Gorgeous views! The most incredible sunrise and sunset views! Howler monkeys wake you in the morning. Birds glide round you through the day making you feel like you’re living on a perch on a cliff. The views are endless. And you can see them right from the kitchen. The pool is gorgeous. Very clean and well kept and a nice size. Kitchen well equipped though no oven. They got a new barbecue while we were there. Nearby beaches were gorgeous! San Miguel beautiful!! Coyote best soft waves to surf. Family oriented beaches.
Property is remote and there are many critters from frogs to caterpillars. A scorpion kept coming back and so we finally got rid of it. But be prepared to see bugs.
Property manager is a wonderful fellow!! He and his wife made us Christmas tamales and brought a Christmas tree—so kind. Water from shower was hot most times. No ac was not a problem with breeze.
Steep but easy road to property. The travel from Sámara was no problem. South to Santa Teresa after coyote there were river crossings but many people doing them.
Loved this place.

This is our second stay at Luna Azul. We visited with a larger group in 2016 and knew we had to stay when we returned to the area. Unfortunately there were only 2 nights that weren’t booked during our stay otherwise we would have stayed much longer. The view of the property is amazing and the infinity pool takes perfect advantage of the view. The outside area is so relaxing with hammocks and chairs and great breezes. Kitchen is well stocked, beds are comfortable and caretaker is friendly and available. One drawback is that the area is very remote. Love the peace and quiet but need to ensure you plan your groceries etc. A few nice beaches a short drive away.

If you're looking for the Four Seasons, keep looking. But if you want a genuine CR experience with an amazing view, great owners and caretaker then book Luna Azul.
It was exactly was I was looking for - private, remote but with everything you need. Unbelievable, quiet beaches within 10 min drive and wonderful sunsets by the pool.
Beautiful property with fruit trees and abundant wildlife. I saw macaws, deer, iguanas and howler monkeys just on the Luna Azul grounds.
I'll be back and you should go!

Had an absolutely wonderful stay here! The pool and view are incredible. It’s hard to tell from the photos how big the pool is—it’s not for swimming laps but it’s a very nice size for floating and splashing around. The water temperature was a very nice 84/85F—just perfect for floating for hours. The caretaker and Domino the dog were fantastic. I was concerned about acclimating to the heat since we were coming from Colorado in February but it really was not an issue. I highly recommend doing a tour with Mike at the Jungle Butterfly Farm—probably one of the best tours I’ve ever done. Thanks for sharing this amazing house!

Stunning views. Beautiful home and property. Had San Miguel Beach all to ourselves. 5 star restaurant 10 minutes away. Antonio the caretaker is AMAZING. We will be returning!

I'll start by saying the pictures of the views don't do this property the justice it deserves. Breathtaking is an understatement. The pool is also substantially better than what pictures portray so you can expect to truly relish in your time outdoors. The other major bonus is the indoor/outdoor kitchen so you can enjoy cooking without feeling enclosed. We had a hiccup during our check-in due to the fact that the groundskeeper and cleaners were expecting us a day later. That was tough after a very long drive through rural coastland with kids. Also, be prepared that your access to good food options, including fresh groceries, is very limited so I recommend this place for people who genuinely enjoy cooking (the kitchen has everything you need, including seasonings), probably less so for those who want to experience local cuisine. Overall, we had an outstanding experience thanks to Antonio (caretaker) and the true uniqueness of this property compared to other more tourist-safe options.

Having traveled all over the world, when I came across this property I knew it was going to be phenomenal, from the pictures alone. When we arrived, it was more breathtaking than we had imagined!!! the property is pristinely managed by the on-site Caretaker and his wife. They are fantastic people and their main goal was to make sure we had everything we needed for our entire stay, which they achieved and exceeded our expectations throughout our entire 12-day stay. The owners of the property stayed in touch with me throughout the stay as well to ensure our scheduled massages and meals went without a hitch, and there were no issues. The area is great for adventure seekers and folks looking for a peaceful retreat. We spent several days lounging on the property, and other days experiencing some of the amazing tours in the area such as gyrocopters, deep sea fishing, four wheelers, horseback riding, and the list goes on. There are several highly rated restaurants in the area as well, and the food was fantastic everywhere we went. The owners have worked to provide a tremendously expansive information packet to provide you after you book to streamline travel and things to know in the area, ranging from activities to groceries and fuel.
In summary, the majestic appeal of Luna Azul and the people responsible for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing have made it impossible not to Re-book as soon as we possibly can. I see several more trips to this property in our future! 100% 10 out of 10. You will not be disappointed.

