Its stone-facing houses, clustered in a spiral around the Saint-Nazaire church, give it the appearance of a snail's shell—an original architecture steeped in history and poetry.

Never subject to any feudal lordship, Sablet depended directly on the Papacy, which explains the absence of a castle. However, since the 14th century, the village has protected itself behind a fortified wall, the remains of which tell of centuries of resistance. Stroll through its narrow streets in search of the "soustets," these passages under the houses with their stone or plasterwork patinated by time, and admire the architectural details of each facade. A few dates engraved above the doors will remind you of the village's antiquity!

The shaded "Place Yvan Audouard," adorned with a fountain and a washhouse, pays tribute to this journalist and writer, a fervent lover of Sablet. Every July, the village vibrates to the rhythm of the Book Days, hosting dozens of authors: conferences, exhibitions, and outdoor book signings invite discovery and dialogue. And for lovers of unusual stories: the writer Jean Raspail established the imaginary consulate of Patagonia there, proclaiming himself "consul" of this fanciful kingdom—a fantasy that adds a touch of humor to local history.
