We had a relaxing stay at Merritt’s ocean side cottage. Plenty of room for us and our children. The woodstove was one of our favorite things about the place. Top of the list was the sounds of waves crashing and the paths through the woods that smell like Christmas.
A couple things to keep in mind that we wished we knew ahead of time.
We booked the place for the solitude! That being said make sure you stock up on groceries, toilet paper, and garbage bags!
The hot water is a bit tricky and the water is brown but completely fine for use but the color might be alarming at first.
The bathroom upstairs has a pocket door which doesn’t shut all the way leaving you with no feeling of privacy. Again, not a big deal with our little family but might be with a mixed group.
Every house has little quirks but the overall experience makes you overlook them. Nothing that you can’t live with. We loved the memories we made here.

We had a wonderful week at the coast, the house was great. Spectacular views!

We had a wonderful week at Merritt’s cottage (and our dog had the best vacation ever)! The cottage is cozy, nicely decorated, and larger than it looks in the photos. The views are absolutely fantastic! We normally don’t stay in the same place twice, but plan on making an exception for this house and can’t wait to return!

The property was beautiful. When the weather permitted, the view was outstanding. It was quiet, and extremely restful. A little bit of a drive to get somewhere, but we didn't want to get anywhere. There were local restaurants that were great with just a little drive. And Rockland supermarkets were just fine. We would highly recommend.

The cottage sits on a bluff with an amazing view of the ocean that can be enjoyed from every room in the house.
The walking trails surrounding the property were amazing and well maintained.
The well equipped cottage isn’t large but there is a feeling of spaciousness.
Merritt, the host, was very helpful and responsive.

My wife and I booked this house for our honeymoon trip. This house couldn’t have been a better choice to stay at. The ocean views from the house and deck are surreal and breathtaking. The house was very clean and had all the kitchen equipment we needed. We truly enjoyed our stay and found it to be the perfect midpoint to explore all the nearby towns. Merritt was such an awesome and nice host, we will definitely return to this house when we come to Maine again as long as it’s not already booked. We were definitely sad to leave once our trip was over.

As appealing as the home looks online, in person we found it even better. A prefect setting; exactly what we were seeking as a destination to celebrate our 30th anniversary

We just returned from a fantastic week at this beautiful property. The house is lovely - comfortable and attractive furniture, great bed, well-stocked kitchen, and the view is unparalleled. We spent hours on the deck reading, birdwatching, and just relaxing. Even when we had remote work to do, the WIFI was excellent. Unlike the many other places we've stayed, we did have to go out for some basic supplies (sponge, paper towels, tissues, etc.), but that is just a minor detail that you can prepare for in advance. Great walking trails to explore with our pup just off the property and that area of the coastline is spectacular. We returned to the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, which we always enjoy and purchased great crab and fish from the local fish market as well as lobster from the Tenants Harbor Lobster Coop. Merritt is an outstanding host and a wonderful person. She did everything possible to make us feel comfortable and was extremely reachable when needed. You will love this house. We hope to return!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to celebrate our 50th. Every day we saw eagles perched on the trees nearby or swooping over the water fishing. We saw loons and heard their calls. We watched lobster boats coming and going and had views of two lighthouses--all from the deck. We (and our dog!) thoroughly enjoyed the trails through the woods above the house. The house has a spacious, open design with ocean views from every room and from the large deck. We ate in all week so we appreciated the well-equipped kitchen. All in all we had a wonderfully relaxing week and plan to visit again.

Lovely home in a spectacular setting, sitting above the Penobscot Bay and surrounded by woods! Beautiful sunrises, access to incredible private trails through the woods. Isolated and private yet a quick trip to quaint Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde, and east drive to Rockland and the Farnsworth. House is roomy, well-equipped, comfortable, with stunning views and a perfect deck! Host is prompt, friendly, and very helpful. A great place to enjoy the coast of Maine. And dogs are welcome!

