for relaxing and getting away for it all.

The views along the tidal creek are awesome in the true sense of the word. The isolation is polarizing. For me, it was great. For my wife, it was unnerving at night. You’re 2.5 miles away from civilization and if you love that you will love the experience.

We needed time away and we got it! View is amazing. Wildlife aplenty. We had a sedan and did not have issues. Time of day and year might change that. Huge yard, big deck. Grill needs regular clean out to be safe. Picnic table is a beautiful spot for meals. The kitchen is well stocked. We found everything clean. Very outdated house but really great spot and comfortable. We felt the beds kitchen and bathrooms were all very clean. I would recommend it to anyone who does not need super new modern decor. We would return.

This rental is remote, but that is what we loved about it. The views were spectacular and we saw an abundance of wildlife every day. It was so tranquil there, we were truly able to fully relax and unwind. The cabin is a bit rustic, and could use some TLC, but we found everything to be clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The only negatives were that the internet was not adequate for my husband to work remotely and the yard was in desperate need of mowing.

I love how secluded this home is. I didn't mind the long sandy roads and had no trouble driving on them. I had saw a previous review that made me worry just a little bit about whether I could get my little car down them but, I had no trouble at all. Will definitely try to book it again in the future for another family vacation.

Someone needs to investigate these places before they are listed. When we arrived at the location there were 2 dogs on the premises. Trash scattered underneath the house. My husband is allergic to dogs. Upon entry you can smell the stench of dog urine and smoke Carpets filthy revealed that several pet accidents occurred. We walked back out. Was told that we would be placed in a new place, but no one called back. Additionally the location is very secluded. We drove several miles on dirt road a few miles to property. Horrible conditions over-all. Do not waste your time or money. I haven't heard back from the property management. I called them twice and sent email

I enjoyed my visit here. Perfect for my needs. I would repair the hole in the deck next to the grill before someone steps through it and gets seriously injured. Also, the water pressure is highly irregular, so something needs fixing there.

Location was great, quiet and private. Setup was good for our needs . The two baths were some what of a challenge due to the low water preasure . We could only use one water faucet at a time, just be aware of that . Overall it was good for us as a weekend getaway.

There were many great aspects to this property. It’s rustic older cabin feel is nice but could use a little tlc. We did fishing, camp fires, kayaks, crabs… it’s salt water with a tide. No swimming! There are small sharks and a strong current at times. Our main thing was that it was just Soo much driving and when it says suv, it’s more like truck or sport suv. The 10-15 min drive down the dirt causeways are tough! Then you still have at least 30 min to get to a city or destination. Since we’d driven a long way that made it hard. Maybe for others it’d be easy. It was hard on my vehicle though. Definitely a beautiful, peaceful place. The area does controlled forest fires that smoked us out a couple days with ash. Not something the property manager would probably know but was unbearable at times. There was no good way to contact the company. I never got responses from my messages. It was just pre-populated texts for ratings and a “check out” That you left. Very different from other vrbos. I’d go back for a weekend with adults that didn’t mind the driving. Teens just get really tired of being on the car for an hour just to go to town.

Perfect house to unwind in nature while close enough to visit Hilton Head, Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston! The setting was gorgeous, set on the tidal marsh and surrounded by huge live oaks dripping with moss. Great deck and dock to enjoy the moving tides, beautiful wildlife, the sunrise and sunset… and the occasional shooting star. The house is rustic and remote including the long dirt road to access, which added to the experience. The house could use some TLC as it was a bit dated. The amenities were great and had everything we needed for meal prep, laundry, etc.- plus a generous supply of toiletries and kitchen basics. We loved our stay at Coles Island.

If you want private, quiet, with great scenery, you can’t beat it. The house is nice, clean, and well equipped. But the location was absolutely phenomenal. Can’t hear or see anything but wildlife and the river. Loved it.

The property and views are spectacular. Very remote and private. This is a property for anyone wanting to get away from everything except natural beauty. The house is rustic. Expect a cabin in the woods feel rather than a modern home. Our only complaint would be the lack a kayak launch. A shore launch is possible at very high tide, but you must get back out before the tide drops much. The bank is extremely steep and muddy at low tide. We hauled kayaks to Salzburg, but the creek by the house is much nicer. A kayak dock makes a wonderful stay perfect.

This was our second stay on Cole’s Island. The property is magical, great fishing off the pier, boat ramp is easily accessible. Dog friendly, perfect porch for family and dogs. Porch safely secure for any size dog with secure gate. House nice, clean, cozy, accommodating. Huge yard, dogs can run and play freely. Can’t wait till next year!!

We needed a last minute reservation for family coming Ridgeland for a funeral. Found this gem just 15 minutes from town. While the road to the property can be a bit intimidating for some city folk, the site of the property once you get to the clearing is amazing.
They provide amenities to accommodate all of the comforts of home and the convenience store near by is great as well. The home was very clean, all things considered, there will be spiders and other insects in the woods. The view from the Great Room and wrap around porch are stunning.
City folk, if you are looking for an off the beaten path getaway, this place is amazing. Experienced campers and fisherman, you couldn't ask for a better place.

