Fantastic location away from noisy civilization, exemplary hospitality, excellent food and drinks, valuable insights and personal advice offered by the landlord, Richard Baerug. In contrast to most hotels and guesthouses in Georgia’s High Caucasus, you may have a rich breakfast at 5 AM, tailored to the needs of mountaineers.

The Grand Hotel is propably one of the most beautiful places to stay in Georgia. Richard, one of the owners, made our stay unforgetable. But first things first. The day before we arrived, he asked us, if and what we want to eat in the evening on our arrival day. When we came there Dinner (a very local dish) was already ready and after an amazing wine (propably the best we hat for a lang time) and Dinner we went to bed. The next days we had a ski-touring guide Richard recommended us. His Name was Shako. This guy is a great guide. Knows propably every centimeter of Swaneti and showed some beautiful places und great ski-touring routes to us. In the evening we had very local und good dinners including wine at the Hotel. On the third day we wanted to make a litte break from touring with Shako (tough routes, but worth it). But Richard asked us in the evening, if we want to do a scenic ski-touring Route the next day with him (direction to Ushba). So we said yes. In total I can say, that this was one of the greatest Tours we did for a long time conerned to the scenic. Lang story short: visit the Grad Hotel Ushba. You will like, even if the price is a litte higher, than other Hotels. PS: Don't be afraid of Tarzan. He is the house dog (pretty big) but very nice.