Can't get any better than this! Our third time here and still our favorite! Right on the ocean, so falling to sleep every night to the sound of the waves against the rocks - wonderful! Very private; at the end of the road, not visible from the road, nearest neighbors not visible. Expansive views from EVERY room in the house; just walls of windows! Fully equipped house with everything you'd ever need. Outstanding wooded trails for the pups right outside the front door! Close to some great local restaurants as well as to Rockland for addl restaurants and shopping needs. The property owner stayed in touch to ensure everything was going well. Cannot speak highly enough of this great property.

Harbor Heaven
This house is one of a kind! I don’t think I will ever come across a stay with views of the ocean and total privacy like this one. The house is spacious and clean with a very well equipped kitchen. The deck is expansive and the place to be at any time of day. Even though our visit was during the off season, there was plenty to do and good places to eat! Without a doubt, I would love to come back and stay here again! 😊

Perfect secluded getaway
Our 2nd time here. Still the most perfect site for us. Right on the ocean, expansive views from every room, secluded end of the road so very private, well off the road, groomed wooded trails practically right out the front door. Every home accommodation inside. Fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms! Close enough to Rockland and to several great local restaurants (we definitely had our fill of lobster!). We and our 2 border collies LOVE this place! We're already scheduled to come back.

The location is picture perfect . The only way to be closer to the water would be on a boat. Sitting on the deck admiring the view was our favorite activity. The cottage is bright , airy and comfortable. We enjoyed exploring the trails with our dog. We marveled at two eagles frolicking in the air on a particularly windy day. Overall a very relaxing and delightful week.
The kitchen would benefit from a new toaster.

What a wonderful home! Great places to just relax on the deck or walk the trails. So many good lobsters shacks and restaurants. We are generally wine drinkers but the beer selection was irresistible. Beaches for the dogs and lighthouses for humans. Highly recommend!

This charming little house is light and airy, nicely furnished and comfortable, set in a beautiful spot at the end of a dead end road. The view of the water, complete with lobster pots, boats going by, and dramatic morning skies, was gorgeous from almost everywhere in the house and on the deck. We loved sitting out there with a cup of coffee, watching the light change and the lobstermen chug out to check their pots. We had been longing for a dose of the sea and this was the perfect spot for it! The location on the coast is wonderful, as well, with easy access by car, bike and ferry to the small, picturesque villages of Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde, as well as Monhegan Island, North Haven, Rockland, Rockport and Camden. We had some great bike rides around the area, dipping in and out of little harbors and through the villages, stopping for lobster rolls and grilled clams at places like McLoons Lobster Shack and the Dip Net, and enjoyed a spectacular hike around Monhegan. (Note that Maine, like every attractive tourist destination in the US, is suffering from a pandemic-related labor shortage and huge demand, so eating out or getting on a ferry requires some patience and good will, but it is well worth it.) The owner, Merritt, was helpful, accessible and very pleasant to deal with. There was some recent landscaping work that left the approach to the house a little raw, but that will soon grow in, and the house itself was unaffected. This lovely place makes a great base and we hope we can return soon, to enjoy the amazing view and continue exploring this beautiful area.

Bliss by the sea
The sound and view of the ocean from this lovely house is like balm for the soul. Peaceful and mesmerizing, the location is unbeatable. The many windows on the first floor let in light and a panoramic view of the sea. Sitting on the wide back porch you feel like you are on the bow of a ship. Lobster boats amble by, birds swoop down for their catch, and we caught sight of a majestic eagle.
The house is very comfortable and well designed. We had everything we needed. A short drive to Port Clyde and a reasonable one (1/2 hour) to Rockland were among the several places we most enjoyed. Check out Drift Inn Beach at low tide. This house was very hard to leave at the end of our stay.

The location is gorgeous. So very quiet and the trails and adjacent woods are magical. One morning we clocked 2 miles of hiking just around the property! With sweeping views, a sunny deck, and oversized windows we enjoyed the ocean every day. The wood stove is very cozy and there are so many thoughtful touches around the house — quality bedding and linens, comfortable beds, nice dishware. We brought in our own water for tea and coffee. And the owner was very gracious in helping us with an internet situation. I think the only caveat for the WiFi-dependent is that the internet is quite slow (realm of 8 mbps) and you may want to download bigger items (movies, a new season of Caillou...) ahead of time. All around, it was a restorative stay when we needed it most! Highly recommend the blueberry pie from Jesse’s bakery in Port Clyde and meals from Ancho Honey. We hope to return again.

