Bedroom (under the bed), bathroom (top of shelves, bathroom closet) and the corner area to the left of the bedroom door on the landing hadn’t been swept or dusted for a long time. Dead bugs, grime and dust under the bed too. Marks and stains on the wall in the bedroom around the window; it needs a fresh coat of paint. Room needs updating . Clothes rack is bent, only one clothes hanger. Although the location is near the Giant Buddha park, the street area around the guest house is dirty. There’s a garbage recycling directly across from the entrance. If the gate could be kept shut, one wouldn’t see it. I was kept awake the second night by people playing a board game downstairs. It lasted until midnight. The main road can be noisy too, but luckily the ac drowned out this noise. Food choices are very limited in this area. A guy was taking a leak right next to the rubbish bins opposite the garden gate in broad daylight. Not the owner’s fault, but it says something about the area. I should have stayed in a hotel in the city instead.

The room smelled unbearably bad, the beds were hard. Bad sound insulation and noisy, messy reception. You can find better hotels in city center at the same price and taxis are super cheap. We wouldnt have stayed, if not the fact that we arrived late at night.

The Peace Inn is a very budget hotel and, as such, is very simple. The location is amazing- I can’t think of anywhere better to stay in Leshan- it’s across the street from one of the ticket offices for the grand Buddha and a 1.5km stroll to the site entry. You can walk across the bridge towards town and find various restaurants. There are also small restaurants and fruit markets in the same street as the hotel which we found handy. The hotel is kept clean and the air-con is great. We were upgraded to a suite so had a lovely living area which was perfect for our family for eating and hanging out. The host family are nice and helpful too.

The bathrooms are those where the shower is in with the toilet so everything gets wet- however, I think this is to be expected for this type of accommodation which is so affordable.

When it says its near to the Buddha its an understatement - we arrived at 4:30, thinking we would visit the following day but we were so close we decided to go for it and got in at 5pm. This meant there was NO ONE there as it was a Sunday eve. Would highly recommend an early evening visit as there were no queues at all and they didn't hurry us out even at 6:30. Back to the hostel - the rooms were basic but comfortable and the shower was hot and had a hair dryer and great cold air con. I expected a lot of noise from reading the reviews but we slept well and even had a lie in once we realised we didn't have to wake up for the Buddha. We weren't sure breakfast was available so we skipped it and visited the veggie restaurant on the parkway path leading to the Buddha. 28¥ buffet opens at 10:30 for lunch. The boss man of the hostel was very kind and knowledgeable about the food in the area and looked after our bags on the second day. If we were visiting Leshan again we would definitely return. The other guests were also Foriegners which was good to know at a time when we've been turned away from other hotels.

I would agree with some recent reviews that this place no longer reflects the pictures and the family have moved in so it's more like a home stay but I wouldn't say that detracts from the feeling of welcome and comfort we got here. Yes, the downstairs is different but the bedrooms are what they look like online and the boss is so friendly and helpful. There did seem to be a bit of an ant problem in our room but it didn't bother us and there was an insect repeller to use. The wifi didn't work for us but we didn't pursue it as our Chinese simcards were fine.

The people at the hotel were friendly, and it was near the Buddha. It felt quaint and more like a home-stay than a hotel.

The hotel seems to have decayed a little bit during the past year. It was nothing like the pictures, and we got the impression that very few people come to the hotel now. It was more of a "home-stay" with the family having spread out downstairs.
