Staff and food were excellent

Gute Lage, sehr nette und bemühte Gastfamilie. Ausreichend Parkplätze direkt vorm Haus. Zimmer sind sauber und OK, Bad mit neuartiger EcoFlush-Toilette/etwas knappen Waschbecken. Inkl. Restaurant (wir haben sehr leckeren Fish&Chips mit echt gutem Bier der Orkney-Brauerei genossen). Gutes Frühstück mit original Full Scottish Breakfast auf Bestellung (Ei, Bacon, Sausage, Baked Beans, Tomato+Mushrooms, Haggis...).

We were allocated a large and spacious room within the BnB which from the outside looks nice and is in a good area near to the river.

Prior to arrival we had communicated with the BnB to keep them informed of expected arrival etc. During these Covid times we are aware that proprietors are being let down a lot by guests and so we feel it is only right to ensure they know we are arriving and roughly when. This communication wasn't even acknowledged. On arrival we walked in to find "a man" prone on the sofa in the dining room chatting to another gentleman. It transpired "the man" was the owner. He barely acknowledged us, it was like we were interrupting his conversation! We were then greeted by a young boy who proceeded to book us in etc. He looked as if he was still in junior school. He was pleasant and I know other reviewers have commented "how cute" they thought this was. Personally whilst he did nothing wrong it's just not what we expect. It felt like again we were just not that important to the owner! We were given a menu for breakfast, which is chargeable, and there was no alternative to a full Scottish breakfast being offered except which items within it you do or do not want. The owner seemed surprised when we returned the menu later and said we were not partaking. Having located our room we found the en suite was so small they had fitted the toilet seat on an angle. If it had been put on straight you wouldn't have been able to sit on it! There were two coat hangers, no dressing table or area to put our toiletries etc and no milk for drinks. The milk was forthcoming once we popped back down stairs and the "young boy" apologised whilst the owner continued to lounge across the sofa. On leaving this morning again there was no real acknowledgement from the owner, he just told us to leave the key on the bar. No enquiry was made as to whether we had a good stay. Overall not at all what we expect and to be honest we couldn't wait to leave which is such a shame as the building itself and its location shows great promise.

Our one night stay at Manor House was lovely. We were not able to get in for dinner, but even though the kitchen was closed they made a big bowl of chips for us when we asked. The bar was well-stocked with an award winning gin that was excellent. Our room was very nice with a comfortable bed, sitting area and nice shower. In the morning we had an excellent full Scottish breakfast, and then we were on our way.

Nothing was a problem, the owner and his wife were very honest in their approach to running this boutique hotel, true to their Irish heritage. The daughter booked us in, the father was chef, mum ran the day to day business and the son made us coffee and tea while we waited for a taxi to the railway station, which is not all that far away, but being old and using walking sticks, trudging our luggage was just a bit too far. The room was set up for disabled people and was lovely and clean, a pleasure to stay there. They serve a great menu for dinner and have a full bar for the drinkers. Breakfast was served with all the bonhomie the Irish project, and you won't go away hungry! Highly recommended.

There was a problem checking in at 3pm, the sons vehicle had broken down and Dad had to fix it before he could get back to the Hotel. In saying that, we were given free breakfast for waiting a bit longer! Other than that, absolutely nothing!

The room was large, bright and had a lovely large window.

great river side location everything within walking distance, authentic inside bed were very comfortable and the rooms had everything we needed and extra available if needed, was asked daily if we needed anything for our rooms, the meals were fantastic and very enjoyable, I take my hat of to them fresh and served with smiles from all the staff/ family members

Beautiful house opposite the River Thurso- very welcoming and friendly and nothing too much trouble. Best fish and chips and great breakfast!

The property has very good location, is quiet, the hot water is good and the Staff is very kind and helpful.
