My criteria for a quick trip with my step-daughter was 2 bathrooms, central location, and close to a beach. This seemed to fit the bill. Not going to speak of the location except to say there’s NOTHING closer than 15 minutes. Not a gas station, nothing. And the beach is a walk—you can kinda see it through the living room windows and nowhere else. Upon arriving one of the bathrooms had VERY obviously not been cleaned and the sliding glass door had been left unlocked—meaning I was responsible for several hours while the house was totally accessible. There are passive aggressive notes everywhere—I get it—being the adult I had to prove I was to rent this place, doesn’t automatically come with common sense but if you don’t trust renting out your place, don’t. There is a count of how many pieces of each silverware there are in the drawers. The bedding had stains and rips and the downstairs shower was more of a chamber that wouldn’t accommodate more than the average sized person. This is a tri-level home. So the lowest level bedroom was freezing while the upstairs, where the Thermostat was, was normal and I could never correct that. Extra blankets in the closet were stained and musty. I had hoped there would be some basics that a hotel doesn’t provide—beach chairs, laundry detergent, maybe even coffee! But instead I was afraid to use anything based on ALL THE SIGNS EVERYWHERE telling me how “expensive it will be for you!” If I used it wrong. It was like staying at your most dreaded relatives house—dated and could never get comfortable.

This is a very nice home located in a quiet area a few blocks from the beach. The home was very clean and had all the essentials we needed. The view of the ocean from the deck is wonderful. We also enjoyed watching the pelicans as they flew around the water.

Heron’s Nest was perfect for relaxation and comfort. The house is lovely, the view so pretty, and the back yard peaceful. The community is small and quiet. This was our first visit to Cape Meares. My pre-school grandson wanted to come back before we left. He is right. We will return.

We loved our trip to the herons nest! It was a great home base for spending time in quiet cape meares and visiting the lighthouse/octopus tree, waking the agate laced beaches and lunch at the schooner in Netarts. Watched a herd of Roosevelt elk from the main room for over an hour.

The house was lovely, the neighborhood was great. We called for assistance with the TV and the technician that came wore his shoes in the house they were muddy and left muddy prints on the carpet that we had to clean up. It was really disappointing that he wasn’t aware of the no shoe policy in the house we didn’t recognize the mud on the shoes until after he left.

The house was as advertised on the website to a T . Great location and very comfortable. Great view of the ocean from the deck. A short walk to the beach. The property management could pay closer attention to the cleanliness. Although it wasn’t bad, it could have been better. Will be back again.

Perfect setup for a family of 4-5 w/ two bedrooms, one of which has three beds including a bunk. We had a fabulous week and highly recommend The Heron's Nest. It's a great place to disconnect from the world and reconnect w/ family. No cell coverage means limited phone use for the kids! yay! (but the Wi-Fi coverage is great if you need it). Please note this is in a relatively remote location so you need to bring all of your food -- closest store or restaurant is about 15 minutes. Well stocked kitchen allowed us to cook three great meals a day.

Great little neighborhood right by the beach. We truly enjoyed this quiet little place away from busy holiday traffic.

This is the cutest little coastal neighborhood tucked away in Tillamook Bay. We were here two nights: roasted marshmallows, saw deer and bunnies, walked to Cape Meares (lighthouse, octopus tree), strolled the beach, played in the sand, kayaked on the lake, BBQ'd dinner and ate out on the deck listening to the ocean. We had fun teaching my 5-yr old about VHS tapes which all worked great :-) This place has everything you need!

This property is in a beautiful spot and is basically as described in the listing--it's a great place to spend a relaxing vacation on the Oregon Coast. That said, the property management leaves a bit to be desired. The problem started when I didn't receive a code to get into the property. I sent the manager a message through VRBO about 36 hours before the beginning of the reservation and didn't get a response. Then I got a text message (purporting to be from the manager) saying that the house had been cleaned. I responded to the text, asking about the code, but still didn't get a reply. It took about 45 minutes on the phone with VRBO (a few hours before we were going to leave town) to sort out that mess.Once we got to the property, there were only a few small problems. First, the instructions we got from the manager contained the wrong wifi password. I again responded to the text message asking about the wifi, but received only silence in response (eventually we discovered a small piece of paper in the dining room with the correct password). The property was advertised as including a DVD player. There were actually 2 DVD players, both of which were broken. While mildly annoying (given the price we paid), these problems certainly didn't prevent us from having a great time.I'm left with the impression that this is a pure investment property, with contract management that isn't particularly focused on the guest experience. That's not to say you shouldn't rent this place--it's comfortable and the location can't be beat. But if you have a choice between this and a comparable property that's owner-managed, go with the other one.

Very nice rental and we love Cape Meares. Was our first time in this particular house but we've been coming to Cape Meares for years. The house is super clean and the kitchen is very well supplied -- the best of all the rentals we've tried. Very comfortable. Our only disappointment was that there was hardly any hot water for showers, even though we turned the hot water heater on at the fuse box the evening we arrived. Not sure if it has to be on for several days in order to heat up a good supply of water. Please consider turning the hot water on well before guests arrive.

Perfect vacation home!
This home was beautiful as was the location. We want to come back and stay every year. It was spacious, sparkling clean, and had nice touches like mini shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry detergent, etc. provided for us. The wall of windows gives the most spectacular view of the ocean which you can see in between the houses in front of you. The backyard backs up to the forest, where we were regularly blessed with visits from a deer family.
A couple things could make this home even better:
Have some dressers or drawer storage available in the bedrooms, there was only closet space with some hangers, so our pajamas and other small items had to stay in our bags on the floor which was kind of a pain.
Put a ceiling fan in the main living area, since the windows don't open, to give the air some movement, as it got really hot in there during the late afternoon.
The toaster was wonky and didn't work unless you held the lever on the left side down for a bit, think it's time for a new one.
These small things do not in any way impact how amazing this location is! We will be back!

Cape Meares Gem
My family and I stayed here for 5 nights; would definitely recommend to others. Really liked that the living space is upstairs; offered views of the water when the fog rolled out. Walking distance to a great locals only beach. The home is well appointed and included all the amenities and resources we expected. There is a great big bin of beach toys in the garage, which my 2 year old LOVED! The little fire pit area is perfect for nightcaps and s'mores. It was an ideal location to feel unplugged, but close enough to "civilization" for daily trips to hikes, Tillamook Creamery, and other coastal towns.

Perfect place to spend Spring Break!
Our family of six (My wife and I and four children) stayed here for Spring Break (late March) 2018. The home met or exceeded our expectations. The location within a few blocks of the beach and adjacent to the forest is amazing. There were deer traipsing through the yard and a herd of elk bedded down in a meadow nearby. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked and spacious. If you plan to watch many movies, make sure to bring your own DVDs or use the RedBox in town. The in-home DVD library has only a few movies, but there are ten or twelve VHS tapes (mostly classic Disney animated features) as well.
