This property is a short walk to down town for dinner, which we did nightly. We spent our mornings on the porch eating breakfast, and evenings in the hammock with a cocktail. The bed is on the firmer side, but feel that’s personal preference (I would recommend a gel mattress cover or foam crate). Patti was super attentive and responsive to text. The home had beach chairs and a cooler which we used daily. Would definitely rent again and can’t wait to come back.

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at this lovely Villa very much. The place is VERY spacious with visually-pleasing decor--and it is thoughtfully stocked with so many beach essentials--beach chairs, beach umbrella, a cooler, and even some snorkel gear. The deck out back is huge and a truly wonderful place to hang out and watch the sunset--plus the hammock is absolutely incredible. I spent many hours relaxing and reading while being gently swayed by the breeze. The location is perfect for walking downtown into the town of Cruz Bay, although as noted by other reviewers, just keep in mind (mostly for anyone with mobility issues) that the walk back UP can be a bit challenging on a cardiovascular level. Great exercise though, and the steepest part of the climb doesn't last long. It's a very well-lit and "open concept" space that lets you enjoy the stunning natural surroundings. The pool out back was fabulous, and you may very likely have it all to yourself (other than us, I only saw one other couple use it the whole time we were there). The host and property manager are friendly and very easy to deal with--both are very responsive to any questions you may have. If you rent a car, there is a place right out front to park! At this very reasonable price point, I'd recommend this lovely VRBO property to anyone looking to enjoy and explore gorgeous St. John!

We loved the location of this property- even though you have to walk down / up 2 steep hills to get to Cruz Bay, it was still worth it because parking in Cruz is horrendous & a huge waste of time. The little parking there is is for employees of cruz bay and near the boat docks so it saved tons of time being able to walk. The view was amazing & the road it’s on is very quiet compared to many other areas of Cruz Bay. You will hear roosters, frogs, peacocks, crickets in the unit while you’re in bed but bring a portable sound machine and it will help- it is an island after all. The pool felt like we had it to ourselves most all the 5 day we were there. I did not care for the bed at all but it’s personal preference. This condo has a feel of a property that’s “been in the family” for a long time as there are several pieces of old art & family heirlooms laying around / old books etc. I kind of felt like I walked into someone’s actual daily home, not a VRBO property. The place is old but it was decently clean & kept up with- the kitchen needs major work but again, decently clean. All appliances worked fine. The bathroom has no air conditioning but the rest of the unit cooled down nicely. Patio was super spacious and the hammock my husband really enjoyed. The pool is down a stair case to the right of the complex and a 1 min walk. If you’re trying to budget and just need a simple place to stay with a great view & short walk to Cruz Bay, this is a great deal if you rather spend your $$ on nicer meals or shopping. Would consider staying again if the mattress wasn’t so hard, but again, that is subjective opinion. Thanks for a great stay. We loved the large back deck. We would sit out there every morning having breakfast before we started our day. Then again in the evening to relax after returning from hiking and snorkeling. It's an easy walk into Cruz Bay for dinner. We would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic stay! The villa is lovely. Some things to keep in mind are the walks to and from the villa. FOR SURE, it can be a lot! At the same time if you are a walker and are able to navigate on foot it will not be a concern. It is not far from town but the hills are exhausting, even the small ones. Another thought is the open concept of the villa. We enjoyed it very much but if you need to pull the curtain for darkness or wear earplugs for quiet this is not the place for you. The sun rises early and the wildlife are up at the crack of dawn. On the flip side you will hear the tree blowing in the wind and it sure is beautiful! The pool is a wonderful option to the beach. Would stay again!

The property manager, Patti, was very helpful with updated information bout the area, and reminding of pre-visit Covid requirements of the USVI in plenty of time to comply if we had not been aware. She is local, and so was able to help with a minor maintenance issue that arose during our stay. The condo has beach chairs and towels, and an umbrella. We had our morning coffee on the large deck, and then watched the sunset there with a nice glass of wine. There are several shelves of books and games for entertainment, and the TV gets a wide set of stations. Parking is available across the road. Cruz Bay is a short walk away, All in all, we look forward to the chance to return soon for another Caribbean sojurn.

We appreciated the beach towels, cooler and snorkel gear as well as the beach towels. The WiFi worked super well and the property had AC should you want it. Ceiling fans were helpful. We were a bit unsure of the expectations as far as checking out …. stripping the bed, gathering towels, trash etc. ?? We tidied up, cleaned the kitchen and left things as we found them. We also did all the dishes and collected trash and put it in the entry alcove. Hopefully that fulfilled our host’s expectations. The view is great as is the pool. A great value and we highly recommend! Thank you so much, we hope to visit again!!

We had the best experience here! Our hostess was so kind and accommodating and the location was perfect. A little more secluded from Cruz Bay business but still in Cruz Bay. Such a perfect place!

We saw La Mer on our last visit to St. john while walking down the hill to Cruz Bay. It cut the walk in half from where we were so we looked into it. The web site did not do it it’s due. The place is much better. First, it’s roomy. More so than other like priced or similar condos. Two large rooms. A dining area is really not that, Or at least for us it wasn’t Instead it served as a really great place to settle our stuff. Something like an office. We used it and it made things better. When we arrived, it was hot and humid outside. We turned on the two ac units, closed the glass louvers, and the unit cooled off quickly. Very efficient for an older place. So we turned them off during the times we were gone to St. John’s great beaches and back on again when returning. It worked. An old style kitchen was all we needed. Very convenient and very well stocked. The water is from a cistern so not drinkable but there was a Brita water pitcher filled in the fridge and we had some water bottles No problem. The bathroom was updated and the shower open in the islands style. The bathroom windows were open to let in the air and this did not effect the bedroom temperature with its strong AC unit. Doors could be closed and we did sometimes. The deck is very large and a great place to lounge about and look at the boats coming and going to St. John. At first we thought a cat was screaming nearby but discovered it was a peacock who came by regularly. Across from the deck is a grassy area that can be seen by the provided very good binoculars where the peacocks roam. I would have coffee on the deck in the mornings. Mosquitoes joined me when there was no breeze but Off was available in the unit and it kept them at bay. Again, the unit had everything you might need and then some. Noted on the deck is the web has the dining table there covered. It was not when we got there and should never have been. It is a beautiful display of well made mahogany that makes the deck that much more compelling. Also, the deck housed great beach equipment to include some high seated chairs much better for someone who has trouble getting out of those that sit on the sand. Thanks Patti for the shine and care that made it a great place to stay. La Mer is definitely a home away from home that was a terrific respite during our weeks stay in early June, 2021.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay at Villa de Mer. It was a classic and adorable condo with everything we could have needed. We enjoyed watching the stars from the porch hammock every night. The location is perfect for walking into town and the property manager was warm and wonderful. I've visited St. John many times - usually staying in villas or private homes outside of town - and was worried about losing privacy with an in-town stay but couldn't have been happier with our week!
