Hotel Marko

Really a super nice "old school" charming hotel. Staff was very nice and helpful. Mr Toni at reception, and the restaurant staff too. The garden is super nice and romantic. In evening it creates a unique atmosphere for dinner. We had the seabass in Piran salt crust, it was the best meal of ours stay in slovenia. A true highlight. Location is super convenient, right next to the best beaches and promenade restaurants in portoroz, and VERY convenient very close to both the boat and bus stops to go/return from Piran (going to Piran with the car is not a good experience, and with the heat it's too far to walk). The Room was very spacious, had a great sea view with a balcony wher we could both sit down. the AC was not super modern but in spite ofa heatwave we had a very good temperature in the room, the baby could sleep with no issues.

The room was kept very well, but had not been renovated in a while. No real issues, but a more modern shower would be nice. The breakfast was also a bit less good compared to the rest of our stay.

The breakfast was delicious. The room was very clean and it had everything you need. The location was perfect. Everything was nearby.

Excellent location for a good price.

The location of the hotel is very central and close to the waterfront. The outside front garden is very charming, with a nice seating area for both the main restaurant and the breakfast area. The hotel provides garage parking (20 Euro per day) with direct elevator access into the hotel.

Overall the hotel feels dated and in need of some investment. I appreciate the style that is trying to be followed is one of the Belle Epoque but in this case the general facilities need some care. The shower is visibly old, the shower door has moldy/worn edges and doesn't close smoothly. The bathroom overall feels dated (and not just in style). The bed is old with a relatively worn mattress. The A/C even on max settings does not work correctly and the room remained quite warm. Whilst the room appeared generally clean we found 2x geckos living on the walls of the room at night - whilst this didn't bother us directly, it does raise the question on internal cleanliness. The breakfast was one of the main disappointments and reason for not giving a better score. Whilst breakfast is included, several items are under supplement, requiring extra pay, such as a barista made cappuccino (5 Euro supplement). The only option is to help yourself from a rest-stop style machine. The selection was poor and when arriving 1 hour before closing most choices were empty and not much was being refilled. The staff at breakfast are unfriendly and clearly frustrated with their work. The breakfast feels very impersonal and like a mass-dining event. All-in-all it was an ok experience but I'd caution the price paid as it was quite expensive very nearby hotels.
