Our stay was fine. There were a few items we expected that were deficient (only 3 dish towels, not enough dish washer soap) but these were resolved by our hosts giving us access to their locked closets. The inside of the house was clean but the outside of most windows had an amazing collection of spider webs which are a bit off putting. The recycle bin at the top of the driveway (Bear proof) is not big enough. When we arrived it was full (waiting for Monday pickup) and there was more in the bin in the garage. After pickup on Monday we filled it up by Wednesday evening and ended up using the garage bin for the rest of the week. The pontoon boat arrangements went well until Friday when we went to the Gas Dock and found it closed. We contacted your boat man and he was very helpful. He filled it on Saturday and sent us a receipt. We reimbursed him through Venmo. He also made a special trip to fix a bolt on the canopy frame that had lost its nut. There were a couple of screws on the kayaks that needed tightening. The owners gave us access to their toolbox so we were able to fix those problems. Overall it went well and we appreciated the support from the owners and the boat man to resolve the problems we did have. Rob Stotz

We loved everything! I think my only complaint would be you can hear everything in the house. And I mean everything. No sleeping late (and I mean past 6:30) with little ones. Also, if you are not in decent shape there are 93 steps to boat deck. Going down is no problem but up can be challenging!

Had to cancel the day of arrival due to real bad weather. The owner very accommodating and was willing to rebook at no charge for a different date during the off season. We ended up not using the home, but we appreciated the offer.

We had an absolute amazing time here! The house itself was great with the well-stocked kitchen, great bedroom layout, and fun things to do like pool and ping pong. And everyone loved the lake amenities - kayaks, paddle boards, floating water mat, and a great deck to sit and play games and just enjoy the lake. Can't wait to come back and spend more time here!

The house was everything we thought it would be...including the 93 steps to the water! Lots of space for everyone. Beds were very comfy. The extra frig/freezers in the game room and in the boathouse were great! The covered decks were perfect for when the rain set in and to enjoy coffee in the AM while everyone else was still asleep. The game room and the pool table and games made the rainy days fun! We rented the boat for the week which was great to have at our disposal from sunup to sundown. Ali was very responsive and easy to communicate with. FYI...there are bears, deer and coyotes in the area. And as someone else said...the steps are no Joke! Think of it as a built in workout! We've been coming to Lake Lure since our kids were toddlers and now they are 21. Another great week at Lake Lure!

Idle Speed was exactly if not better than anticipated. We had ample room for 11 of us and all the amenities plus more than we could have hoped for were provided. Pool table, ping pong, foosball, kayaks, so much to do. This property truly caters to every age level.

Not great at this but this house and its owners deserve an amazing review. The owners were fabulous to work with and the house exceeded our expectations. Great house, great people what more can you ask for? Thanks for allowing us to use you home.

We had a great time with our family at Idle Speed! The hosts were great and the house was just perfect! Beautiful spot on the lake, very clean, lots of great porch space and hang out space! We also enjoyed being close to some great hiking spots and the Chimney Rock area.

Second time we’ve rented, and we loved it even more the second time around!

This was our second time staying at Idle Speed. Ali is wonderful to work with and quick to respond! The house is perfect for a large family- plenty of room to spread . The garage space with the games and tv for watching football was great- plus the space downstairs with the pool table kept everyone busy. We loved sitting on the large deck and watching the kids kayak, paddle board and skip stones! Our son even got engaged on the deck while we watched from above! We will be back next year!

Total of 8 long-time friends stayed and had a great trip. House is a great hangout spot, and renting the pontoon was easy. We grilled out, played cornhole, fooseball, videogames, and poker out in the garage area. Living room/kitchen area perfect for hanging out and cooking/etc while watching football. Screened porches are great too - a nice place to hang out at night and/or read a book in the morning. The stairs down might be steep for young/older folks, but wasn't much of an issue at all for us. (late 30's) Boat worked perfectly, and as an added bonus, we were close to the marina to refuel! Thanks!

Our family had a wonderful stay at Idle Speed. The accommodations were great and our kids loved the game room. We really loved how easy it was for guests to enjoy the lake with plenty of kayaks, paddle boards, and floats ready to use. The cove is perfect to hang out in the water and not have to worry about boat traffic. We would love to return!

Idle speed was the perfect home for our family of 10…4 children ages 5-8 and 6 adults. The house was comfortably decorated, clean, and in a great location situated in a cove, and minutes to the town of lake lure. Ali and Keith were wonderful hosts, readily available when needed.

We had a great week at the Lake! The area is fairly remote so plan for groceries accordingly and expect a true ‘off the grid’ getaway. Great way to connect with family! The boat worked out great and having the paddle boards and kayaks was amazing! Thank you!!

The 104 steps to the lake were a killer sometimes especially if you were carrying a tired child. The only negative is the cleanliness/ floors, cobwebs covering everything. The boat house and the pontoon were really dirty and covered in cobwebs. Really everything outdoors was covered in cobwebs including all outdoor sitting areas. I know it’s in the woods, but I would have thought it would have been cleaned before our arrival!

This house was amazing all around! The drive in was perfect and easily accessible. We traveled in a large sprinter van and it didn’t have any issues with the roads or trees. The house had plenty of room in the living areas and the bedrooms. There are too many balconies to choose from, all very comfortable. The view of the lake from all of them is outstanding! The deck on the boat house is extremely spacious with a fun jumping area into the lake. The garage is converted into a game room and is a nice place to relax while grilling out. We would rebook this in a heartbeat next time we return to the area!

The magic of Idle Speed is a conglomeration of the site, the home and the hosts. Lake Lure is a picturesque backdrop for lounging, swimming and fishing. The house is an unusual mixture of luxury and cabin. Ali is the perfect host in that she is simultaneously helpful and unobtrusive. Only rent this cabin if you want to make memories that will be enjoyed by multiple generations.

This is our 2nd time staying at this property and has become our favorite family/friend annual destination. The house and property are gorgeous. Plenty of space to gather or find your own private quiet space. The garage, pool table, and paddle boards kept our kiddos entertained, busy, and happy throughout our stay. No time or desire for electronics even in rainy days. Kitchen fully equipped to cook in for our group most meals. Chimney Rock super close by for hiking and restaurants.
