There were significant issues with the unit from burnt out or non functioning lights to a hot water tap in the bathroom that couldn’t be turned on to kitchen cabinets that were so stuck we thought they were locked. The balconies couldn’t be used because there was no seating. The local agent was friendly but slow to respond. The building itself is lovely, the pool wonderful and the location is great (quiet but easy walk to restaurants, etc.) but the unit needs some serious TLC

I very much enjoyed the quietness of the building. The courtyard is well away from the street. No hassles with checking in and out. Condo was in excellent shape. There's a security door manned 24 hours.

This was a great spot for two that did not really cook, and spent limited time in the condo. Spacious, clean, and comfortable. Information about check-in/ check-out was a bit limited, could have used a secondary roll of toilet paper, coffee filters, kitchen towels, etc., but otherwise was suitable. Location is great, quiet (minus a few rowdy guests in the complex), and front gate guards are wonderful. Would stay again for our next family visit—thank you!

We were in Cartagena for our wedding and stayed at this property after we checked out of our hotel. The apartment is very nice, clean, and in a great location. However, the security is completely out of hand/over the top compared to the hotels we stayed at and visited. We were not informed in advanced that we would need to send the property manager a list of everyone that would visit us ahead of time including passport photo etc. you can imagine with a wedding (friends and family in town) that this would be a logistical nightmare. ^^ As a result we spent far too much time waiting for security to go through three layers of approval just to authorize visitors. We ended up just telling people to not even stop by because it wasn't worth the hassle and security was completely unorganized. My husband left the room key for me at the front desk one night and they screened me again as if I was a complete stranger (I'm 6 months pregnant by the way and just wanted to go to my room and rest). They even asked me if I was my mom or sister (who were visitors) and fumbled around for 15-20 minutes before getting me the key.

The apt was large, clean and comfortable. The building was safe and located right by the wall overlooking the ocean. Use of the pool, gym, and steam room were wonderful perks. Will definitely try to reserve on my next trip to Cartagena.

This property was wonderful. Just a 2 minute walk from the main sights of Cartegena. But in very quiet at night. Very clean, comfortable and secure. Great host that accommodated our early morning arrival. Whole family enjoyed the pool. Highly recommended!

The apartment is gorgeous and situated in a quiet part of the Historic Center, yet close to everything. Ideal for a great vacation to Cartagena. The owner is responsible and responsive and arranging the details with him was easy. I highly recommend this place for your trip to Cartagena!

We've stayed at HomeAway before - it's a viable alternative to hotels. Our apartment at Virrey Esclava was well located in the historical area of Cartagena; it's a modern apartment in what used to be an old building. Here are the things we disliked (things that can easily be remedied): There was no hair dryer, no coffee maker, no samples such as shampoo, coffee, water, no paper towels, no face/bath cloth, no phone connection between our room and the front desk (security), the ice maker in the refrigerator was fiddly and difficult to use, etc. There were no instructions - who to contact in an emergency, where to eat, what to see, mini markets nearby, etc., etc. All other places provided such basics; if the owners decide not to do so, at least we should be forewarned in order to bring our own supplies. Oh, and there was no maid service - a first; plus, no garbage bags or pickup - another first. One night there was a loud band (wedding) playing until after midnight; another night, nearby neighbors were talking loudly until midnight. Then, because of high winds, our awning came apart and was flapping loudly against our window and side of the building. On the plus side, the A/C worked well, the bed was large and comfortable, the washer and dryer worked well.

Very nice upscale place in a very good location in old town. close to everything yet quiete. Pool, terrace and gym were all nice bonuses. At first I was worried about the unusual payment method by bank transfer and then paying cash deposit on site but all went without a hitch and got full deposit back at checkout. Highly recommended.

We read the reviews from previous guest and they helped us in our selection of this location. The location was great the A/C was great. The owner is very responsive to questions and his on site person was ready to meet us there when we arrived. Someone complained about a broken refig. but they must have replaced it because there was brand new one in the apt. My only suggestion which I told the on site person about would be to possibly buy some plastic ice cube trays for the refig. As there were none in there. This was no big deal as we bought a bag of ice. Just an fyi if you can't get the remote control to turn off the A/C in bedroom just hold the remote closer to the unit. I think the batteries may have been weak. But the A/C is soooooooooo Great. We used the pool and the gym and the roof top deck. The front desk personnel were very friendly and nice. This place is 100% worth the price. The only reason it did not earn five stars is because the refrigerator was not working. Additionally, the items around the house are a bit dated such as the sheets. The addition of new sheets and comforters would go along way in this property. Nevertheless, this was well worth it and I would highly recommend to anyone else going.

The apartment was beautiful and everything worked great (AC is specially needed as Cartagena can be hot). Old town is realy beatiful and it was very easy to walk to from apartment, so I enjoyed first two days exploring it. The third day I tried to go to a beach close by (Baru) for a day trip but things didn't work out very well with the taxi driver and all the people soliciting. Unfortunatly that was the lowlight of the trip. If you plan to visit islands or beaches around just be careful with the arrangements.

This apartment was perfect! It was in the walled town and we walked everywhere. We never had to take a taxi anywhere. At sunset, we just had to walk less than half a block to sit on the wall and watch the sunset. If you go, bring your own bath soap, kitchen soap and laundry soap, as those are not provided.

