The hotel is very nice. It is close to the station (about a 5 min walk), although if you come in on the train, there are buses waiting at the West exit. (Didn't need a prior reservation as I forgot to make one) There are 2 onsens which were very nice and were pretty quiet, despite the hotel being full. There are a lot of tour groups (both Japanese and foreign) that stay in the hotel. The breakfast is amazing with lots of options for everyone - Japanese and Western foods. There is a new wing and an old wing. We stayed in the new wing in a room that was very spacious for Japan with 2 Western beds and 2 single futons. Both were very comfy and comfortable for a family. Note, the Western beds are the size of a double.
The hotel is a bit out of the way from the attractions and the main area of town. 5 min walk the opposite direction from train station. The onsen is closed during the middle of the day for public use, so if you are there to spend all day in the onsen, this may be an issue. Also, they do not loan umbrellas, so if there is a chance of rain, either take your own or be prepared to buy one. Do not choose this hotel if you are looking for a view - we had a view of the fans and parking lot, not sure if maybe the other side of the building had a better view.

The onsens and facilities are amazing! Plus the room was nice, we took a Japanese traditional and we were pleasantly surprised. Nice staff, we had a very relaxing stay.
It is a bit far from the city center, but still worth it, we made it work fine!

The two onsens in the hotel are highly recommended. The outdoor onsen is very nice. The hotel is within walking distance from the rail station. The free shuttle bus to and fro the station is definitely a plus. The room is clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly.
Difficult to get a taxi in the hotel and in the town.

Onsen hotel outside of town. We paid extra for a room in the new tower which was great. Onsen was a nice experience. If you don’t mind a walk to town then this hotel is ok.
We had breakfast included and they allocate restaurants. On the first day they sent us to a run down function room in the old hotel. It wasn’t to a high standard. On the second day we were sent to the nice buffet with omlette chef in the new hotel we booked. When we asked after check in if there was a difference we were assured there wasn’t. This was not the truth. If you pay extra for breakfast and the nicer room you shouldn’t be eating in the old function centre.

The breakfast buffet was good and we also appreciated that they had a shuttle to and from JR Takayama station. The onsen was a nice feature.
The tatami room we were staying in was old and quite small for a family of 4 adults. Definitely could use a refresh.

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times. It always exceeds expectations. Within walking distance to restaurants and the traditional tourist centre. Room was amazing. I love this hotel and will be coming back again and again!

The hotel staff was very helpful and even bow when you walk past the staffs. There was 2 microbus per hour from the Takayama station to hotel. (5 minutes). The room (Japanese style room with tatami) was big enough for 2 people stay and very quiet. There was 2 onsens. A big one on the 1st floor and a smaller one in the basement. The breakfast had plenty of food, buffet style and you can choose to have western/Japanese meals.
The only minus was about 10-15 min walk to the station(no microbus from hotel to station at lunch time) but 20-30 min walk to the Old town (main sights). Also there was a unit bath in the room but very small. Most people would use the onsen (hot springs) facility within the hotel, but for foreigners who are not familiar with onsen may want to use the bath in the room.

onsens nice. room large.
Overpriced. Room dated and hotel pretty bland with not a lot of character. paid a bomb and view was of a really ugly flat roof and all the services. no breakfast included which was a bit ordinary given the room cost. save the money for a nice hotel somewhere else.

This is one of those dated but charming hotel that retained their old school charm. My group booked two rooms, one western style and one tatami style.
The onsens were terrific. One of the bath were recently renovated to give it a modern face lift. The other bath was still the old school style onsen but generally still very enjoyable.
Room decor retains the old school wooden style but generally very spacious and comfortable. If you're staying in a tatami room, they will switch your futons out in the morning and evening.
Hotel breakfast is scrumptious and delicious. Highly recommended as Takayama is generally a quiet town in the morning. Shuttle service takes you to the station and the Jinya which is very convenient. Even without the service, the station is just a short 15mins slow luggage pulling walk away.
There is a huge Omiyage shop in the hotel for you to shop for some local/regional souvenirs. You are given some treats your room every day which if you like those, you can buy at this huge shop!
There isn't anything to dislike about this hotel. The hotel staff is awesome even though they speak very minimal English. There's a very nice local Monjayaki restaurant near the hotel which you can check out (near the school).
You are also expected to pay a fee for the onsen facilities (as you should!) If you stay in this hotel.

1. Location was good. 2. Hotel spacious and staff friendly though only a few could speak English. Nevertheless they were helpful and tried their best to please. 3. Free car parking 4. The meals were very good especially the kaiseki dinners which has a different every night. The Hida beef was excellent. For the breakfast, we had a choice of buffet (which is standard and unchanging), the Chinese or Japanese set breakfast. 5. Room size was big and comfortable with excellent room amenities. 6. Onsen is comfortable and clean.
1. My booking was for 4 nights, 17Jan -21Jan 2023. I understand that I could cancel with no penalties 48hours from the date of the booking, i.e. 15 Jan 2023. However my credit card was charged on 11Jan.2023, a full 7 days before my arrival. I was not given a chance to pay by cash at the property. I had no time to deal with it as I was already travelling around in Japan. That is the biggest disappointment. When I queried the Green Hotel on arrival, they said that it was Booking.com that made the charge and NOT THE GREEN HOTEL and they could not reverse it. I was given the impression that I could pay at the property on arrival. This advance charging is not very professional. The guest has the right to choose his form of payment. Only if the guest fails to turn up should the credit card be charged in full. If Booking.com continues with this practice of advance charging, I may have to use other agents in the future.

the Japanese style room was nice and the tatami beds were very comfortable. The Onsens were great, and the water temperatures were just right for me. There is a huge giftshop right next to the hotel and easy for tourists to purchase souvenirs.
Cannot think of anything.
