We had a great stay. Our first time to Door County. It is beautiful this time of the year. The property is in a great location to use as home base for the sights and scenes of Door County.

The house was great for our family of five. Lots of space to gather together or spread apart. The wooded lot is super private which we loved. Very close to Sister Bay downtown. The mattress downstairs was great. So nice to sleep well on vacation. 😊 Might be a strange thing to comment on but we’re rented other VRBO cabins where the mattresses are terrible. I also appreciated the ability to access the garage for dry fire wood and replenish supplies such as paper towels as needed. It’s the little things. ❤️ Definitely recommend the stay. 🎉

We were very happy with the cabin - clean and lots of room to gather. The only thing we were a little disappointed with was the access to the lake - we thought when we booked it was right on the water with views from the cabin. Lovely woodsy cabin with trails - enjoyed our stay!😊

Spacious house, the kitchen and adjacent living areas very comfortable. Only disappointment was the beach, we never found it, we turned left out of the driveway and apparently it was to the right. Get specific info from homeowner for the location and access to enjoy this feature.

We loved our stay at this peaceful wooded retreat. The walk to Lake Michigan was very close. The home was clean and nicely furnished. I would definitely recommend this place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Girls Weekend at The Refuge in Sister Bay. The house in the woods and across the road from Lake Michigan was exactly what we were hoping for! The accommodations were perfect for sleeping, relaxing, cooking and exploring! We have been to Door County numerous times over the years and this year was one of our favorites!

The cabin was cozy and exaclty what you imagine a Northwoods cabin to be like! Plenty of relaxing days of hiking in the woods and exploring the neighboring towns. The owners are there definately to make sure you are able to have a great trip in all ways!

We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin. We’ve stayed many times and enjoy the solitude and fireplace. Really appreciated the firewood in the garage (pay per bundle) since Gary took over!

Great cabin set on a beautiful location! Very much enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and how cozy the living area was. The in-floor heating was a bonus. We will be back for another visit!

Our family traveled to Door Co. for a memorial for my late husband. This was a hard time, but our stay at this wonderful home, made our life so much better. I wish we would have had more time, the book collection was so inviting. Games and tv helped keep the young ones entertained. But the highlight was the woods, trails and Lake Michigan waiting to be explored. There was plenty of room for all of us and very convenient to everything we wanted to do while we were there. I would recommend this place again and again, and I hope that we can once again visit this beautiful place in the future.

Our family totally enjoyed our stay, taking walks through the woods surrounding the cabin, watching the sunrise over the lake, and visiting local towns and attractions. The cabin is very roomy and well equipped for cooking, relaxing, and building a campfire outside. It felt very homey and inviting to all of us.

The “Refuge” is appropriately named, this is a cabin that you feel good about returning to at the end of day. Very comfortable, cozy, and located in one of the most private and peaceful locations on Door County.

Perfect place for our family visiting Sister Bay for a wedding and Labor Day weekend. The great room and adjoining screened-in porch were perfect for a family gathering as was the fire ring in the clearing. Also nice was the bunk bed room for our 3 grandsons and the lakefront access for a beautiful view. 10 minutes from downtown Sister Bay! Thanks for a memorable stay!

The Refuge provides that rustic feel, but with all the modern amenities that made our stay truly comfortable and enjoyable! It's a large, spacious home with cozy nooks and corners that entice you to spread throughout the house, perhaps to curl up and read a book from the impressive library, or choose from the offering of puzzles and games! But we also relished our time together as a multigenerational family of 8 adults -- cooking and eating around the large kitchen table, as well as gathering around the stone fireplace in the living room. Additionally, we thoroughly enjoyed the grounds around the house--beautifully and naturally landscaped with small evergreens and wildflowers, and laced with paths that meandered throughout the property. We had a gorgeous night of stargazing through our telescope set up on the shorefront of the property. Many thanks to our hosts for providing the perfect place to stay in Door County!

Loved the location on a dead end yet 10ish minutes from Sister Bay. Had a great lake front area just a short walk away. Very spacious cabin for the 7 of us. Only recommendation is to have a key coded door.

This cabin is an absolute joy to stay at. This is our second summer using it for a weeklong family vacation and it is the perfect place for cousins to play, siblings to catch up and everyone to enjoy all that Door County has to offer. We love the short walk to the rocky waterfront to throw stones in the water (fun for ages 2-72!) and the kids love the "secret" paths through the woods and to the stick teepee. The house is comfortable and great for large families. The new owners are super friendly and communicative and have made some small, nice changes - there is now a crib and a pack n play and the dishwasher is a newer Bosch model. We love the location and the comfort of this cabin!

The Refuge was our multi-generation family home for a week of vacation in Door County. We enjoyed the space and the way it was laid out, the comfortable furniture and the lovely location of the cabin. The cabin, itself, was set up with everything we needed. It was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The mattresses were very comfortable. The screened porch was perfect. And, if that weren't enough, the log cabin was beautiful. We loved our week there. When we weren't at the cabin, we were taking advantage of being at the lake frontage our hosts own, within walking distance of the house. It turned out to be a real plus with this rental property. Special thanks to our hosts for providing accurate information on their property, suggestions for fun things to do and being available when we had questions.

This was our second stay at this cabin under new management. It was just as wonderful as our first stay! The woods surrounding the cabin is peaceful, the trails were great for our children to trek through, and the fire pit was the perfect end to a busy (or not so busy) Door County day. The kitchen had everything we need. You will be amazed at how much the owners have thought of when stocking the place. The beds were comfortable. Some of us spent entire days relaxing and reading in the beautiful screen porch. The only sweet part to leaving was knowing we'll be back next year. Thank you for such a perfect place to spend a week in the woods. There is no place we've stayed that is quite like this one. A gem.

My in-laws and I stayed at the Refuge as a vacation in honor of her retirement. The location was great to explore everything door county has to offer! My kids (3 mo. And 2) had a wonderful time in the cabin that was stocked with kids toys and games.

We were so happy with everything about our stay. Unfortunately the weather was dismal otherwise we would have spent more time by the water. But the fire pit area right outside the front door was perfect. And I personally LOVED the rocking chairs on the porch!! The house was so spacious and there were a lot of amenities. We will definitely be back!

Great location, in the woods , very short walk to the water for a beautiful view. 8 minutes to sister bay. And the host was so easy and helpful. Definitely would recommend!

We enjoyed how large the space was, it was bigger than we anticipated. The furniture looked a bit old/rundown but was very comfortable. The location was awesome - 10 minutes from downtown Sister Bay, but in a quiet wooded area. We spent one morning over on the rocky "beach" which was a quick walk down the street, across the road, and through a small patch of woods. The kids enjoyed throwing stones in the water and we saw 4 pelicans fly by! The dishwasher was broken when we arrived, but the owners quickly responded to my inquiry and gave me a partial refund. The only things I wish were different about the property were that the four bunk beds were in an open space with no door. My kids slept there but we had to be quiet in the main space so that we didn't wake them. Also, the twin bed I slept on was incredibly creaky! Every time I turned over it screamed at me. Same with my husband's twin bed. But the rest of our family did not have any problems with their beds. Overall we would definitely stay there again. It was a good value for the price and we had a lovely long weekend at the house.
