The room was clean.

This hotel and their standard double room don't meet some of the minimum criteria for 4-star, neither for 3-, 2- and 1-star (Offical German DEHOGA criteria). 1-star: - Possibility to darken the room -> The hotel's dark curtains were semi-transparent and covered about 50% of the window width. 2-star: - Bilingual staff -> Some had little English, they didn't understand "air conditioning". The messages sent via Booking.com were only in German, and contained contradictory information with 3 different check-in time limits. 3-star: - A seat per person -> The double room only has one basic chair. - Pen and notepad -> No. 4-star: - 16-hour staffed reception service -> After 21:00 there is no reception service, I doubt they reach 16-hour service. - Extra comfort seat with a side table -> Impossible to fit in the tiny room. There are other factors that are not mandatory but count as points for the overall star score: - Size of the room -> The rooms are tiny, 14 sqm, including the bathroom, which is even tinier than the room. For reference, typical 4-star hotel rooms in Germany are 22 sqm. - In Google Maps it says all rooms have air conditioning, in Booking.com it says only some of them. The reality is that they called air conditioning to the fan that pushes an imperceptible amount of air through the heat radiator. The temperature was unbearable, our room kept over 30 degrees all night with the window open and no fan. - Tiny 80 cm bed. Minimum for 1-star hotel. - The room door did not block any noise from the corridor, other guests speaking seemed to be in our room. - The bathroom apart from being tiny had no ventilation or window, it literally felt like a sauna, extremely hot and humid. There was a bit of mould growing on the ceiling. - The check-out was at 11:00, unusual for a 4-star.

The design and furniture of the room (wooden) gives the room a very warm feel. The restaurant is awesome. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a nice park around the corner. Despite the distance to the city center, fairly efficient public transit.

The room was far too hot, and we never figured out why. The breakfast was somewhat limited, and especially the packed, supermarket type bakery items (croissants etc) were not appropriate of a 4* hotel. If you pay a cheap rate, it’s ok.

It’s a nice location - staff was nice and they did offer us some vegan food options at breakfast - nice garden - pet friendly and understanding of my service dog in training. Wifi seemed stable.

We did end up getting a slight room upgrade because the rolladen in our room were broken but for the room we had originally booked it was really expensive for the size / etc. also I originally booked for one person and it was 116 euro for 2 nights and then because my cousin came with me (I’m disabled and needed some extra help) it jumped up to 150 euro - despite the fact that it was the same room / bed type and the breakfast itself is supposed to only be 10 euro a person (according to Booking.com) and the breakfast is kinda mediocre (not worth the extra cost IMO) but it’s a great location and the garden is really nice.

Very friendly staff, easy self check-in. Simple but perfect amenities in room. Excellent value. Would definitely stay again!