We absolutely loved staying at this home! The home was very clean, well maintained, and comfortable. The description of this property, including driving here was spot on. (The driveway is steep but once you drive it for the first time it is easy, we never even had to use 4x4) Antonio, the on-site manager was amazing. He kept the pool and outdoor living space nice and clean. He talked with us about the area, places to go, the animals, and living here. He knew we were excited to see the monkeys, birds and different wildlife and would let us know when they were close by. We could sit and watch to howler monkeys eat and frolic from the front yard! It is a very laid back destination with really nice people, beautiful beaches, a few restaurants and a little store just down the road. If you want an amazing place to relax and explore, I highly recommend this home!

The driveway to this house was the highway to hell! It was super scary and not paved, no matter how many times you went up and down you do not get used to it, God Forbid you get a rainstorm or have to drive up this driveway in the dark. The house needs a lot of maintenance, water pressure in one of the bathrooms was nonexistent for hot water. No air conditioning makes sleeping there not a pleasant experience, no reason why he couldn’t install mini splits many houses around there have them. You sweat at night and then you get cold because you’re wet, and all your clothes become moist in your suitcase. Of course that was my mistake for not reading clearly that there is no air conditioning. The main feature of the house is the gorgeous views , and the swimming pool is very nice too however, the pool light only work the first day we were there, after that no good, send the owner a message through WhatsApp as requested and no answer, didn’t even bother to respond. The groundskeeper Antonio was a dream, he was super super nice and very helpful. The town around here is very isolated and to do anything you have to drive more than 1.5 hours on horrible roads. Do not attempt to go to this house without four-wheel-drive. Very disappointing in our stay. The owner also keeps the washing machine locked up so you have no access to it unless you ask the groundskeeper to use it however there is no dryer. Wish I could add pictures so you can compare how it really looks to what he has on his website.

Amazing Place
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful location with a fantastic view of the coastline. Great pool to float around and cool off in. Antonio and Marialos are wonderful hosts. Antonio gave us a tour of the property - live cashews, avacoados and fresh oranges - amazing!

This was by far the best place we have stayed in a long time. Beautiful, secluded, amazing 360 degree views at all hours, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, full bathrooms in every room, and did I say amazing views and fruit trees throughout?! Antonio (on-site manager) was welcoming, helpful, thoughtful, kept to himself unless we needed something, and passionate about the property. We drove up the driveway and immediately jumped out of the car and ran to take pictures of the sunset it was so beautiful. We had some tire issues and Antonio took us to a local shop and we got our tire fixed. We purchased some tamales and they were made locally and were super tasty. We brought food to cook, had cocktails in the infinity pool, went to the beach, hiked the property built and guided by Antonio, and even got on-site massages! It was the perfect vacation spot! The only regret is not staying longer and not ordering food far enough ahead of time so we could eat more local food.

Luna Azul (Blue Moon) is a nice 3 BR home overlooking grasslands and beach on the west, and mountains on the east. Its surrounded by fruit and coconut trees and beautiful and wonderful flora and fauna. Every morning you will wake up to birds and monkeys and warm sun light through the eastern windows. There is a terrace, that is where you want to be in the morning with your cup of coffee. And during sunset spend it in the pool watching the sun go down over the beach. We enjoyed looking at beautiful white cows and horses grazing in the fields below. Beaches Bejuco and Corazalito are close by to the house. Both are good places to go. Up north is the beautiful Carrillo and Punta Islita. Down south is the beaches of San Miguel (surfing) and Cayote. The house has a very well equipped kitchen and other amenities. Please keep in mind this is country side and up hill. The care taker's house is few feed downhill and Antonio is a wonderful person and very helpful, we do not speak Spanish yet, but with help of google translate we were able to communicate at ease. The infinity pool with an outdoor shower is remarkable. The cloths line with clips in the terrace helps during long stays.