We have stayed in Tenants Harbor several years at a different property. We love it there because it is not touristy, is beautiful and all the people we meet are delightful.
We were both thrilled with the communication from Merritt as well as the house itself. It was open, clean, peaceful and perfect. The kitchen was well stocked, the furnishings were comfortable and the house was very clean. They were even lupines and daisies fresh cut from the gardens waiting for us!
The trails in the woods are wonderful and well-maintained. The deck is perfect, albeit very sunny, but there’s an umbrella and a charcoal grill in the basement, which were easy to extract from the bulkhead.
We stayed with our two dogs who were also very happy and spent most of their time on the deck or on the trails. There is a dog park nearby in Thomaston and Drift Inn beach is also dog -friendly, which made for a fun vacation for them, too.
We are already planning our next getaway! Our grateful thanks to Merritt and her family for sharing their beautiful cottage.

Property sits secluded on the cliffs of the Atlantic Ocean. Home has a very New England feel - windows open - so we listened to surf crash on rocks day and night — mattress - super comfortable. — best sleep! Early morning sunrises - paint the horizon in magical colors as lobster fishermen in their boats check there traps. General store — great place — a few minutes drive — live lobster by the pound $7 to $9 a pound. Large lobster pot in home for steaming lobster. Minutes from Marshall Point Lighthouse - same one as in the Forest Gump movie. Minutes from Spruce Head Island and the famous Mcloons Lobster Shack. Claws in Rockland has a lobster bisque that is the best I have ever eaten! — art museum and golf. About 2 hours drive to Acadia Nation Park and Bar Harbor -& than an hour drive to Camden. We had a great experience. Highly recommend.

My husband and I just finished a three week stay at Merritt’s incredible home. Maine is such a special place, and this house really represents so much of what makes Maine unique. The views from the home are truly breathtaking. The sea stretches on for miles and the sound of the crashing waves on the rocks below is so relaxing, I slept better there then I had in months. Around the home there are incredible trails that are maintained by Merritt’s family. We walked them everyday with our dog and we all couldn’t get enough. It’s so peaceful and a wonderful place to be active and feel restored. We met some of Merritt’s family and friends along the quiet road leading to the house (the house is really tucked away and feels so private) and everyone was very welcoming and kind. The house itself is very clean and comfortable. The huge windows in the living area are the best place to watch the ocean (other then the large deck), which is equally beautiful in sunshine or rain. I highly recommend a stay at Merritt’s to celebrate everything that makes Maine so unique!

Most relaxing week of our lives.
This rental has it all: gorgeous location, comfortable beds, well-appointed kitchen, trails through the woods! Exactly as described and pictured, Merritt has created a beautiful home here. The sound of the waves on the rocks lulled us to sleep each night, and was the soundtrack to several daytime naps. A built-in white noise machine! Blissful. And exactly what we needed after a difficult year.

Beautiful view and relaxing getaway
Merritt’s home is perfectly located with stunning views of the Altantic and amidst nature. It’s the last property on the dirt road and is adequately supplemented with everything that you would need for a comfortable stay. We woke up every morning with an amazing view of the sunrise and sound of water hitting the rocks below. There are a couple of trails nearby to hike. The kitchen is well equipped to prep meals, coffee etc. Merritt was very pleasant and responsive to deal with. One of evenings we had an issue with the heat and she was prompt to send a heat maintenance to help us out. All in all we had a great stay and we are planning to stay there again in future.

Beautiful and relaxing spot
I loved staying here so much. The setting is truly stunning - the views of the ocean were breathtaking and so idyllic. The layout of the house was beautiful, the decor and design was classic, and it only took a couple of minutes to childproof by putting rubber bands over the cabinet knobs! We made fires in the wood stove every night and cooking was a breeze in such a well equipped kitchen. I felt instantly at home there and didn’t want to leave. I can’t wait to come back in the future. What a gorgeous spot.
