I enjoyed the location of the hostel. The air conditioned dorm room was so nice. Having two kitchens and multiple places for showering was a plus as well.

I wouldn't have much to say other than how the fridges were pretty stuffed and they're could have been older items in there, it was really hard to keep track of things in there because they were moved around a lot. They didn't have many events going on either so that would have been nice.

Ya con 4 recepcionistas, primera bien (la que hizo la introducción el primer día), segunda y tercero no quisieron/supieron dar la contraseña de otra red wifi que tienen (que sí llega a los cuartos) porque el wifi que te dan oficialmente no no llega al cuarto. El recepcionista varón me preguntó de mala manera "qué, necesitas wifi para trabajar?" - y le contesté que mis necesidades de wifi no son asunto suyo. La cuarta me hizo mover de una mesa que parecía de uso libre pero aparentemente pertenece a un cuarto privado. Yo estaba poniendo crema solar por 5 minutos - era necesario decirme de moverme?

Large property with 2 kitchens and lots of seating areas. Very social and busy if your into that.

The cleaning ladies threw out all of our groceries from the fridge even though it was clearly labeled with my name. Really sucks when your on a tight budget. Also on a crazy busy dirt road.

Nous avons passé 3 nuits dans ce logement en janvier 2024 Dortoir 4 lits : Pas de wifi dans les chambres Casiers poussiereux Un miniscule couloir sépare les lits, on doit donc ouvrir son casier à tour de rôle, se laisser passer les uns les autres WC / douches : Toilettes souvent sales (les utilisateurs ne sont pas toujours propres mais c'est aussi aux gérants de veiller à la propreté pour l'ensemble des utilisateurs) Evier de la salle de bain qui propage une forte odeur de canalisation Le bidon de savon pour se laver les mains toujours vide (pas de savon dans les cuisines non plus) Cuisines : 2 espaces cuisine mais qui ne suffisent pas vu le nombre de personnes qui cuisinent Des frigos pleins à craquer et vraiment très sales Ambiance : Il y a tellement de monde dans cette auberge que l'ambiance n'est pas vraiment conviviale L'ambiance se veut jeune et cool mais est finalement un peu froide et prétentieuse, chacun fait sa vie de son côté sans trop se saluer tellement il y a de personnes différentes qui défilent Globalement le problème principal est le ratio entre le nombre de client, leur respect des espaces communs et la fréquence de leur entretien par les équipes, et l’ambiance pas chaleureuse C'est vraiment dommage car il y a quelques points positifs (chouette espace commun avec canapés et hammacs, billard), les lits sont confortables, il y a un espace extérieur pour faire sécher ses vêtements et des planches de surf à louer pas trop chères mais cela ne compense pas du tout les points négatifs

Leo was really knowledgeable on the area and helped us book transportation. We rented ATVs to explore the local area which was great fun, I highly recommend!

this is a low, low end hostel for surfers that have only surfing in mind, cool, the room, showers, beds, and kitchen equipment, were all in a horrid state, cockroaches running in cupboards, teflon peeling from appliances, no hot water, dirt ... still cool, just not for us (a family with two 13 old kids) so we asked to cancel and were flat out refused, the conditions were so unbearable that we ended up moving to an airbnb and forfeiting the cost they would not refund, not cool

Superb location! So close to the beach and everything else you need. Great social area to hang out met lots of other travellers. Very good value for the price and enjoyed my stay :)

The room was abit squashed with everyone else’s stuff but you make it work. When I was there the water kept going out. Not much I don’t think the hostel could have done but it was inconvenient at times.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have cool little cabins/tents if you want more privacy or regular dorms. Quiet, immersed in the nature even if close the main road. They have surfboards for rent.

Could have been a bit bigger and the light brighter but still fine. There is not much space in the room.

It was raining into our 10 bed dorm, the washing sink is in the sleeping room and makes sooo many noises. The beds are shaking a lot when someone moves, We had several time no water or power.

The bed was very big. There are howler monkeys in the trees next to the tent.

There is no real parking lot. You have to park your car in front of the gate and leave your keys at the reception so the stuff can repark the car when other guests want to leave with their car. You might have to carry away motor scooters to get your car out of the small path to the street. There was dog poop on the floor of the garden. When paying with card, an additional 13% are charged. (Fortunately we were able to pay through PayPal). Many people were smoking weed and other stuff in the common areas. The hostel is very hard to find. There is only a small sign at the street but no logo or name at the gate, behind which the hostel is. Our tent was very small and the doors were only hard to open and close. The whole room and bathroom was not very clean. As the tent has quite a few number of holes, there are ants and other bugs running around. Do not leave any food in there, as the bugs will enjoy it before you can. The shower only provided us with cold water. The wifi was not working all the time. There was a power outage during our stay. And water was not available for the second half of our stay. Once we asked at the reception, we received two gallons of water to take a shower, flush the toilet,... The bed is very hard. Five minutes away from the beach.

Their social media interactivity is really bad; I left a pair of swim shorts at the hostel, sent multiple messages to them because a friend was going to be travelling to san jose (where I am) and so I was hoping the staff would reply to my multiple whatsapps, fb messages, or messages on booking.com, but nothing. meaning now that that person has gone, and so has any chance of me getting my only pair of swimshorts back. CR is expensive but I’m going to have to fork out for a new pair because of their lack of responsiveness. that’s why I can’t give this stay any more than a 6-7, despite the staff, when there, being really friendly and helpful.

location is just excellent and surf instructors are the best!! They are patient and very professional.. it’s the best spot to learn surf in Santa Teresa

El gato rojas is THE place for all surfers. Right across the road from an array of fun beach breaks at playa carmen, this hostel is where you want to be if surfing, eating, sleeping and a laid back atmosphere is what you are looking for. The crew is fantastic, composed of family members and young people from around the world living and working the pura vida.

The fridges are always quite full in the community kitchen.

Great location for surfers, good waves right across the street on playa del carmen!!!! Nice hang out areas and nice dorms. I stayed in the mixed 6 and the teak wood was nice.

The location was good (5 min walk from the beach) and is right in front a supermarket. The staff was friendly and the hostel has a lot of beautiful green plants.

I didn’t get the room I chose. I picked this hostel because I thought I was getting the room on the picture but ended up getting another dirty little room instead and apparently I wasn’t the only one (other guest said they had the same issue). I was disappointed. When I expressed my frustration they didn’t do anything.

The shower pressure was low and sometimes did not work. For my preference it was loud, difficult to fall asleep early or sleep in.
