Great location, unique hotel with friendly staff.

First room the light over the vanity kept going on and off by itself. The a/c would not cool the room off. We told the office the next morning and was told they’d check it out. We came back later that night and the a/c was no better, so we had a hot night. The next morning we again go to the office, was told the owner would check it when he came back. We checked in upon our return and was told there was a cancellation, so they moved us to the room next door. The a/c was like heaven, but the vanity light wouldn’t work. The next morning we let them know, which they did fix.
We were told that the current owner recently purchased the property 3 months ago, and the plan is that they will be closing for the season and remodeling the inn over the winter. I can cut them some slack for that reason, but having to bag ur own trash and place your dirty linens outside the door on a chair, and they would replace them. Our room was not cleaned or beds made the whole time we were there.
I would hope that these issues are corrected by next season.

This review is for Room 124, which is separate from the rest of the motel, to the left of and on the backside of the office. It has its own driveway, and entrance, with a nice winding brick sidewalk and steps, flanked with palm leaves (I think they were palms), and 2 chairs on the porch. It is a large single room, with a closet (metal clothing bar with hangers, iron/ironing board) and bathroom (vanity sink with ample storage, lighted mirror, hair dryer, toilet, roomy shower stall). The A/C worked well. There is a desk with 2 chairs, mini-fridge, microwave oven, jacuzzi surrounded by mirrored panels (being the unsophisticated guy that I am, I couldn't figure out how to operate), a fairly large flat-screen TV housed in a cabinet (with drawers), 2 end-tables (with drawers) topped with lamps, and a king-size bed. Yes, it is dated; yes, there are some dents, cracks, and scratches; but it was very clean and smelled nice. The room has a good feel, and it was quiet. It is located on the main drag, leading to the bridge off the island, and going to Assateague Island, where the beach is. It is also close to the downtown area, where the shops are. It is next door to the coffee shop, and as soon as I stepped out of the front door, I could small coffee. The motel gives you free vouchers to get a free coffee/danish. I've stayed in quite a few motels, in the past 30 years, and this particular room was the best overall experience I've ever had.

Check in was fine and staff pleasant. Parking to our room was limited and inconvenient. The room looked pleasant enough upon entering. This place is older and there was a note stating it has new owners and under renovation. So that explained some of the imperfections found in the room. However, the bathroom tub was filthy and could not have been cleaned prior to our stay. The tub faucet dripped and could not be shut off. There were long dark hairs on the floor and soap residue at the sink where a bar of soap previously would have sat. The dust ruffle on the bed showed a yellow unappealing stain. When my husband told a worker about the dirty tub she just shrugged her shoulders.

This was a well located, inexpensive motel but the room was definitely grim. Dated, grungy, smelled like urine and overpoweringly of something strong trying to cover the other smells. But the staff were lovely and the grounds were nice. It was an affordable way to spend the night in Chincoteague.

New ownership has improved the vibe in this older, no-frills property. I have stayed here previously and was pleasantly surprised to find it fresher, brighter and cleaner, and I was told future enhancements are planned. The staff and owner are friendly and helpful. Location is great, on one of the main roads on the island.

This property changed ownership and we could see he was working on improvements. We had stayed in this same property last summer and the staff was not as friendly as the new owner and it was pretty rowdy at the pool area. This year it was much quieter and the pool area was clean and the people using the pool were much nicer. I overheard a conversation between a guest and the owner, apparently there had been an issue with their room and the guest was thanking the new owner for addressing and correcting the problem. The location of this hotel for walking to restaurants, mini golf and ice cream is great.

This was a completely horrible experience all around! I booked the king suite for myself, and my two young daughters for our once a year vacation only to arrive to a disaster! The paint is cracking and coming off the walls, there was a piece of metal protruding from the edge of the king sized bed, there was mold/mildew in and around the tub, on the floor around, and in the shower, the bathtub had a continue trickle of water leaking from it leaving the side of the tub slimy, the toilet paper fixtures were rusted and not working (the toilet paper immediately fell onto the floor when attempted to use). I went to the front office with my complaints about the condition and cleanliness of the room and was offered a smaller, two double bed room. I was willing to accept the smaller room because I was assured that the condition and cleanliness of the bathroom was not the norm. The second room was just as bad but for new reasons! The room had a terrible smell as soon as you walked in, it was infested with flies, the air conditioner blew air but never got cold, the tv did not work, and the telephone did not work so I couldn’t even call the office to ask for help. When I went to the office to ask to cancel the remainder of our stay he was unapologetic and told me I was out of luck because I’d already checked in. The property manager denied my claims despite photos & videos and has REFUSED to even refund the second 2 nights despite us having stayed only 2 hours of our 3 night reservation

AC did not work, the floor in the room felt damp and sticky, carpet was disgusting. Ice maker was not working.

For the price it was a very poor motel. Worn down, dirty, only one towel, the ice machine was broken, the air conditioner was very loud. Office time was from 8 am but no one was there 8.10. We will never come back.