This is the only place we rent. The property is beautiful and right on the inlet. It is so quiet and peaceful. If you love to fish and you need peace and quiet this is the place to be. We have been 5 years in a row and we always book a year in advance.

AMAZING
if you like camping, out door activities, relaxing, and family time you definitely have to stay here! the home is absolutely beautiful, its right infront of the water so the views are awsome. at night you can see deer running around the property which we loved. the only little detail is that the house needs a deep clean from spider webs on the windows and roof but other than that everything els was very clean we enjoyed are stay and cant wait to go back

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, remote cabin. The lawn is huge and well maintained and the dock is in excellent shape. The only issues we had were with the exterior lights not working and on our last day I went to put the trash out and discovered both cans full from the previous renters.
For the amount paid in owners fees you would expect the lights to work and the trash to be taken off. Overall we had a great trip and would definitely recommend this place to get away and relax.

I booked this place for a guys fishing trip. We spent most of our time on the water a few miles from the cabin but we thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent there. The property is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The lawn is huge! All kinds of wildlife and beautiful scenery everywhere.
The home had a rustic feel that we liked. There were a few “quirks” but everything was clean and we were very pleased overall. There is a very large tidal swing in the area and a steep drop off at the bank. We fished off the dock some but didn’t have much luck other than stingrays. We caught some seatrout up the creek a little ways but ended up spending most of our time fishing a few miles south. We put our 16 ft boat in at Salzburg landing at high tide. We didn’t have any issues but the landing is a pretty rough and there isn’t much space to maneuver, park etc. It could be tricky at low tide. We also used Bolan Hall Landing which was just a bit further though more user friendly. If you are looking to enjoy the outdoors a little ways “off the path” you will love it here. It’s a unique low country treasure and we will definitely be back!

We had issues with WiFI, internet extremely slow. We received one garbage bag for each garbage can including kitchen, one roll of paper towel half used & one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom. We had six people and this was a 4 night five day stay. Didn't think we had to spend quality time shopping. Instructions were none as to were to put garbage/recycle and any other instructions as to what should be done when we leave the premises. We did find a large garbage can under the cabin when we found the bikes with broken chains. Grill was disgusting and couldn't use. The deck area needed to be clean from branches, cones & definite signs of a party. We understand we were by water and it can draw in critters, but we feel if exterminate & cobwebs were taking care of it would be less infected. One night it was beautiful to open windows but we couldn't because it would let the big spiders in.
So that night we tried the firepit after we found logs. Firepit was nice and created a smores night of fun with the kids.
Hope this helps you in future rentals.

The property Is absolutely beautiful; Live Oaks, water, marsh, nature (dolphins, shark, crabs, alligator, armadillo, deer, rattlesnake, birds, dogs, and donkeys'). The house is not luxury but is perfect for a relaxing group, especially with pets and a boat, Acceptably clean, though spider webs and other debris on ceilings (not excessive).
Things to know....unless weather is extreme...4 wheel drive is not necessary, trash is not clear - when we arrived the two cans were overflowing and after a raccoons got to the trash we contacted Vacasa we were told that we needed to take trash to the county trash dump( take a right onto the paved road leaving property and a few miles away - free disposal). Per the county's web site, not open on Sat or Sun so we left our final trash on our Sat departure.
The earthen boat ramp is ok but I would suggest using at high tide/slack tide.
Finally we liked our vacation at this property so much for our family needs that we have already rebooked for next year. Additionally, my wife were so inspired to start looking for a similar property to purchase for our family.
Note: This was perfect for us, but it is simple and not for someone looking for a high finished home.....it is more like a camp.

My adult children and their spouses met us in Ridgeland. None of us had ever heard of Ridgeland, SC and we all had a blast! Played frisbee in the huge yard, walked and explored and fed the donkeys with our dog. It was a blast!

This was our second stay at Coles Island and loved it as much as the first. See March 2021 review for details on the house. We enjoyed Kayaking in the Tidal Creek and walking down the drive. This is the perfect rental for seclusion and quiet. Very short drive to Port Royal and Beaufort. It took us an hour to drive to Hunting Island ( moderate traffic). Highly recommend

The location is fantastic. Very private. Wildlife everywhere. We have done a few vrbos before and there is always a little note telling you about the place. There was nothing. Where to put the trash is one that we had to hunt down. Heads up for everyone with dogs, we had several stray dogs come say hello. Thankfully nothing bad happened. My main problem with the place is the lower deck. The position of the ramp going down to the lower dock left about 2 feet before you were in the river. Definitely didn’t want my kids or dogs going down there. One slip on the metal ramp and you were in the river. But overall loved our vacation.

The property was exactly as advertised. No surprises. The house is nice, the bathrooms could stand some updating. The house is isolated, 2.5 miles down dirt roads. The island seems to be about 1 mile by 1 mile and there are a total of 4 houses. There is plenty of privacy. The yard is huge and beautiful. It was very well kept. We saw deer everyday. Also saw turkey, an armadillo, fox squirrels and a good number of water fowl. The views of the creek and marsh are wonderful. The tidal flow in the creek was very fast, making kayaking a challenge. No luck catching fish.Cell phone service was spotty (Verizon) The WiFi worked well, so getting on the internet was not an issue.Overall, a very pleasant stay, we hope to visit again.