The overlook view of the ocean from this property was amazing. Antonio was very helpful with anything we needed. Very clean and pool was everything we needed during our stay. Would definitely stay again.

Getting there was an experience. Be prepared for a lot of unpaved roads. However, the drive is so worth it to stay here. The views are breathtaking, the house was spotless, & the pool glorious.
We were hoping for a peaceful, quiet vacation to rest & recharge. This property more than fit the bill.
And Antonio, the caretaker, is the greatest find of all time. He is so helpful & caring about anything you might need. He even came to get us when he saw a troop of howlers in a tree right by the the drive. It was fantastic!
Lastly, it wouldn’t be fair to not mention Antonio’s dog, Domino, who he graciously shared with us. He would just appear to check on & give us some wonderful doggie loving.
Truly an amazing stay.

Wonderful property and location
We stayed at Luna Azul for just a few days. I was looking for a private retreat where we could relax for a few days. This property fit the bill. The information provided by the owner a head of time was incredibly helpful. The care taker was there to help with any issues that came up during our stay. Thank you to all who made this an amazing stay.

Remote Relaxation
We just finished an outstanding stay at Luna Azul in December 2019. The house was very clean and comfortable and the pool, deck and and the view to the ocean were spectacular. Although it feels remote when driving to the house, we found that local restaurants and places to buy groceries and things were easily accessible. Playa San Miguel was an easy 10 minute drive away. Mike was a great communicator and provided detailed answers to all of my many questions (his guide to the property had an enormous amount of detail) and his local caretaker, Antonio, was very helpful with local knowledge and activities. We are already hoping to return again next year!

Beautiful House for Rest, Seclusion
We enjoyed an amazing and restful week at Luna Azul! Everything about this property was impressive, especially considering its location off the beaten path.
Mike was very responsive with information regarding the property, the country, local beaches (Playa San Miguel was our favorite), restaurants, and other activities.
Without a doubt the caretaker, Antonio, and his family was the most pleasant surprise. They were such gracious hosts! We'd love to return, simply to spend more time with our new friends.
If you enjoy peace and quiet, watersports, hammock siestas, and poolside dinner, you'll love a stay at Luna Azul.

Best house we've ever rented!
When we got there, we never thought it was going to be the best house we've ever rented, I mean THAT VIEW! You can see the ocean almost from every room of the house! No people around, just nature! 100% Private and relaxing.
The house has everything you need for cooking and sleeping. Fully equipped!
I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the awesome view, sun, fresh air and birds songs, not to forget the most beautiful SUNSET you've ever seen!
This house is perfect for people who are looking for a private and relaxing getaway, surrounded by nature and family or friends.
You are going to feel like in paradise!
Thanks Mike, Juan and Allan for sharing your house with us! We are definitely coming back!
And for all of you reading this comment from another country and planning to travel to Costa Rica, I guarantee you it would be better than any 5 star hotel ; )

Outstanding commodities with an unbeatable view!
From the very beginning the guests Mike and Alan were super helpful and attentive. They kindly followed up on our questions and made sure we had everything clear and ready before we arrived to the property.
Once at Luna Azul we were absolutely impressed by both the house and the view - the comfort of the rooms, the spaces to chill and hang out with your family or friends, the amplitude of the second floor deck, the perfectly setup kitchen with everything you need to make yourself at home.. it is a top property for a comfortable vacation and I would definitively recommend anyone to extend your stay for a few days to enjoy this place at its fullest!
If you are looking for a nice retreat from the crowds with a very exclusive view of the Nandayure Pampa and coast - this is the right place!
There are a lot of nearby beaches surrounded by nature and the local towns have small markets to refill in case you run out of anything - only about 20 minutes drive from the house. Perfect location to have multiple choices for entertainment and needs.
The property caretaker Antonio was super Pura Vida - he kindly came by everyday to make sure we had all we needed and keep things tidy, but also provided a lot of useful tips and recommendations about the area, places to go, places to eat and what to do. He even helped us coordinate some fresh fish for our New Year's dinner - it was amazing to count on him!
Thank you for your kindness and for letting us enjoy such a beautiful house and experience.

