Angela picked us up from the airport, which was nice. The kitchen area was clean. There was hot water in the shower, and the toilet flushed properly. There was also a cold bottle of water in the fridge waiting for us. The bedding and towels had a faint bad smell, which could be linked to the washing machine needing a good clean as when we looked it had grime and old washing gunk in it. There are amenities such as a stovetop coffee maker, tea and some assorted cutlery. We asked Angela to make the sofa bed, and she did it, which was very nice that she didn’t forget. Angela also gave us some tips about the island, such as where to go to eat, where to rent a scooter, advice about reservations to the rabbit beach (Isola de Conigli) and so on. There is also a beach umbrella in the property. In general, the rental price of this property in the high season was very cheap, so we thought it was good value for the money.

We arrived in Lampedusa to a barrage of panicked and heated texts and missed calls as Angela had a bit of a breakdown due to our delayed flight. She complained that she didn’t know about the delay, even though she told us to just call when we arrived. This made us feel uneasy from the start and not the best start to our holiday. She also tried to let herself in one morning to see the air conditioner because all other conditioners were leaking on the property, and she had a handyman on-site, so she had to see the unit there and then. We don’t mind the maintenance, things happen, but trying to let herself in after knocking only twice and not giving us time to answer the door was an invasion of privacy. But then, later, she apologised and brought us some really nice cookies. Also, her dogs bark at night and in the mornings. The property windows look upon the living room of the guest property. There’s a privacy curtain, but it doesn’t close all the way. The front door is see-through at night, right through to the street, so there’s not much privacy going in and out of the bathroom. There is no rubbish bin, no hooks for towels. The shower door opens up onto the toilet, which is uncomfortable to get in and out, and there is nowhere to hold your toiletries in the shower. A little shelf would be a welcomed addition. The terrace is small, big enough to hang wet towels. However, whoever lives above hangs their washing too, and then water drips on the washing on the terrace. The walls are dirty and marked with stains all over the property. A bit of care to paint the walls once a year wouldn’t cost much and give the feeling of a maintained property.
