General Palmer Hotel

Centrally located in downtown Durango.

Elevator instructions were not clearly understood and caused initial discomfort. Maybe written instructions on the inside of the door.

We were riding the Durango Silverton railroad. Thank you General Palmer for building your hotel right by your rail station. Loved the old elevator and the comfortable room.

Decor and condition.

Cold breakfast.

The location is great, I appreciated the history of the place, and the staff is friendly.

The interior room I had (no window) was depressing. I thought I would tolerate it better than I did—but with no lights on it was pitch black. It was unpleasant to spend any time in it during the day. Also, at breakfast, tables did not get cleaned after use (I had to wipe down a tabletop two mornings) and it seemed like carpeted areas needed vacuuming more often. One other thing that really surprised me was streaming services were not available. The front desk told me I would have to use my own Netflix account. Since I did not have the credentials with me, I could only access network TV. I can’t remember the last place I stayed in when streaming services were not available.