Pros: The apartment itself was very spacious and very clean. It has a washer and dryer that came very handy to us. The two A/C’s are very powerful and it cool off the entire apartment very quickly. The apartment complex is very secure with a security guard 24/7. The location is ideal as it is very close to everything in the historic sector. We didn’t use the amenities (Gym, Pool) but they seemed very well maintained. Two supermarkets within walking distance. Very quiet area compared to the rest of the historic area. Cons: There was some confusion when we arrived as the security guard didn’t know we were staying in the apartment. We had to wait about 20 minutes for him to find someone that knew we were arriving. Other than this, there was nothing wrong with our stay. Conclusion: I definitely recommend this apartment if you are planning to visit Cartagena. If we return, we will definitely stay here again.

Just had a wonderful stay at this property in the old town, which was very comfortable and had everything we needed and more, wifi. The property was very clean,and well maintained. Very spacious and nice decorated. The condo was very spacious with lovely areas to sit and eat or just to just chill. Also the pool was amazing,we loved it! The surrounding area is very beautiful, lots of gorgeous flowers. The owners were very helpful answering my queries before we went and during our stay. The villa is in a very peaceful and relaxing location. All in all a fabulously relaxing holiday.

We enjoyed this beautiful apartment for a few days last holidays, very practical, totally equipped, well decorated and new, has one spacious bedrooms with comfortable bathroom, sleeps 4 persons, spacious social areas with integrated open kitchen. Very conveniently situated in the walled city area, has plenty of restaurants. This closed community has ammenities such as a equipped gym, social and rest areas and an exquisite pool surrounded by sun bathing areas. The owner and the manager were at hand permanently in case of necessity or doubt and ready to please some of our special needs during our vacation. Me and my family (3 persons from 22 to 58 years old) agree that we are going to rent it again soon: all expectation about this place were over satisfied.

This is a well-maintained, high-end vacation home with deluxe amenities that will surprise and delight all visitors. All kitchen amenities, fixtures, furniture, and techologies are in excellent condition and top quality - you will not be disappointed. The pool area is the jewel of the property and you'll find yourself spending most of your time here. The property manager is very helpful and readily available. It's clear she is working with the owner to continuously improve the property and keep it in good form. One week was simply not enough. Hope to see you soon again !!!

Working with Galindo was pretty simple. Communication was very good and the person on site to get us into the property was very accessible and accommodating. The property was new, well cared for, clean and overall a great place to stay. Staying in the old city gave us walking access to everything. This is not a complaint about the property, but rather a caution ... get a map of the old city and KNOW where you are staying. The streets can be a little confusing. When in doubt, hop in a taxi. The unit is everything that was advertised. Amazing views to wake up to overlooking the pool.The owneri was great during the booking process and always responsive to answer any questions. Virrey Eslava Apartment is first class - better than expected. The service is top notch, restaurants and nightlife in Cartagena is amazing. Would definitely return!

We were so pleasantly surprised with this rental. It is within the walled city, steps from the wall and the view of the ocean. The rental was very clean and well supplied with towels and linens. (The only negative is there are few pots and pans. Our friends needed to bring their own in order to cook a true Colombian meal for us.) We overlooked the pool which was perfect for laps and the deck was a great spot for yoga. The condo is within walking distance to 2 grocery stores and several very good restaurants. Irene, our contact person, was very easy to work with. She was very prompt with meeting us at the condo for both our arrival and departure. She was easy to reach via Whatsapp and responded within 15 minutes to a message I sent about not having hot water. No sooner did she respond to my message than a service person turned on the hot water heater. The people who worked on the grounds and the guards were very friendly. A security guard is at the entrance 24/7. I felt very safe at the condo and within the walled city. I would return here without a second thought

Esta es una propiedad fantástica. La ubicación es perfecta y el complejo de condominios es genial. Es ultra moderno con un toque colonial, si logran fundir esas dos ideas. Al entrar al complejo uno siente que entra a la vieja Cartagena, da la impresión de viajar en el tiempo. Luego examinas cada servicio, y hallas más de los que ofrece un hotel moderno. La cocina es hermosa, el baño es ultra moderno; tanto el dormitorio como el living tienen balcones que dan al patio. Hay una piscina de buen tamaño, gimnasio y área social. ¡LIMPIO! Tengo una cierta manía por la limpieza y este condominio resultó ser perfecto. Dicho todo esto, tengo que mencionar que el dueño tiene una paciencia de santo. Tuvieron muchas dificultades para ubicarme y no respondí a tiempo: el dueño fue muy amable y me dio alojamiento.

Este es nuestro segundo viaje a la encantadora Cartagena. La última vez nos hospedamos fuera de la ciudad amurallada, tomando taxis de aquí para allá. Esta vez paramos dentro de la ciudad amurallada. Cuando llegamos, tuvimos la espera imprevista de nuestra anfitriona Irene. Por suerte, teníamos para entretenernos a nuestra amiga que se hospedó en el apartamento que está dos pisos debajo del nuestro. Estaba estudiando allí y fuimos a visitarla. Finalmente nos comunicamos con Irene, que es una dama encantadora. ¡¡¡Hacía CALOR!!! Hubiera sido genial que nos hubiera esperado con una bebida refrescante, pero... al entrar a nuestra unidad, estaba limpia, fresca y era muy acogedora. Teníamos un lindo espacio, agua caliente, lavarropa y secarropa, lo cual era óptimo. La propiedad era adorable. Se la recomendaría a cualquiera que visite Cartagena. ¡¡¡La pasamos genial!!! En el futuro, podría probar su otra propiedad... Gracias nuevamente.
