This was horrible. I have never had a worse stay in Chicago. Let’s start with objective facts: the bathroom sink handles were broken, the urinal handle was broken, the bedroom doors did not close properly, the doorknob was very loose. The entire building had very harsh chemical smells, and the towels smelled so strongly of chemicals that we could not use them. I would guess that this building as a whole is not even close to being up to code. The floor is horribly uneaten, doors don’t close, outlets falling out of the walls, etc. On top of that, the staff was really nasty during check-in and check-out. One of the greatest cities in the world does not deserve to have such an awful place. There are other hostels in the city that are both cheaper and at a higher quality. Very disappointed with this stay. Certainly takes the prize as worst yet.

As good as it was going to get in downtown Chicago area.
Typically see European eccentric holiday goes galavanting the Western Hemisphere.

Great place overall

Super convenient but lacked some comforts. It was HOT in our room, roughly 85 degrees outside, same in the inside. Be sure to bring a fan! And ear plugs! Noise from the street lasts all night. Overall we’d stay again but need some extra supplies 😂

Bed mattresses and pillows could use an update. They’re too hard and pillows are flat. Showers are nice and place has been kept up-to-date well. Towels are extra. Recommend using earplugs if you don’t want to be disturbed by outdoor noises.

Friendly service. Good location. A bit pricey for a private room but acceptable. I would consider staying there again.

The staff was very friendly and helpful! I wish they had rooms with private bathrooms.

Greatly appreciated that they let us check in at 4sm after our train was very late.
Took a very very long time to get hot water in the shower.
Common area was a mess

It's so accessible if you want to enjoy Chicago, and comfortable

Will be a nice place when the renovations are complete.
But don't let that stop you visiting right away. Just pardon some of the construction.
Easy to get to from the metro.
In the middle of Greektown, so if you like that setting, you have a choice of lots of good food places. Big grocery store about 5 minutes walk for thos self-catering

The location of this was amazing for my significant other and I, we got to go to different places where we would like to and it's located in a pretty public area as well as walkable to a lot of bus stops and other transportations.
The hotel itself was very clean from what it seemed like it was cleaned every morning, though the room i was in the lock looked a little odd though they were remodeling so i would assume the lock would be fixed, only one lock seemed a little weird luckily the top one was much better.
The staff were very friendly and would let us know they can help with anything like towels or sheets as well. Would come here again!

I love this hostel. Easy access to CTA Blue line serving O’Hare and Downtown, and plenty of good food nearby! I had a busy itinerary, but never have issues getting around and enjoying Chicago. Room is super clean. Facilities are in good condition. Tip: bring a pad lock for the locker

First off, Lilly the daytime manager, was superb. Excellent management style, authority of the location, building, expectations and so on. Super-accommodating (where allowable). Top notch. Josh, the overall hotel manager (I think) was awesome in his own way too. The building itself is charming, 3 story walk-up, an absolutely lived-in, historic edifice sandwiched between two much newer, taller buildings on S. Halsted. A variety of room layouts are on each of the three floors with a communal lounge/dining area on the 1st floor. If you can't physically walk up stairs with your luggage, this ain't the place for you. But if you're that physically compromised, why are you looking at this type of place anyway? As far as nits, well, the floors are a bit noisy if the hotel is close to full occupancy. Fact of life with narrow halls and close adjoining rooms. And some people are frigging jerks by continually slamming their doors. Just a-holes. One big thing - the Parthenon needs to invest in new pillows for the beds. The pillows were as thick as a sheet of paper, providing zero neck support. Aside from that, this is a GREAT place to stay for a long weekend. Location, location, location. Two blocks north of the Blue line from O'Hare; 13 blocks (easily walkable) blocks from Grant Park/the Loop/Lake Michigan/Michigan Ave. The neighborhood surrounding the Parthenon, Greektown, is awesome.

The property is exactly what a hostel should be. We stayed in a twin room and it was very nice. Beds were comfortable, rooms temperature was good, and the room was very quiet. The only issue I have is that the bathrooms could have been a little cleaner. I know they get a lot of use but the condition was the only subpar thing about this place. Again, you aren't spending a whole lot of time in there so its not a huge deal. Other than that the water was hot, the common area was really clean and nice, and the area is very walkable. Highly recommend a stay here to save money and enjoy the city.

Made a reservation the night before; never got a room, so I had to stay somewhere else

I stayed in a private room with a queen bed and it was amazing. The window by the bed opened up and looked out into this incredible courtyard where they had strung up manikins on a cable to look like they were flying

Great price for a central hostel. You can take the Blue line to downtown or walk. The Hostel is narrow but good enough for a few nights

Everything was great. I'd definitely consider staying here again if I'm ever in the Chicago area again. Everyone was helpful and friendly. My only complaint would be about the slow Wi-Fi.

The men working reception were unfortunately very apathetic ignoring a very long line while they socialized. There were not enough electrical outlets in the room to accommodate all guests. Morning Coffee and tea was not really provided though it was advertised (bags of coffee and tea were on a table however there was no water or sink).
Worst hostel ever.

Very noisy. Not so much the festival going on outside or the other people in the room. It was the thumping 'music' from the adjacent bar/club under the first floor of the hostel that shook the room and made it impossible to sleep. Old building and facilities but reasonably clean. Close to walk to Union Station.

Stayed in the 6 bed female dorm and loved it. Location was convient and I was able to walk everywhere or get the bus/train. Close to train from Airport which was nice. The staff were kind and helpful, I was able to leave my luggage with them while I explored before leaving. I really enjoyed the dorm as it was social which is ideal when travelling solo. Had lockers in the room so I felt like I could leave my belongings without worrying about them. Would recommend to anyone and hopefully one day I can return! Thanks!

Staff was accessible, and the location made the stay very convenient and comfortable. No criticisms come to mind from this first-time stay. This will definitely be my top choice for future visits to Chicago.

I stayed on the third floor. The accommodations were very clean and the single private room was comfortable. The shared woman's bathroom was clean and semi-private. The staff was friendly and helpful. (If you have trouble with multiple flights of stairs, request the first floor.)

I had a good experience with Parthenon Hostel. Its my first time going to Chicago and traveling solo and i can say that its a good place to stay with.it is also my first time staying in a dorm type hotel. Location is good and easy to find with specially if your coming directly from O’Hare airport. The place needs a lil bit of upgrade. The staffs are friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this for someone whos out most of the time and just looking for a place to sleep.

Over all clean was not as the same as pictures in the web. Men bathroom was dirty. Tile and walls needed to be replace and painted. Not good at all.

The bathroom stalls didn't lock and the men's bathroom had a plastic cover as a door but honestly, felt pretty safe still lol

Be ready for super tiny rooms with barely any air circulation. The beds are very solid so if you have a bad back consider somewhere else with nicer mattresses. 2nd floor bathrooms have no locks, stalls are also very tiny and have broken locks which was concerning. There isn’t an elevator which is fine cuz I didn’t pack heavily but my friend had a few more pounds of luggage which we were fighting for our lives to get up the stairs. Check in was fine. They let you park your bags in the back room if you get there too early. The place just needs updates and locks on the bathroom doors. The location is pretty good. Not too far away from buses or metra. Right across from H mart (highly recommend for semi cheap food like japchae and onigiri). Cute (but expensive) bakery right next door.
Over all, an ok stay for the price and the convenience for people who are young or in a time crunch.