My 8 year old son and I were at this property the rate for the night was excellent. I forgot to check no smoking room, you could smell it as soon as you open the door. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Our receptionist was very pleasant but before even entering our room she quickly became apologetic about the age and wear & tear of the property. She explained that the property was recently sold by an elderly gentleman who had not made updates in many years. When we entered the room it was very dated. We found the bed sheets to be stained and hair on the sheets in both beds. There was also a very old undersized air conditioner with a note on it stating to not put the temp setting below 68 or it would freeze and shut down. The tv remote provided to us also did not work. We arrived very late so we dealt with it to get through the night. Would definitely not re commend

Nice place to stay for a great price. Friendly staff, clean pool. The free coffee and pastry next door at Amarin was fantastic. This was our second stay at ABV, and I’m sure we’ll be back!!

The location is good but the hotel needs some serious renovation.

The room is dirty and run down. It smells of mold. There are cracks in the wall and the floor. The bottom of the tub is gray. The air conditioner sounds like it is dying. The lamp does not work. The refrigerator stopped working. No staff on the property after check-in. Nobody available by telephone.

We truly enjoyed our weekend getaway in Chincoteague. When we checked in everyone was lovely. They were very upfront about any issues we may have with the utilities in our room which we really appreciated. However, we were unable to get the TV sound to work properly- as we were never really in our room- we didn’t ask for help as it was such a minuscule thing to worry about. We also did not use the Net Tub that we had with our room as I was concerned about the cleanliness of the tub. It could honestly just have been that it was in need of some updating- but I didn’t want to take the chance. One of our other smaller things that we had was that we couldn’t turn the AC below a certain point. Our biggest concern with our room was the fact that when we opened the door, we were met with a lot of flies. So many that we had to go out and buy a spray that would kill them. We didn’t want to bother the staff because how would they have taken care of it? Overall my fiancé and I would stay again- but maybe only after some updates had been made to the room to ensure no more bugs and a properly sealed jetted tub. Other than those concerns- everyone was truly truly lovely and kind.

To be fair this motel is scheduled for a teardown remodeling in December. Unfortunately I can only review the room we got. I would have to guess that they have decided to wait until then to do any upkeep on the room. The staff (the only gentleman I know of) was friendly and helpful . I really can't emphasize enough how old and degrade the conditions were. If my wife wasn't such a good sport I'd probably be single now. Wait until next year or take your chances.

Prior to arrival, I called to confirm my reservation. They were charging me $50 more per night, but that got resolved. My room did not get cleaned, nor were the beds remade, and we didn’t have clean towels.

Great old time Motel. Lovely friendly staff and my kids say cozy.
Clean if not a bit run down but charming. We will be back when in the area.

Upon arrival was asked to pay an additional $14 “tax.” Otherwise room condition is about what you would expect for the price; tape on AC and on bathroom door to keep it together. A little musty smell. Good location and good breakfast included with Amarin coffee house next door.

The new owner is a veteran, and he was so nice to talk with. He was helpful, and just seems like a genuinely good person. We stayed here a few times over the years, so it's great to see that repairs are starting. The housekeeping was not so great. Sometimes we got clean towels.
The free breakfast at Amarin's was always delicious. Best pastries I've had
Great value hotel

It was perfectly placed for me to get on my bike and bike everywhere. I was told at checkin that renovations are planned so peoperty conditions are not great but the bed and linens were perfect. Staff was great.

The staff was great, check in and out was easy but they really need to fix a lot of things. Our rooms window was broken and the latches were completely broken so they just used packing tape to hold the window in which wasn’t holding. I requested new tape which they brought quickly but after the guy left I went to close the curtains and the whole rod fell down so I ended up rigging it to work for the night and advised them at checkout.

Wasn’t bad for the price. Had a friendly cat outside to.

Never experienced a hotel in a worst condition. Mold in bathroom and window sills, pieces of the wall falling apart, carpet dirty and buckling. This is just name a few. Checked in and paid and then once we saw the room we left immediately after speaking to the attendant, which did not offer a dime of reimbursement. This property needs to be TOTALLY remodeled or knocked down before anyone should stay here. I have quite a few pictures of just how bad the condition of the room was that we were assigned.

Do NOT stay here, if you can help it.
Positives: The staff is exceptionally nice and ready to help. The staff makes this sad motel tolerable.
The glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling are fun. But are they a brilliant way to hid dirty spots?
Negatives: Where to begin?
First, I got a skin infection from the linens, I am now on a regimen of antifungals to treat the rash that is all over my body after staying at this motel.
The walls and the ceiling are covered in suspicious smudges. Some look brown and downright nasty.
The trimmings are all peeling off.
The light is so dim, even with all the lights turned on, that you will not be able to read for long in the room as your eyes will tire out.
There is no air circulation in the room, and even with the AC running and the fan on in the bathroom, your thin and overworked towels are always a touch moist.
The carpeting is dirty, so pack your house slippers. Do not walk around barefoot, not if you care about your health.
In off season, there is no breakfast.
The smell in the room is that of many guests that stayed and the linens, bed covers, towels, and carpets were never properly cleaned.

Room floor was so warped that the suitcases rolled on their own. The shower didn't work...at all....water dripped slowly from the "hot water" handle, but not eh shower itself. The bedsprings are starting to go, and they were loud when you rolled over. The bathroom was not clean, with stains and cobwebs.

The location makes it convenient if you want to walk or drive to anywhere downtown
