The short version is the quality of food eating out is good for the money they want. Kure Beach is a better package deal.

Shell seeker is lovely, but an older property. The kitchen and the area for eating and socializing was rather small so we all went over to our other house nearby to socialize.

First let me say we love BHI! Our family has been coming to the island since the late 80's and we always find something new to explore and enjoy. I really hate writing bad reviews, so I'll start with the positives. The house is a nice size for a large family. The bedrooms are adequate size and there are several large porches to gather as well as a standard size living room that seats about 7 so you can watch a movie or just relax. There is a separate boathouse that has 2 queen size beds and a full bathroom. My husband and I stayed there and were able to enjoy privacy while spending time with our kids and their families. Also, it's noteworthy to say the boathouse was nice and clean, I highly recommend whoever is booking this house call dibs to this space! Now for the not so great, but very fixable items. First and foremost, the main house needs a deep cleaning. There were dirty pots and pans and dish towels in the kitchen, actual food left on the outside grill (thank goodness the guys had grill duty). The porches which were a main living area had a thick layer of organic dirt on them, almost as if they were just dragged in from being outside for the winter and never cleaned off. The last and maybe most concerning housekeeping item were the 2 razor blades I found in the house. Not sure if the housecleaners were scraping windows or something, but this could have been a bad situation if one of my grandkids found them first. I'm going to stop there, you get the picture. Both golf carts had issues, one had batteries that didn't keep a charge and died on us over a mile from the house after being in use for about an hour. We didn't let this discourage us, we all got out and took turns pushing us home. When I called to notify the property manager, they told me the batteries were just replaced and we must not have charged it properly. We checked the batteries and they were old so after my second call, they sent a crew out to service the cart, they actually replaced the batteries this time and it worked great for the rest of the trip. The second cart had a similar issue with it losing charge, but this one also had a broken turn signal (first time I've seen a turn signal on a golf cart) that had an exposed wire causing a short. After I got a good shock, we called and had to have this cart picked up and serviced as well. We were told to rent a cart and they would reimburse us so we did. I really appreciated the PM taking this step to help out.

Great house, centrally located, all the amenities we needed. There were some, um, palmetto bugs, but that's what happens on BHI!