What a Fantastic Place
So glad we chose this fantastic property to spend our last two weeks in Costa at. The other properties (3) had wonderful views and provided a serene and tranquil environment but none matched that of Luna Azul! The view is magical; mountains surround you and a fantastic vista with a palm lined shore greet you every morning with the amazing colors of the sunrise sky, and even in July the sunsets lit a fire in the sky with brilliant colors. So glad the owners saw the special beauty of this location and decided to build a lovely home that they're willing to share with visitors like us! To top it all off, they found a jewel of a caretaker in Antonio and his family. They went above and beyond in making our stay enjoyable! If you are looking for a private paradise you will find it at Luna Azul!

Would go back!
Our family (2 young girls, grandma, husband and wife) just returned from a wonderful week at Luna Azul. Stunning views of the coast and such a great, remote location (highly recommend 4 wheel vehicle for the dirt roads). We enjoyed exploring a different beach each day. Also made it to the local coffee shop, horseback riding, butterfly farm and macaw reserve. Antonio's family was lovely and our girls enjoyed playing with their daughter and dog. The pool was perfect as were the hammocks. We highly recommend the house and the location if you are looking to get away from crowds. Just keep in mind that you are in nature-so you might see some insects, bugs and of course monkeys!

Our second stay -- gets better each time!
After staying for only 3 nights 2 years ago, we returned to this wonderful villa on the hill for a full week in January 2016. The home is spacious, the kitchen well-equipped, and the views are beyond compare. Every evening we floated in the private pool watching the beautiful sunsets over the Pacific. The owners are great and very easy to work with and once on site Antonio and his family (the caretakers) are wonderful people and always available to help. Great memories are made here. Highly recommended.

Recently enjoyed my third visit and already planning to return for the fourth!

Only Place You Want to Stay in the Area!
There are only a couple other options in the area that have views, but neither is as nice or as private. This place is like having your own hotel. Kitchen is very well equipped so you can enjoy cooking with all the fantastic local ingredients. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms so each guest can have privacy. We were there in arguably the hottest time of the year and not having A/C was not an issue, as there were plenty of fans and the house actually receives a good amount of breeze off the ocean all night. If your looking for unspoiled Costa Rica and privacy this is the place. We'll be back.

Fabulous week !
Absolutely fabulous in every way!
House is perfect for privacy, view, and amenities. Antonio (caretaker) literally took care of our every need including fresh eggs chicken and fish and arranged multiple activities for us. Will totally go again!

Family vacation July 2014 at Luna Azul
Extraordinary view and comfort. We were totally relaxed on day 2, the serenity of the beautiful property, comfortable beds and care of the grounds keepers lending to the much needed escape. Next time I'll fish day 1 or 2 and surf the rest of the vacation. Highly recommended destination.

My husband & I stayed at Luna Azul from 2/29/14-3/4/14. I wish I were there now! The house is beautiful and the patio was divine! The furnishings inside and out were very comfortable. We spent all our time outside only going in to go to bed. The sunsets were spectacular with 4 monkeys playing in the tree next to the pool at the same time. Antonio and his wife were quite welcoming and made our stay very nice. My husband and I have been traveling throughout the Caribbean and Central America for many years and I have to say that this is the safest we have ever felt. We felt comfortable enough to leave the slider open at night. The hill that the house is on is too steep to try to climb and any cars must go through the locked gate @ Antonio's house. In fact the whole area is very safe. I was a little skeptical about no air conditioning in the bedrooms, however I wouldn't have used it if it was there. The breezes at night are heavenly, we even used a blanket a few of the nights! We went to local restaurants and hotels for meals and drinks and there were very few other tourists there. The beaches are beautiful and we were often the only people on them. I highly recommend this property for a relaxing vacation. We can't wait to go back!
